Bibliometric Review of Biodiversity Offsetting During 1992-2019

Biodiversity offsetting plays a crucial role in managing the impacts of development on natural habitats. Developers, conservation groups, governments and financial institutions have used biodiversity offsetting to design measurable conservation actions to compensate for significant residual adverse biodiversity impacts arising from development. However, the concepts and methodologies of biodiversity offsetting have rarely been systematically reviewed, and best practices are still lacking. This hinders the development and applications of this field, and makes it difficult for new researchers to learn, develop, and apply biodiversity offsetting. This paper aims to review research progress on biodiversity offsetting during the period of 1992 to 2019. We mainly used bibliometric analysis and social network analysis methods to expose the topic diversity, development and promotion of this research field, and assess collaboration among biodiversity offsetting scholars. Our research identified 1190 records, and revealed that the total number of publications increased rapidly since 2002. The most productive journal, country, and author were Biological Conservation, USA, and Dr. Maron M of University of Queensland, respectively. Co-author analysis identified that the 23 authors most relevant to biodiversity offsetting were involved in a collaboration network. And they were mainly from 30 countries in a collaboration network, and the authors from USA, Australia and the United Kingdom have the most cooperation, which mainly driven by policy related to biodiversity offsetting. Our review shows that biodiversity offsetting research is at an early stage of rapid development with topically diverse and collaborative science domains. The majority of studies focus on terrestrial environments, which makes the implementation of aquatic ecosystem is more difficult. Theoretical problems and the implications of research evolution and social network in biodiversity offsetting are discussed,

Research on E-mail Communication network Evolution Model Based on User Information Propagation

E-mail communication network evolution model based on user information propagation is studied. First, mathematical representation of weighted e-mail communication network is proposed, and network center parameters of Enron dataset and the distribution of node degree and strength are analyzed. Then, some rules of e-mail communication network evolution are found. Second, the model of e-mail information propagation is described, and e-mail communication network evolution model based on user information propagation is proposed. Lastly, the simulation proves the correctness of the distribution characteristic of degree and strength of the model proposed and then verifies that the model proposed is closer to the real situation of e-mail communication network through parameter comparison. This research provides the basis for other researches on social network evolution and data communication.

Increasing our understanding of primate gestural communication can provide new insights into language evolution.A key question in primate communication is the association between the social relationships of primates and their repertoire of *** analyses can reveal how primates use their repertoire of gestural communication to maintain their networks of family and friends,much as humans use language to maintain their social *** this study we examined the association between the repertoire of gestures(overall,manual and bodily gestures,and gestures of different modalities)and social bonds(presence of reciprocated grooming),coordinated behaviors(travel,resting,co-feeding),and the complexity of ecology(***,illumination)and sociality(party size,audience),in wild East African chimpanzees(Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii).A larger repertoire size of manual,visual gestures was associated with the presence of a relationship based on reciprocated grooming and increases in social complexity.A smaller repertoire of manual tactile gestures occurred when the relationship was based on reciprocated grooming.A smaller repertoire of bodily gestures occurred between partners who jointly traveled for *** gesture repertoire size was associated with social complexity,complex ecology also influenced repertoire *** evolution of a large repertoire of manual,visual gestures may have been a key factor that enabled larger social groups to emerge during ***,the evolution of the larger brains in hominins may have co-occurred with an increase in the cognitive complexity underpinning gestural communication and this,in turn,may have enabled hominins to live in more complex social groups.

A network of sex and competition： The promiscuous mating system of an invasive weevil

Invasive alien pest insect species represent a major threat for agriculture and biodiversity. Because chemical treatments employed to contrast such pests elicit serious environmental and human health problems, a great effort is currently directed to develop long term and environmentally friendly biological control strategies. However, the successful application of some promising techniques, such as the Sterile Insect Technique （SIT）, requires a deep knowledge of the pest basic biology. Here, we argue that understanding pest sexual biology using a social network approach can significantly improve the performance of con- trol strategies. For example, SIT may benefit from understanding how individuals interact and how males accede to reproduction, in order to target the most reproductively active and polygamic males. In this paper we studied the socio-sexual networks of the Asian red palm weevil （RPW） Rhynchophorusferrugineus, a worldwide invader which is causing heavy economic impacts on several palm species. We found that the RPW has a highly promiscuous mating system, characterized by forced interruptions of pair copulations by additional males. The social network is highly non-random nor regular： few males almost monopolize repro- duction, behaving as key-players in the network of matings. Additionally, males have a stable pattern of sexual behaviour over time. We use RPW social network as a case study to direct the development of management techniques such as SIT strategy [Current Zoology 61 （1）： 85-97, 2015].

Relationships and Evolving networks of Rural Manufacturing Clusters: A Case Study in Yucheng County, Henan Province of China

The evolution of networks in rural industrial clusters,in particular in the context of China has been paid more attention to in the *** the theory and techniques of social network analysis (SNA),this study is with particular regard to the business network relationships and their evolutionary dynamics of steel measuring tape manufacturing clustered in Nanzhuang Village,Yucheng County of Henan Province,China,which is important for better understanding the industrial and regional development in less developed rural *** data collected by comprehensive questionnaire survey in 2002 and mass interviews with 60 enterprises and assembling families and several government authorities in 2002,2003,2004,2005 and 2008,four types of networks are identified: spin-off,consulting,communication and *** characteristic of these networks is outlined in *** with the high-tech clusters of typical developed areas,the networks that have evolved in traditional manufacturing clusters are more affected by emotive *** cluster networks are shown to exhibit a polycentric hierarchical *** family relationships are the dominate spin-off channels of enterprises,while the supply and demand relationships and the mobility of the skilled workers are also important paths of network learning,and the cooperation relationships are comparatively *** the root enterprises,the middle-sized enterprises are comparatively more active than small-sized enterprises,and the intermediary agencies and the service institutions act as bridges of the inter-enterprises *** analysis of the structure of networks and the interactions between the networks,the four stages of network evolution are also *** four stages are dominated by the family networks,the internal division production networks,the local innovation networks and the global supply networks respectively,and they play different roles in cluster development.

The effect of social context and social scale on the perception of relationships in monk parakeets

social relationships formed within a network of interacting group members can have a profound impact on an indi- vidual＇s behavior and fitness. However, we have little understanding of how individuals perceive their relationships and how this perception relates to our external measures of interactions. We investigated the perception of affiliative and agonistic relation- ships at both the dyadic and emergent social levels in two captive groups of monk parakeets （Myiopsitta monachus, n = 21 and 19） using social network analysis and playback experiments. At the dyadic social scale, individuals directed less aggression to- wards their strong affiliative partners and more aggression towards non-partner *** the emergent social scale, there was no association between relationships in different social contexts and an individual＇s dominance rank did not correlate with its popularity rank. Playback response pattems were mainly driven by relationships in affiliative social contexts at the dyadic scale. In both groups, individual responses to playback experiments were significantly affected by strong affiliative relationships at the dyadic social scale, albeit in different directions in the two groups. Response pattems were also affected by affiliative relation- ships at the emergent social scale, but only in one of the two groups. Within affiliative relationships, those at the dyadic social scale were perceived by individuals in both groups, but those at the emergent social scale only affected responses in one group. These results provide preliminary evidence that relationships in affiliative social contexts may be perceived as more important than agonistic relationships in captive monk parakeet groups. Our approach could be used in a wide range of social species and comparative analyses could provide important insight into how individuals perceive relationships across social contexts and social scales [Current Zoology 61 （1）： 55-69, 2015].

Over recent decades,historical areas conservation has become an important strategy to improve urban competitiveness in the global *** shown in existing studies that the conservation of historical areas mainly focused on the physical environment,there is still room for the non-physical study,and researches on the social network conservation in mountainous historical areas are particularly ***,this paper aims to establish an evaluation system which is helpful for the social network conservation of historical *** evaluation system is based on social network analysis and the information of social relationships gathered in field surveys using a specifically designed questionnaire method in four mountainous towns in Chongqing,*** it was analyzed from three perspectives,i.e.,by the basic statistical properties,condensate subgroup,and *** five analysis indicators were conceived,including density,lambda set,k-core,degree centrality,and betweenness *** analysis results demonstrate that the social networks of the four towns show different indicators,which are respectively relevant to completeness degree,edgerelatedness level,local stability,structural balance,and concentrated trend of social *** from SNA modeling indicate that neighborhood residents of historical areas who have more stable and healthier social relationships are relatively not easily be *** results also illustrate that the social networks structure is influenced by the terrain,form,and function of historical areas,and the change of historical areas is caused by"individual-family-society".Finally,the strategies guiding the social network conservation are put forward from two *** findings suggest that the conservation and management of social network and aborigines in historical areas should be emphasized to increase the collective benefits and vitality.
