Linear angular dispersion compensation of cleaned self-diffraction light with a single prism

The linear angular dispersion of a self-diffraction(SD) pulse, from a femtosecond laser pulse cleaning device, is compensated for by the use of a single prism. More than 500 μJ first-order SD pulse has a contrast of 1012, which is about five orders of magnitude improvement from the input fundamental pulse. The wings of the distribution away from the main pulse in ±1 ps are cleaned with a contrast improvement of about 107, which verifies the pulse cleaning ability of the SD process.

Two-layer structure consisting of PS/PMMA-DR1 composite film planar waveguide layer on porous silicon cladding layer was fabricated in our experiment. The induced grating based on the third nonlinear optical properties was formed by interaction of two Nd∶YAG laser beams at 1064nm in the porous silicon/PMMA-DR1 waveguide. The diffraction efficiency of the first order diffracted light is measured to be about 0.2% of the total output.

All-optical logic-gates based on bacteriorhodopsin film

Based on self-diffraction in bacteriorhodopsin (bR) film, we propose all-optical NOT, XOR, half adder and XNOR logic operations. Using the relation between diffraction light and the polarization states of recording beams, we demonstrate NOT and XNOR logic operations. Studying the relation of polarization states among the diffracting, recording and reading beams, we implement XOR logic and half adder operations with three inputs. The methods are simple and practicable.
