COVID-19 prompted an abundance of independent and collaborative quick response disaster research(QRDR)initiatives *** 2020 federal COVID-19-driven granting opportunities initiated the first official QRDR effort in Canadian history,engaging social scientists to rapidly address the pandemic-related societal *** study aims to portray the landscape of this nascent social science QRDR workforce through the first round of federal COVID-19-specific grant recipients.A case study approach was employed to analyze 337 social science projects with 1119 associated researchers,examining the demographic structure of these COVID-19-driven social science researchers and their research projects'***,the findings are presented through the following two streams:(1)From a researcher perspective,this case study describes researcher typology,geographic location,primary discipline,and educational background,highlighting the diverse characteristics of social sciences researchers,and uneven research development across Canada.(2)From a research project perspective,this case study identifies and synthesizes research project subjects,themes,collaborations,and Canadian distinctions,emphasizing the need for galvanizing cooperation and focusing on uniquely Canadian *** case study illustrates challenges associated with data curation that pose barriers to developing a nuanced understanding of the Canadian social science community COVID-19 research ***,the case study develops three recommendations to improve QRDR development in Canada:promoting information transparency,dissemination,and updates;improving hazards and disaster research workforce evaluation;and enhancing multi-stakeholder cooperation.

Some of the most important problems facing the United States and China, indeed facing our entire planet, require approaches that are fundamentally multidisciplinary in nature. Many of those require skills in computer science （CS）, basic understanding of another discipline, and the ability to apply the skills in one discipline to the problems of another. Modern training in computer science needs to prepare students to work in other disciplines or to work on multidisciplinary problems. What do we do to prepare them for a multidisciplinary world when there are already too many things we want to teach them about computer science？ This paper describes successful examples of multidisciplinary education at the interface between CS and the biological sciences, as well as other examples involving CS and security, CS and sustainability, and CS and the social and economic sciences. It then discusses general principles for multidisciplinary education of computer scientists.

Current humanity is experiencing extraordinary levels of material and ideal *** being constant and stability exceptional and provisional;one has to expect a significant acceleration of change in the next hundred *** core question is therefore:What kind of future is being shaped for the next generations,our grandchildren and great-grand children?Without going too far back in time,it is fair to say that the current world was shaped by two different,successive and antinomic global processes:imperial expansion,colonization and domination on the one hand,and resistance,struggle for liberation,and the search for a more equitable world order on the other *** all the odds,European imperialism,civil war,wars of aggression,and Western ostracism,China was an influential actor in the struggle for liberation of Africa from colonialism,got its rightful place in the international world order and is now the second economy of the *** resulted in the emergence of a de facto multipolar world,with different models of societies and organizational *** are dialectic processes constantly in operation,but there is however a third crucial area of interest,generally taken granted,that of people and *** relations and sustainable economic development backed by greater cultural and demographic connectivity are better options for the construction of a novel future for *** and higher education institutions can play an important role in spearheading and implementing these new orientations for the construction of a future peaceful and sustainable human world in which war will be *** paper outlines what academics can do to promote such a vision.

The Article follows the trail of Max Weber's comprehensive sociology and uses the hermeneutic and iconological analysis methods applied to significant contemporary plastic art works(painting and sculpture)which are representative of modern and late modern *** from these theoretical and methodological bases,it pursues three specific objectives:(a)to analyze the construction of Time in plastic art,(b)to verify how this theme has evolved in artistic practices from the first modernity to the second and(c)to verify the way in which the complementary visual language the conceptual of contemporary sociological *** this regard,our paper provides evidence that the selected works prioritize a kind of temporality determined by the logic of capitalist industrial *** likewise becomes obvious that time—focused on an accelerated and instantaneous omnipresent—lacks both an origin and a telos\it has neither a past nor a future and,in parallel,a gap has opened between the time of natural life and the artificial one,as well as between space and time,which is only transiently bridged at the imaginary level of ***,the experience of time has been emptied,in such a way that the latter has lost some of its solidity and让s sense of permanence,while the contingent,the fleeting and the ephemeral now occupy in its place.

Knowledge regarding how people obtain,understand,and use warning information is critical to saving lives and protecting property,yet scientifically valid and reliable research to support this part of the tropical cyclone(TC)warning process has been *** is due in part to misconceptions about the social sciences and the theories,knowledge and methodologies they *** help fill this gap,we highlight some topics and issues where social science research offers valuable contributions to the TC forecast and warning process,and present findings from some recent TC-related research projects.A range of studies(albeit limited in number)includes social science research on how individuals interpret risk,the importance and impact of delivering clear messages,the communication of uncertainty;and,more specifically,on the TC forecast and warning process,including the effective communicating of storm surge *** also discuss some findings related to promoting appropriate protective actions,and understanding economic and societal *** conclude by identifying some shortcomings in empirical research in this area,and offer recommendations for improved integration of social sciences into the TC forecast and warning process.

Globalization has been accompanied by the critique of Eurocentrism, in the realm of culture as well as learning. There have been calls globally in recent years for the recogmtion of different ways of knowing. This article examines the particular case of the social sciences in China, concentrating mostly on sociology with some commentary on anthropology. It examines three periods when ＂nationalizing＂（ zhong guo hua, 中国化） has been raised as an issue in the social sciences. The article suggests that ＂nationalization＂ should not be confused with ＂indigenization＂（ben tu hua, 本土化）, which suggests an even more concrete localization. It concludes with a suggestion that this issue may be a distraction from more urgent questions of the social and political responsibilities of the social sciences.
