Consideration of the Existence of shangri-la in Lost Horizon——From the Author's Writing Intention

Lost Horizon is a magnum opus of a famous English novelist James Hilton. Based on the original version of Lost Horizon, this thesis firstly studies the historical background of Lost Horizon and the author’s life before analyzing the reason for writing the novel. At last, this thesis analyzes the image of shangri-la by associating it with Utopianism. Finally, here comes the conclusion that the author successfully built a peaceful and harmonious land which is far away from the real world. The intention of describing of the main character Conway is to encourage people to pursue what they want, to pursue serenity and satisfaction with both material and mental environments. At the meantime, shangri-la can be a mirror for people to introspect themselves whether their behavior is good for environment and society.

[Objectives]To calculate and study the biomass emergy of main forests in shangri-la,Tibetan area of Yunnan Province.[Methods]Four main forest biomass values of *** and ***,***,*** and *** in shangri-la,Yunnan were determined by emergy method.[Results]The energy of the four kinds of forests was 2572252.4906×106 J,the emergy was 10767.3366×1020sej,and the economic value was 43756.8411×0.1 billion *** total economic value was 41.56 times of GDP and 5494.94 times of forestry output value in 2020;the emergy storage density was 9271.7959×1010 sej/m2,and the per capita emergy reserve was 741.2202×1016 sej/person;the per capita macro value was 30.122081 million yuan,which was 875.59 times that of the per capita GNP of 34402 yuan in 2020.[Conclusions]The value of forest ecological assets was mainly distributed in *** and *** in four main forests and arborous layer in vertical *** value of forest biomass in shangri-la is much higher than that of developing forestry economy,and it is a valuable and potential *** should strengthen the protection of forest ecological environment and maintain forest assets.

The development and protection of shangri-la wetlands in southwestern Yunnan Province is of great significance for the protection of regional biodiversity, ecotourism and regional development. To specify the functions of shangri-la wetlands, with the help of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), 7 typical wetlands in shangri-la (Bita lake Wetland, Napa lake Wetland, Shudu lake Wetland, Dazhongdian Wetland, Xiaozhongdian Wetland, Dahei lake Wetland, Jinsha River Wetland) were selected for the quantitative analysis of 20 indexes in 3 comprehensive assessment layers (service functions, protective functions and production functions). The results showed that shangri-la wetlands followed the below sequence in function: Bita lake Wetland (0.811 4), Shudu lake Wetland (0.739 3), Napa lake Wetland (0.695 3), Dahei lake Wetland (0.659 5), Jinsha River Wetland (0.614 3), Dazhongdian Wetland (0.520 4) and Xiaozhongdian Wetland (0.505 2). As single indexes of those wetlands were compared, it was found that values of certain indexes varied greatly, and value differences among 5 of 20 indexes even reached more than 100%, among which that of water supply capacity and tourism recreational value (164.60%) remained the highest, then water supplementation capacity (121.17%) and habitat stability (109.05%), and others varied between 5.58%-91.10%. The assessment results were similar to actual conditions, thus such a method was proved scientific and practical.

In situ measurements of ozone (O3 ), carbon monoxide (CO) and meteorological parameters were made at the shangri-la regional atmosphere background station (28.006°N,99.726°E, 3580 m a.s.l.) in southwest China from December 2007 to November 2009. It is found that both O3 and CO peak in spring while the valley of O3 and CO is respectively in summer and in winter. An indicator (marked as ’Y’) of the downward transport on the basis of the monthly normalized O3 , CO, and water vapor, is proposed to evaluate the occurrence of O3 downward transport from the upper O3 -rich atmosphere. It is shown that the most frequent downward transport events happened in winter and they might play a significant contribution to surface O3 at shangri-la. A case of strong O3 downward transport on the synoptic condition of a deep westerly trough is studied by the combination of the Y indicator, potential vorticity, total column ozone, and trajectory analysis. An estimation of 9.6 ppb increase (21.0%) of surface ozone is deduced with impacts of deep downward transports in winter.

The Zhongdian swamp meadow in Zhongdian,China is well known as "shangri-la",where the peat has never been studied for its potential to interact with *** acid(HA) was extracted from Zhongdian peat using two methods,namely sodium pyrophosphate extraction(SPE) and dilute base extraction(DBE),and characterized for its functional groups and sorption *** HAs extracted by both methods contained several active functional groups and had large external specific surface *** adsorption mechanism of methylene blue onto HAs was interpreted as langmuir ***-HA showed higher sorption capacity because of its larger specific surface area,whereas the extraction yield of DBE-HA was twice that of *** modeling indicated that the sorption of methylene blue was a two-component first order *** component with the higher rate constant also showed higher sorption *** pH effect was observed for methylene blue sorption on HA in our experimental design,and the sorption decreased as the temperature increased.
