Blue Cap Is Effective and Safe for the Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Background: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is the most common inflammatory skin disease in children. Treatment of AD is based on skin barrier repair and reduction of inflammation. We analyzed the efficacy and safety of activated piroctone olamine (APO)—Blue Cap—in children with AD. Materials and Methods: An open-label interventional clinical study was carried out at three clinical centers in Serbia. A total of 58 patients with AD, aged between 3 and 18 years were included and treated with Blue Cap Foam (100 ml;CATALYSIS S.L. Madrid)—Activated Piroctone Olamine—applied twice a day in the affected areas with eczema for 30 days and final assessment at 45 days from baseline. Photographic documentation, clinical evaluation, therapy effectiveness and safety questionnaires were assessed at baseline, 15, 30 and 45 days. Results: Our results demonstrated a significant reduction in signs (erythema, scaling, infiltration, excoriations, xerosis) and symptoms (pruritus) at weeks 2 and 4 of the study. At the end of the study, most patients had moderate (28.6%) to great (62.5%) disappearance of manifestations and moderate (25%) to great (71.4%) skin quality improvement. The effect and tolerability of the therapy were evaluated as very good in 66.1 % and 67.9% and good in about 14.3% and 17.9%, assessed by the investigator and patient, respectively. Three patients experienced a burning sensation at the beginning of the study, the side-effects were resolved as the patients continued applying the foam. After two weeks of cessation of the investigated foam, a significant percentage of patients experienced worsening in the final assessment done by the investigator as well as the participant. In the final assessment, a significantly high percentage (57.1%) of patients had a total reduction of manifestation, and a significant number of participants considered the applied product as treatment success, assessed by the investigator (62.5%) as well as the participants (66.4%). Palm kernel oil is a vegetable oil derived from Elaeis guineensis and widely used in neonatal settings for skin care. It is a good emollient with a beneficial effect in moisturizing the skin and preventing transdermal heat and water loss. However, it＇s putative roles in the prevention or treatment of fatty acid deficiency is still controversial. So is its function in the improvement of neurological development from its long- chain polyunsaturated fatty acids？ We set out in this review to verify whether its empiric use in this context has any scientific justification and is recommendable. Although there is evidence that it has emollient and moisturizing properties necessary for softening the skin and restoring elasticity, controversy subsists on its other nutritional and neurodevelopmental properties.

Potential Application of a Wine Extract in skin care: How to Benefit from the Antibacterial, Antioxidant and Elastase Inhibiting Properties

Since plant polyphenols have many beneficial properties on health, the aim of this study was to evaluate the potential use of a phenolic wine extract, a by-product of wine production, for skin care on HaCaT cells. In these studies, a significant reduction of reactive oxygen species formation in HaCaT cells and severe elastase inhibition was observed. In contrast, the wine extract caused a major increase in lipase activity. The extract showed no influence on cell proliferation, but an immunomodulatory effect on the release of the interleukins IL-6 and IL-8 was found. The phenolic wine extract demonstrated a strong activity against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens, yeasts, and fungi. Overall, our results show that the investigated phenolic wine extract is a promising ingredient for anti-aging skin care, could contribute to the improvement of skin appearance and health, and may positively affect cellulite.

Effective skin care Guidance for Patients with Acne Vulgaris after Standard Treatment

With the introduction of new drugs, the treatment of acne vulgaris has improved dramatically;however, there remains a considerable gap between treatment outcomes and patients’ treatment goals. This study aimed to determine whether dermatologists’ guidance on appropriate skincare for skin symptoms such as post-inflammatory erythema and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), which are not covered by acne treatment, leads to an improvement in patients’ skin condition and patient satisfaction. Japanese women who had completed standard treatment for acne vulgaris and those with mild symptoms not requiring treatment were included in the study. The participants received instructions about skin care at the beginning of the study, which they continued to apply for 6 weeks. At the start and end of the study, participants were examined by a dermatologist;afterward, skin measurements, including skin color, skin surface lipid content, and image analysis by VISIA® Evolution, analysis of stratum corneum obtained from the skin surface, and skindex-16 questionnaire for assessing quality of life (QOL), were performed. The following showed significant improvements: PIH score, number of inflammatory acne lesions, and number of non-inflammatory acne lesions observed via skin examination;skin surface lipid content and values of L* and a* obtained via instrumental measurement;n number of pore, texture, red spot, and pigmented spot obtained via by image analysis;and degree of multilayer exfoliation and interleukin-1α determined by analysis of epidermal stratum corneum. QOL measurement using skindex-16 also improved significantly. Appropriate skin care guidance following standard acne vulgaris treatment is helpful in achieving patients’ treatment goals. .

Background Globally,are skincare practices and skin injuries in extremely preterm infants comparable?This study describes skin injuries,variation in skincare practices and investigates any association between them.Methods A web-based survey was conducted between February 2019 and August 2021.Quantifying skin injuries and describing skincare practices in extremely preterm infants were the main outcomes.The association between skin injuries and skincare practices was established using binary multivariable logistic regression adjusted for regions.Results Responses from 848 neonatal intensive care units,representing all geographic regions and income status groups were received.Diaper dermatitis(331/840,39%)and medical adhesive-related skin injuries(319/838,38%)were the most common injuries.Following a local skincare guideline reduced skin injuries[medical adhesive-related injuries:adjusted odds ratios(aOR)=0.63,95%confidence interval(CI)=0.45–0.88;perineal injuries:aOR=0.66,95%CI=0.45–0.96;local skin infections:OR=0.41,95%CI=0.26–0.65;chemical burns:OR=0.46,95%CI=0.26–0.83;thermal burns:OR=0.51,95%CI=0.27–0.96].Performing skin assessments at least every four hours reduced skin injuries(abrasion:aOR=0.48,95%CI=0.33–0.67;pressure:aOR=0.51,95%CI=0.34–0.78;diaper dermatitis:aOR=0.71,95%CI=0.51–0.99;perineal:aOR=0.52,95%CI=0.36–0.75).Regional and resource settings-based variations in skin injuries and skincare practices were observed.Conclusions skin injuries were common in extremely preterm infants.Consistency in practice and improved surveillance appears to reduce the occurrence of these injuries.Better evidence regarding optimal practices is needed to reduce skin injuries and minimize practice variations.

Potential of Natural Killer Cell Enriched Conditioned Media for skin care and Anti-Aging

Natural killer (NK) cell is a type of immune cell and is known to be particularly responsible for innate immunity such as anti-cancer immunity, defense mechanisms against infections, and secretion of various cytokines and chemokines for increasing recruitment of other immune cells. In this study, we investigated the potentials of NK-enriched lymphocytes (NKEL) conditioned media (CM) on skin care for cosmeceutical compositions. Various cytokines of NKEL CM can improve wound healing through epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by increasing KLKs (kallikreins) and reduce metalloproteinase (MMP)-1 and MMP-2 to inhibit wrinkle formation. Our results suggest that NKEL CM which has various cytokines promotes up-regulation of cell migration and KLKs and down-regulation of MMP-1 and MMP-2 by stimulating HaCaT keratinocytes migration. Therefore, NKEL CM can be used as a cosmetic composition that can play a role in skin regeneration and anti-aging.

Acidification of the skin and Maintenance of the Physiological skin pH Value by Buffered skin care Products Formulated around pH 4

Each biological system possesses a widely unrecognized buffer system to maintain acid-base balance to a specific pH. The skin pH is crucial for physiological skin function. In aged or diseased skin, pH increase is observed and may negatively affect skin health. skin care products with a pH that is slightly more acidic than the average normal skin pH and have an adequate buffering capacity, are considered beneficial for the skin. However, the buffer capacity of these products also plays an important role. In the present study, a possible normalization or acidification of skin surface pH and influence on skin hydration and skin barrier function was assessed via application of buffered skin care products that are formulated with pH ≤ 4.5. 48 subjects aged above 50 were treated with three different skin care products (Vitamin C Spheres, Collagen Spray, and Collagen Mask) and skin surface pH, skin hydration and barrier integrity were assessed before treatment start and after 4 weeks. The results show that after 4-week treatment with Vitamin C, the skin pH is acidified. Treatment with Collagen Spray and Collagen Mask showed maintenance of a physiological skin pH. Subgroup analysis of subjects that had a higher than average skin pH at study start demonstrated that all three tested skin care products were able to acidify the skin surface. In addition, skin hydration was also increased for two of the three tested products, whereas skin barrier is not significantly changed. This demonstrates that buffered skin care products formulated to a pH ≤ 4.5 are able to acidify and maintain physiological skin pH and may contribute to a physiological skin function.

Study on the Efficacy of Men’s Facial skin Cleaning and care Cosmetics

This paper has provided references for the evaluation of men’s facial skin cleanness and efficacy through the research on the cleanness of a men’s facial cleanser,the oil-controlling,moisturizing and brightening effects of a men’s skin lotion,and the people’s usage experience.The results showed that the skin grease and the liquid foundation could be effectively cleaned after using a facial cleanser.After using the lotion for 2 weeks,the oil content was significantly different from that before and in the blank group,showing a rapid oil control effect.Excellent moisturizing effect could last until 4 weeks.There was a significant difference in the change value of skin transdermal water loss rate,indicating that the skin barrier was improved to some extent.There was remarkable effect of skin glossiness after 4 weeks of continual use compared with the blank group.The subjects’overall satisfaction with the skin after using the lotion was 86.7%through self-assessment.

Development and validation of the atopic dermatitis and infant skincare knowledge,attitude,and practice(ADISKAP 1.0)scale

Importance:Preserving skin health is crucial for atopic dermatitis control as well as for the thriving of children.However,a well-developed and validated tool that measures the knowledge,attitude,and practice of skin care is lacking.Objective:To develop and validate the atopic dermatitis and infant skincare knowledge,attitude,and practice(ADISKAP 1.0)scale that measures parental health literacy on atopic dermatitis and skin care.Methods:We conducted a review of the literature,a focus group(two dermatologists and 12 parents),and a panel discussion in order to generate the ADISKAP prototype.Two samples of parents with knowingly superior(dermatologists,n=59)and inferior(general population,n=395)knowledge traits participated in the validation of ADISKAP.Cronbach’s alpha was reported as a measure of internal consistency,and the intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC)was calculated to assess the test-retest validity.The known-groups technique was used to evaluate construct validity.Results:The ADISKAP scale contained 17 items after content and face validity validation.After removing items that displayed poor test-retest reliability(n=4)and construct validity(n=3),12 items were retained in the ADISKAP 1.0.Interpretation:ADISKAP 1.0 is a reliable and valid tool for assessing parental knowledge,attitude,and practice on infantile atopic dermatitis and skin care.

Protective and Regenerative Anti-Pollution Efficacy of a Plant Oil-Based Day and Night Cream: Investigated by a Novel Approach to Reveal the Impact of Pollutants on Epidermal Barrier Integrity and Lipid Matrix

In the wake of ever-increasing environmental pollution, human skin in the modern urban world is exposed to increased levels of harmful environmental pollutants. Many studies have shown that these pollutants can weaken the epidermal skin barrier and thus facilitate the penetration of these substances into the skin. An important goal of modern skin care against harmful environmental influences should therefore be to protect and strengthen the epidermal barrier and to repair occurring damage quickly and efficiently. With this in mind, in the present study we investigated what damage cigarette smoke causes to the epidermal barrier and 1) whether the regular application of a O/W emulsion (Day Cream) can protectively strengthen the epidermal barrier against environmental damage and 2) whether a cigarette smoke-induced disruption of the epidermal barrier is restored faster and better by the regular application of a another O/W emulsion (Night Cream) than in product-untreated skin. The two products are slightly different in plant-oil, active ingredient composition and texture. Firstly, the study has shown that the Lipbarvis? method is suitable for measuring the effect of cigarette smoke, in contrast to conventional biophysical measurement methods (transepidermal water loss, skin hydration). Secondly, both products were able to improve skin barrier function in the corresponding test scenario. This was demonstrated for both test products by a significantly reduced TEWL, significantly increased skin hydration and significantly improved length of the lipid lamellae in the intercellular space, as well as the protective effect of the day cream on the epidermal skin barrier and the regenerative properties of the tested night cream. .
