The Origin and Features of the Two Intermediate-Acid Intrusive series in Tongling Area, Anhui, China

The Mesozoic intermediate-acid intrusive rocks in Tongling area can be divided into two magmatic series, namely the shoshonitic series and the high-potassium (K) calc-alkaline series. The shoshonitic series is characterized by an association of pyroxene monzodiorites+monzodiorites+quartz monzonites, the Rittmann indices of these rocks are greater than 4 (ranging from 4.2 to 5.8), the total of rare earth elements (SREE) ranges from 210?0-6 to 260?0-6, and has good relationship with gold deposits. The high-potassium calc-alkaline series is by an association of diorite+quartz monzodiorites+granodiorites, the Rittmann indices are less than 4 (1.8-3.2), SREE 130?0-6 -180?0-6, and has good relationship with copper deposits. Together with lithoenclave study, it can be concluded that the shoshonitic series magma is derived from the differentiation of the alkaline basic magma in mantle and the high-potassium (K) calc-alkaline series magma is mixture between the differentiated mantle magma and crustal magma.

Isotopic characteristics of shoshonitic rocks in eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau: Petrogenesis and its tectonic implication

The Cenozoic magmatic rocks of shoshonitic series in the eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau include potassic alkaline plutonic rocks, volcanic rocks, lamprophyres and acidic porphyries. Analytical results show that these different lithological rocks are extremely similar in Sr, Nd and Pb isotopic compositions with the range of 0.705 187-0.707 254 for 87Sr/86Sr, 0.512 305-0.512 630 for 143Nd/144Nd, 18.53-18.97 for 206Pb/204Pb, 15.51-15.72 for 207Pb/204Pb and 38.38-39.24 for 208Pb/204Pb. They are isotopically similar to the EMU end-member. This indicates that mantle metasomatism must have taken place in their source region. The formation of these particular rocks is related to crustal thinning and mantle upwelling in a large-scale strike-slip and pull-apart fault zone at about 40 Ma in northern and eastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The Tongshi intrusive complex,located within the western Shandong Province(Luxi Block)in the eastern North China Craton,comprises high-K calc-alkaline series(fine-grained quartz monzonite and porphyritic quartz monzonite) and shoshonitic series(coarse-to fine-grained porphyritic syenites).Here we report comprehensive data on petrology,geochemistry,Sr-Nd-Pb isotopes and zircon U-Pb and Hfisotopic compositions from the intrusive ***-ICPMS zircon U-Pb ages show that this complex was emplaced at 180.1-184.7 *** fine-grained quartz monzonite and porphyritic quartz monzonite have similar major and trace elements features,implying a similar petrogenetic *** with the widespread Neoarchean inherited zircons in these rocks,the high SiO and NaO as well as the low MgO contents and low Pb isotopic ratios((Pb/Pb)=15.850-16.881, (Pb/Pb)=14.932-15.261,(Pb/Pb)=35.564-36.562) of the quartz monzonites suggest an origin from ancient tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite(TTG) ***,their higher Nd and Hf isotopic ratios (ε(t)=-11.7 to -7.0,ε(t)=-25.0 to -10.3) as compared to the basement rocks indicate input of enriched lithospheric mantle-derived *** coarse- to fine-grained porphyritic syenites were derived from similar sources as inferred from their comparable major and trace elements contents as well as the Nd, Hf and Pb isotopic *** Neoarchean inherited zircons and depletion of Nb,Ta,P and Ti in these rocks indicate the involvement of ancient ***,the high Nd and Hf isotopic ratios(ε(t)= -0.8 to 1.5,ε(t)=-4.4 to 4.8) coupled with high Pb isotopic compositions((Pb/Pb)=18.082-19.560, (Pb/Pb)=15.510-15.730,(Pb/Pb)=37.748-39.498) suggest that the porphyritic syenites were mainly derived from an asthenospheric mantle,Based on the geochemical and isotopic features,a magmatic process similar to MASH(melting,assimilation,storage and homogenization) is proposed for the fine-grained quartz monzonite and AFC(assimilation and fractional
