Restoration of the quality of life(QoL)of trauma injury survivors is the aim of trauma rehabilitation.It is generally acknowledged that sexuality is an important component of QoL;however,rehabilitation services frequently fall short of including sexuality as a matter of routine.The literature was reviewed to examine the experiences of trauma survivors from three groups:spinal cord injury(SCI),traumatic brain injury(TBI)and burns.The focus was on the impact of trauma on the QoL to identify future research directions and to advocate for the inclusion of sexuality as an integral part of rehabilitation.Databases searched were Proquest,Ovid,Cinahl,Medline,PsycInfo and Cochrane Central Register of controlled trials.A total of 36 eligible studies were included:SCI(n=25),TBI(n=6),burns(n=5).Four themes were identified across the three trauma groups that were labeled as physiological impact of trauma on sexuality,cognitive-genital dissociation(CGD),sexual disenfranchisement(SD)and sexual rediscovery(SR).Trauma injury has a significant impact on sexuality,which is not routinely addressed within rehabilitation services.Further sexuality research is required among all trauma groups to improve rehabilitation services and in turn QoL outcomes for all trauma survivors.

Background Sexual and reproductive health among adolescents have become increasingly important and aroused international concerns. In this study, we investigate sexual knowledge, attitudes, sexual behaviors, the unwanted pregnancy and the abortion rate and to explore related determinants among college students in Beijing. Methods This study is based on a cross-sectional survey of college students＇ knowledge, attitudes and behavior. Multistage cluster sampling was used to select subjects in Beijing. The self-questionnaire designed.by our research group including general information, knowledge, attitude and behavior about sexuality was used to collect information. A total of 2003 questionnaires were collected from June to July 2010. Results The data showed that most of the college students lacked knowledge about reproductive health. Only 17.9% of the respondents knew the appropriate time of abortion. Data also showed that the respondents had high-risk attitude about sex, 58.7% could accept premarital sex, and 29.7% had negative attitude towards contraception. Moreover, sexual activity of the respondents was active. Data showed that 18.5% of the respondents had had sexual activities. Significantly more boys than girls had sex （Х^2=73.374, P 〈0.001）. Among the boys and girls who reported sexual history, 43.1% of the boys had impregnated girlfriend and 49.3% of the girls among those people who have sex had unwanted pregnancies. Logistic regression analysis showed that the variables the gender （OR=3.12, 95% CI： 2.39-4.11）, grade （OR=1.78, 95% CI： 1.40-2.26）, specialty （OR=1.35, 95% CI： 1.12-1.74）, family situation （OR=1.66, 95% CI： 1.15-2.38）, score of knowledge （OR=0.74, 95% CI： 0.58-0.95） and attitude to sex activity （OR=0.09, 95% CI： 0.04-0.22） had a significant effect on having sexual behavior. Conclusions College students lack knowledge and methods students have high-risk sexual attitude and behaviors. It was aimed to describe the experiences at the practice of sexuality of women with physical disabilities. This study is part of a doctoral thesis entitled sexuality in women with acquired deficiency: nursing in health promotion and empowerment. It was conducted an exploratory descriptive study with qualitative approach, which was carried out from June to October, in the year of 2010. The survey participants were six women members of an association of people with physical disabilities. Data collection was based on focal group. Analysis and discussion by means of the classification of the speeches were performed according to the analysis of content and pertinent literature. In the results, the following categories and sub-categories were identified: concepts, covering self-image and sexuality;social actors, responsible for the promotion of sexuality, with highlight for men, family and health professionals;challenges experienced in the practice of sexuality, with highlight on prejudice and fear of sexual abuse due to the disability. We could state that the focus groups favored the discussion and the self-knowledge of the women with respect to sexuality.

Expressing sexuality is an important part of life, whether the person has a spinal cord injury (SCI) or not. This study investigated the sexual activity before and after SCI, the difficulties, and adjustments made by these people in relation to their sexuality. This is a qualitative study conducted with 14 people with SCI through semi-structured interviews, which we analyzed in light of pertinent literature and organized into three themes: sexual activity before and after SCI;difficulties in performing sexual activities;and adjustments in sexual activity after SCI. We conclude that, although there may be many difficulties, with the partner’s support they can get sexual satisfaction and adapt to the new reality. Nonetheless, it is necessary and essential that the patient receive guidance about the possible changes and adaptive methods, and nurses can play a critical role in this process.

Background: Young people, especially those in tertiary institutions are vulnerable to unplanned and unprotected sexual intercourse which predisposes them to unintended pregnancies and subsequently unsafe abortions. One of the key interventions for reduction of unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortions is effective use of emergency contraceptives. Objectives: To assess the sexuality, perception, attitude towards and determinants of usage of emergency contraception among female undergraduates in Lagos, Nigeria. Sexual lifestyles are closely related to overall human health and well-being.Few studies have focused on sexual lifestyles among older adults living with HIV(OALHIV),especially in low-and middle-income countries.This study is a part of the sexual well-being among older adults in China(SWELL)study,which is a multicenter cross-sectional study focused on sexual health among older adults aged 50 years and older.Participants were 680 OALHIV(≥50 years old)from the SWELL study conducted from June 2020 to December 2022.Data were collected through one-on-one interviews.We used logistic regression to assess the correlates of sexual activity and sexual satis-faction.Among all participants,37.1%were sexually active.Being older,male,in a steady relationship and employed were associated with being sexually active.The prevalence of sexual satisfaction was 69.8%among sexually active OALHIV.Being homosexual and reporting a better general health status were associated with sexual satisfaction.The OALHIV who have depressive symptoms were less likely to report sexual satisfaction.To support holistic healthy aging among OALHIV,it is important for healthcare providers to be educated about the importance of enquiring about sexual activity,satisfaction and problems and addressing concerns while conveying sex-positive attitudes during clinical reviews,as these are still critical aspects of their health and well-being.

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes socio-economic, psychological and sexual problems. It imposes limitations on sexual relationships and these issues are still taboo in African society. Objective: The objective is to assess the impact of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) on women’s sexuality at the Ignace Deen National Hospital. Patients and Methods: This was an analytic case-control study of 8 months (from April 6, 2020 to December 11, 2020). All patients followed for rheumatoid arthritis diagnosed according to 2010 ACR/EULAR criteria for RA had been included. Results: One hundred and five women (52 RA patients and 53 controls) were collected. The two groups were comparable in terms of demographic characteristics. Sexual dysfunction was found in 69.2% of cases versus 35.8% of controls. Women with RA had poorer sexual functioning in the categories of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain of the FSFI score compared to healthy women (p = 0.01;p = 0.7;p = 0.3;p = 0.8;p = 0.1;and p = 0.3 respectively). Patients were 4 times more likely to have sexual dysfunction than healthy individuals and this result was statistically significant with a p-value less than 0.05. Aim: Until the 1980s, due largely to prejudice, post-menopausal women were believed to experience significantly less sexual desire and thus to have sexual intercourse less often than before menopause. Since the 1990s, this type of prejudices seems to have decreased. The aim of our study is to examine the sexuality of post-menopausal women by comparing it to same aged men’s sexual behaviour and the importance of sexuality in their life. Methods: A sample of 1,526 women and 1,151 men aged 55 and over. Results: Female subjects reported having sexual intercourse as often as women in the general population (once a week for 64% of them). The same proportion of women as men consider that a successful sexual life: is essential for a successful couple life (90%), needs continuous creativity (80%), has a deep positive impact on their well-being (87%). For most of them (82%), a satisfying sex life is possible only if there is a deep love relationship. 55% say they have never met sexual problems. The main complaints cited are vaginal dryness (45%) and a lack of desire (42%). Only 20% of those who had sexual problems report that age and time passing by are responsible for their troubles. In second place, they mention stress (19%), followed by relationship problems, and nervous breakdown (13%). Conclusion: Our study suggests that nowadays, there is no marked difference between post-menopausal women and men’s sexuality either in terms of frequency, or in terms of its importance in their life. Whenever physical problems linked to sexuality arise, they are more often attributed to stress added to relationship problems rather than to ageing. This study shows once again how sexuality is influenced by prejudices.

This article will retrace the developmental lines of societal discourses concerning sexuality as well as the changing significance,acceptance,de-dramatization,and normalization of non-heteronormative,non-binary configurations of gender.In a first step,the figure of the continuum will be outlined as a theoretical framework and analytic tool for gender diversity.Subsequently,the article will illustrate certain key data points concerning the situation of women and men in Luxembourg and establish a comparison with the European and international situation.Selected research findings will be discussed,although it must be noted that,in the early 2010s,this research was still concerned exclusively with binary configurations of gender.Following a first synopsis,the paper will divert its attention to trans,intersex,non-binary,queer,and agender persons in Luxembourg and will introduce current national and international research findings concerning Luxembourg,as well as national ministerial measures and positionings.Following an excursion towards sexology in medicine as well as teaching and research environments at universities,the article will cast a glance towards the year 2050 and finally illuminate the relation,the four-way connection between physicality,psyche,social behavior,and desire to thus illustrate perspectives towards possible future developments.
