Secondary sex ratio of assisted reproductive technology babies

Objective: To assess the secondary sex ratio (SSR) of assisted reproduction technology babies within a fertility clinic in Melbourne, Australia. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 3369 babies who were born following single embryo transfer between 2011 and 2016. Variables examined included embryo creation date, maternal and paternal ages, maternal body mass index (BMI), type of infertility, sperm parameters, fertilization method, type of embryo and stage of transfer. Multivariate regression analysis was performed on the data set using STRATA V9.2. Results: More males were found to be born to embryos created in summer (adjusted odds ratio=1.46, 95% confidence interval: 1.08-1.95;P=0.01). Lower BMI of mother (≤30 kg/m 2) and younger age of parents (≤35 years) were associated with an increase in SSR (50.1% vs. 47.1%;50.6% vs. 48.8%;50.0% vs. 48.9%) respectively. Decreased SSR value was associated with primary subfertility, using in-vitro fertilization procedure and fresh embryo compared to those with secondary subfertility, using intracytoplasmic sperm injection procedure and thawed embryo (49.3% vs. 50.6%;47.1% vs. 50.8%;49.4% vs. 50.1%) respectively. Conclusions: The fertilization methods, type of embryo, stage of embryo transfer, parameters of the sperm and status of subfertility do not significantly affect the SSR. SSR is affected by the seasonality, maternal age, and BMI.

Age and sex Distribution of Patients with Vasovagal Syncope Undergoing Head-up Tilt Table Test: 7-Year Audit

To investigate age and sex distribution of vasovagal syncope （VVS） patients undergoing head-up tilt table test （HUTT） at a tertiary hospital. The details of syncope patients who underwent HUTT at our department of cardiac function from January 2004 to December 2010 were reviewed. Of the 1 799 patients who underwent the HUTT, 854 tested positive, of which 558 （65.3%） were women, which were more than the women in the negative group （450, 47.6%）（p〈0.05）. VVS patients showed a bimodal age distribution between 11 and 20 years of age and in the fourth decade. In almost all age groups, mixed response was the highest compared with vasodepressor and cardioinhibitory. VVS patients who underwent HUTT indicate bimodal distribution peaking before the second decade and the fourth decade. The incidence of females was twice that of males before the sixth decade, and old age occupies a small percentage of VVS with no other comorbidities.

BACKGROUND The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic disrupted healthcare in the United *** To investigate COVID-19-related and non-COVID-19-related death and characteristics associated with excess death among inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)*** We performed a register-based study using data from the National Vital Statistics System,which reports death data from over 99%of the United States population,from January 1,2006 through December 31,***-related deaths among adults 25 years and older were stratified by age,sex,race/ethnicity,place of death,and primary cause of *** and actual age-standardized mortality rates(ASMRs)per 100000 persons were *** 49782 IBD-related deaths occurred during the study ***-COVID-19-related deaths increased by 13.14%in 2020 and 18.12%in 2021[2020 ASMR:1.55 actual vs 1.37 predicted,95%confidence interval(CI):1.26-1.49;2021 ASMR:1.63 actual vs 1.38 predicted,95%CI:1.26-1.49].In 2020,non-COVID-19-related mortality increased by 17.65%in ulcerative colitis(UC)patients between the ages of 25 and 65 and 36.36%in non-Hispanic black(NHB)Crohn’s disease(CD)*** the pandemic,deaths at home or on arrival and at medical facilities as well as deaths due to neoplasms also *** IBD patients suffered excess non-COVID-19-related death during the *** death was associated with younger age among UC patients,and with NHB race among CD *** death at home or on arrival and due to neoplasms suggests that delayed presentation and difficulty accessing healthcare may have led to increased IBD mortality.

Objective To evaluate the utility of immunohistochemical staining of p53 expression in endoscopic biopsy specimens in clinical practice. Methods Using a streptavidin peroxidase (S P) conjugate method with monoclonal p53 antibody Do 7, the expression of p53 was investigated immunohistochemically in 150 endoscopic biopsies and paired brushings from patients with benign and malignant gastric diseases. Among them, 22 cases with gastric carcinoma underwent the gastrectomy and the immunohistochemistry was repeated in the resected cancerous tissues of the same patient. Results p53 expression in endoscopic specimens was detectable in 35.7% cases of gastric carcinoma (n=70), 5.9% of gastric polyps (n=17), 16.7% of gastric mucosal dysplasia (n=18) and 4.0% of chronic atrophic gastritis (n=25), but no protein expression was observed in cases of chronic active gastritis (n=20). In 22 patients with tumor resection, 8 (36.4%) were identified with p53 expression in endoscopic specimens before surgery, while 10 (45.5%) were identified with the same expression in surgical specimens, the real positive rate was 80.0%, no false positives were observed in endoscopic specimens. Furthermore, p53 expression in gastric carcinoma was closely correlated with clinical stage and lymph nodes involvement, but did not correlate with histologic type. Conclusions Assay of p53 by immunohistochemistry in endoscopic biopsy specimens and brushings is an easy and reliable technique to assess p53 status in gastric carcinoma, and thus could serve as a marker to foresee the prognosis in these patients and assist in the diagnosis of malignancy before surgery. It may also be a valuable marker in screening patients with high risk of gastric carcinoma.

Random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) was conducted by using 10 ran-dom primers (P-1 to P-10) in Gracilaria lemaneiformis. Phase and sex specific bands were amplified byprimers P-2, P-6, P-7 and P-8: for P-2 a 1 .4 kb band was found in female gametophytes and tetrasporo-phytes, for P-6, a 0.6 kb band appeared in male gametophytes and tetrasporophytes; for P-7, a 0. 76 kbband appeared in male gametophytes and tetrasporophytes; for P-7, a 0.72 kb band appeared in femalegametophytes and tetrasporophytes; for P-8, a 0. 73 kb band only appeared in male gametophytes.

sex Work, Motivations for Entry, and the Combined Impact of Both on Mental Health: A Case Report of Japanese Female Patients within Therapeutic Relationships

The purpose of this study was to explore the motivations for entry into the sex industry. The narratives of four Japanese female psychiatric patients with a past experience of sex work were used for analysis. I identified not only practical factors such as financial difficulties or lack of job skills, but also various psycho-social factors, namely: weak emotional ties with their mothers since infancy, their mothers’ tendency to prioritize sons over daughters, unremitting needs for maternal care, fear of rejection and object-seeking behavior, desire to control others, envy and aggressive self-destructive behavior, difficulties in establishing female peer relationships during adolescence, proneness to dependency on male objects through sexual relationships, past histories of crime and delinquency, weak internal motivation, frequent acting out, and addictive behaviors. In this article I discussed whether their mental maladjustment was purely the product of their past experiences as sex workers, or whether in fact both the maladjustment and the motivations for entry were derived from personality characteristics developed since infancy. Although not applicable to every Japanese sex worker, this article presents a preliminary hypothesis regarding the contribution of the above multi-dimensional factors to the motivations for entry, and the following mental maladjustment.

sex bias in response to hepatitis B vaccination in end-stage renal disease patients:Meta-analysis

AIM： To systematically review the literature for studies investigating the potential effect of gender of dialysis patients on the immunogenicity of hepatitis B virus vaccines. METHODS： Literature searches were conducted by the MEDLINE and Google Scholar. The key words used included “hepatitis B （HB）”, “vaccine”, “dialysis”, “hemodialysis”, “sex”, “male” and “female”. Data of seroresponse to HB vaccine in clinical trials regarding sex of the recipients have been achieved and analyzed. Finally data from 19 clinical trials have been pooled and ***： Analysis of response to HB vaccination in our dialysis population showed males significantly res-pond less to hepatitis B vaccination （P = 0.002, Z = 3.08） with no significant heterogeneity detected [P = 0.766; heterogeneity χ2 = 14.30 （df = 19）; I2 = 0%]. A reanalysis of the pooled data was conducted regarding the dialysis mode to evaluate potential differential impact of sex on HB vaccine response. Hemodialysis was the only subgroup that showed a signifcant difference regarding dialysis mode in response to HB vaccination regarding sex （ P = 0.042, Z = 2.03）.CONCLUSION： This Meta-analysis showed significant effect for the sex of chronic kidney disease and dialysis patients on the immunogenicity of HB vaccine. This sex discrimination was most prominent among hemodialysis patients.
