buildings are becoming smarter as a result of a variety of advanced technologies that enable energy management, optimal space utilization, and smart surveillance for safety, among other things. Energy-efficient smart building ideas and execution are of great interest and top priority due to the building’s occupants’ misused and high-power consumption. This paper addresses the design and execution of an energy management system that includes a solar power system for generating power for the building’s needs and a PIR-based automation system for efficient power use. This project was carried out at the Military Technological College (MTC) in Muscat, in the system engineering department’s offices. This project seeks to generate power for the building’s energy needs using solar photovoltaic panels and reduce energy consumption within the office using a PIR-based automation system. The results demonstrate that after the breakeven point (the time it takes to recoup the initial investment), it can provide power to the building for another 17 years. The calculations and practical results presented in this study approve that the system is extremely helpful.

A location-based fog computing optimization of energy management in smart buildings:DEVS modeling and design of connected objects

With the rapid development of rule engine-based smart building systems,it is urgent to address the potential conflicts between different control rules to ensure system usability and *** this end,this paper proposed a rule conflict detection approach based on the statistical model checking ***,it presented a conflict taxonomy for smart building rules,systematically considering conflicts between different rules,and rule conflicts against system invariant ***,it proposed depicting smart building control rules,dynamic trigger sources and actuators with the NPTA(Network of Priced Timed Automata for short) model,and specifying rule conflicts with temporal ***,it proposed carrying out conflict detection with the statistical model checking technique based on the above formal model and formal *** validate the effectiveness of this approach,we carried out a case study on a superstore ventilation and air conditioning system,and demonstrated the rule conflict detection processes of 8 types of rule *** results demonstrate that the proposed approach can explicitly depict smart building rule interactions,and can effectively diagnose and detect rule conflicts,ensuring usability and reliability of the rule-based smart building control rules.

Nowadays,smart buildings rely on Internet of things(loT)technology derived from the cloud and fog computing paradigms to coordinate and collaborate between connected *** is characterized by low latency with a wider spread and geographically distributed nodes to support mobility,real-time interaction,and location-based *** provide optimum quality of user life in moderm buildings,we rely on a holistic Framework,designed in a way that decreases latency and improves energy saving and services efficiency with different *** EVent system Specification(DEVS)is a formalism used to describe simulation models in a modular *** this work,the sub-models of connected objects in the building are accurately and independently designed,and after installing them together,we easily get an integrated model which is subject to the fog computing *** results show that this new approach significantly,improves energy efficiency of buildings and reduces ***,with DEVS,we can easily add or remove sub-models to or from the overall model,allowing us to continually improve our designs.

The use of sustainable technologies for buildings, with the goal of creating an environment for living and working that uses fewer resources and generates less waste, also aims to retrofit existing buildings to be more efficient in terms of energy and water. Many cities are following this way targeting both commercial and municipal buildings. These cities are called smart cities where all life processes and nerve centers of social life are read, in order to radically improve quality of life, opportunity, prosperity, social and economic development, thanks to the use of technology. This paper deals with the study of smart buildings within smart cities, namely the use in an integrated project of computer and telematics tools with automation organized systems and passive bioclimatic strategies in architecture, determining a socio-technical management of intelligent building. The article is the result of a research carded out within the framework of intelligent buildings in the last generation cities, such as those ones with zero emissions that are taking place in the Middle East countries （Dubai, Masdar, Tiajin, and Kochi）. The topic deals with the issues of building automation as a form of technological intelligence and the study of those smart technologies integrated into the building envelope that improve its performances, making it more sustainable. The research methodology has provided a bibliographic retrieval on the state of the art and the latest technological trends in the building field, later has followed a theoretical and comparative approach of the examined technologies, which led to the development of reasoning on operation, performance and functional capabilities of a building that is both sustainable and home automation, to arrive at the final concept of sustainable intelligent building, able to combine the artificial intelligence, home automation, and technological devices of the architectural project to enhance the building energy performance. buildings contribute to a major part of energy consumption in urban areas, especially in areas like Hong Kong which is full of high-rise buildings. smart buildings with high efficiency can reduce the energy consumption largely and help achieve green cities or smart cities. Design and control optimization of building energy systems therefore plays a significant role to obtain the optimal performance. This paper introduces a general methodology for the design and control optimization of building energy systems in the life cycle. When the design scheme of building energy systems is optimized, primary steps and related issues are introduced. To improve the operation performance, the optimal control strategies that can be used by different systems are presented and key issues are discussed. To demonstrate the effect of the methods, the energy system of a high-rise building is introduced. The design on the chilled water pump system and cooling towers is improved. The control strategies for chillers,pumps and fresh air systems are optimized. The energy saving and cost from the design and control optimization methods are analyzed. The presented methodology will provide users and stakeholders an effective approach to improve the energy efficiency of building energy systems and promote the development of smart buildings and smart cities.

In the present scenario,the utilities are focusing on smart grid technologies to achieve reliable and profitable grid *** side management(DSM)is one of such smart grid technologies which motivate end users to actively participate in the electricity market by providing *** are expected to respond(demand response(DR))in various ways to attain these ***,residential consumers are interested in energy storage devices such as battery to reduce power consumption from the utility during peak *** this paper,the use of a smart residential energy management system(SREMS)is demonstrated at the consumer premises to reduce the total electricity bill by optimally time scheduling the operation of household ***,the SREMS effectively utilizes the battery by scheduling the mode of operation of the battery(charging/floating/discharging)and the amount of power exchange from the battery while considering the variations in consumer demand and utility parameters such as electricity price and consumer consumption limit(CCL).The SREMS framework is implemented in Matlab and the case study results show significant yields for the end user.

Occupants are the core of the built *** heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning(HVAC)systems operate with predefined schedules and maximum occupancy assumptions with no consideration of specific occupant *** generalized assumptions usually do not align with the actual demand and result in over-conditioning and occupant *** recent years,with the aid of Information&Communication Technology(ICT)and Computer Science(CS),it is possible to acquire real-time and accurate occupant information to satisfy the exact thermal requirement through specific HVAC control in one particular built *** mechanism is called HVAC“Occupant-centric Control(OCC).”HVAC OCC strategy starts with collecting the occupant’s information(e.g.,presence/absence)and then applies it to meet the occupant’s requirement(e.g.,thermal comfort).However,even though some research studies and field pilot demonstrations have been devoted to the field of OCC,there is a lack of systematic knowledge about occupant data,which is the principal component of OCC for HVAC researchers and *** fill this gap,this review paper discusses OCC with a particular emphasis on occupant information and investigates how this information can assist HVAC operation in providing an acceptable built environment in required spaces during the required *** provide a fine-grained,comprehensive picture of occupant information,discuss its features,the modalities of information feed-in into the HVAC control,and the application of commonly utilized occupant information for OCC.
