Sports video summarization and adaptation for application in mobile communication

Sports video appeals to large audiences due to its high commercial potentials. Automatically extracting useful semantic information and generating highlight summary from sports video to facilitate users' accessing requirements is an important problem, especially in the forthcoming broadband mobile communication and the need for users to access their multimedia information of interest from anywhere at anytime with their most convenient digital equipments. A system to generate highlight summaries oriented for mobile applications is introduced, which includes highlight extraction and video adaptation. In this system, several highlight extraction techniques are provided for field sports video and racket sports video by using multi-modal information. To enhance users' viewing experience and save bandwidth, 3D animation from highlight segment is also generated. As an important procedure to make video analysis results universally applicable, video transcoding techniques are applied to adapt the video for mobile communication environment and user preference. Experimental results are encouraging and show the advantage and feasibility of the system for multimedia content personalization, enhancement and adaptation to meet different user preference and network/device requirements.

An Automated System to Predict Popular Cybersecurity News Using Document Embeddings

The substantial competition among the news industries puts editors under the pressure of posting news articleswhich are likely to gain more user attention. Anticipating the popularity of news articles can help the editorial teamsin making decisions about posting a news article. Article similarity extracted from the articles posted within a smallperiod of time is found to be a useful feature in existing popularity prediction approaches. This work proposesa new approach to estimate the popularity of news articles by adding semantics in the article similarity basedapproach of popularity estimation. A semantically enriched model is proposed which estimates news popularity bymeasuring cosine similarity between document embeddings of the news articles. Word2vec model has been used togenerate distributed representations of the news content. In this work, we define popularity as the number of timesa news article is posted on different websites. We collect data from different websites that post news concerning thedomain of cybersecurity and estimate the popularity of cybersecurity news. The proposed approach is comparedwith different models and it is shown that it outperforms the other models.

BACKGROUND： Studies have shown that closed-class words, such as prepositions and conjunctions, induce a left anterior negativity （N280）, indicating that N280 should be a specific component of the word category. OBJECTIVE： To observe if Chinese prepositions and verbs exhibit different linguistic functions, to determine whether they are processed by different neural systems, and to verify that N280 is a specific component. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： The observed neurolinguistics experiment was performed at Xuzhou Normal University between November and December 2006. PARTICIPANTS： Sixteen undergraduate students, comprising 8 females and 8 males, with no mental or neuropathological history, were selected. METHODS： A total of 15 verbs and prepositions were used as linguistic stimuli, and each verb and preposition was combined to produce four correct phrase collocations and four incorrect ones. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Event-related potentials were recorded in the subjects while they read correct or incorrect phases flashed upon a video screen. RESULTS： Both verbs and prepositions elicited negativity at the frontal site in a 230-330 ms window, as well as at the fronto-temporal and central sites in a 350-500 ms window. Neither exhibited significant differences in peak [F（1, 15） = 0.144, P = 0.710] and latency [F（1, 15） = 0.144, P= 0.710]. Both verbs and prepositions elicited negativity at the left and right hemisphere in a 270-400 ms window. CONCLUSION： There was no significant difference between Chinese prepositions and verbs in the neural system process and N280 was not the specific component for closed-class words.

A novel latent semantic indexing （LSI） approach for content-based image retrieval is presented in this paper. Firstly, an extension of non-negative matrix factorization （NMF） to supervised initialization is discussed. Then, supervised NMF is used in LSI to find the relationships between low-level features and high-level semantics. The retrieved results are compared with other approaches and a good performance is obtained.

Task allocation is a fundamental problem in multi-robot systems where heterogeneous robots cooperate to perform a complex mission.A general requirement in a task allocation algorithm is to find an optimal set of robots to execute a certain *** paper presents the work that harnesses an area decomposition algorithm,and a space-based middleware to facilitate task allocation process in unstructured and dynamic *** reduce spatial interference between robots,area decomposition algorithm divides a working area into cells which are then dynamically assigned to *** addition,coordination and collaboration among distributed robots are realized through a space-based *** this purpose,the space-based middleware is extended with a semantic model of robot capabilities to improve task selection in terms of flexibility,scalability,and reduced communication overhead during task *** this way a framework which exploits the synergy of area decomposition and semantically enriched space-based approach is *** conducted performance tests in a specific precision agriculture use case focusing on the utilization of a robotic fleet for weed control introduced in the European Project RHEA–Robot Fleets for Highly Effective Agriculture and Forestry Management.
