Low-cost and environmentally benign selenides as promising thermoelectric materials

Developing high-efficiency materials with earth-abundant and low-toxicity elements has become a popular trend in the field of thermoelectrics.Among these compounds,oxides and sulfides,the lighter,cheaper and green analogies of tellurides,have been extensively investigated and summarized as well defined classes.Nonetheless,the vast family of selenides with better electrical performance,lower thermal conductivity and higher thermoelectric efficiency have not been specially discussed.Here in this review,we present recent advances in binary and multinary selenide thermoelectric materials,covering traditional PbSe,liquid-like Cu_(2)Se,layered SnSe,diamond-like and disordered multinary compounds.The features of selenides are discussed based on both environmental concerns and from the perspective of chemical bonding,transport properties and performance.Emphasis is put on the“compositionstructure-processing-performance”relationship,and some interesting issues are addressed.Finally,challenges for thermoelectric selenides are discussed,and possible optimization strategies are also suggested.

Application of organic selenides and tellurides in organic synthesis

This paper describes the progress on the synthesis of organic selenides and tellurides and their application in organic synthesis. Low dent selenium and telluronium compounds having high reducing selectivity can be used to form carbon-hydrogen bonds an special reducing reagents. Telluronium ylides can react with aldehydes and ketones by Wittig-type condensation to produce (E)-configuration alkenes stereoselectively. α-Phenylselanyl arsonium ylides were prepared by transylidation reaction of arsonium ylides with phenylselanyl halides which can undergo Wittig-type reactions with carbonyl compounds to give (Z)-α-selanyl-α,β-unsaturated compounds with high stereoselectivity. Zirconium, tin, boron, halogen, metal or hetero-atom were introduced in organoselenium and telluronium compounds an new difunctional group reagents. Under transition metal catalysis, the corresponding cross coupling reactions provide new methods of formation of carbon-carbon double bonds, which were used in the stereoselective synthesis of the alkenes.

Chiral Cobalt(Ⅱ)Complex Catalyzed Asymmetric[2,3]-Sigmatropic Rearrangement of Allylic selenides withα-Diazo Pyrazoleamides

Organoselenium compounds,due to their high structural diversity,special function,and biological activities,have drawn attention in synthetic chemistry.Herein,a novel example of chiral N,N′-dioxide/cobalt(Ⅱ)complex catalyzed asymmetric[2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement of allylic selenides withα-diazo pyrazoleamides is disclosed,which represents a highly efficient approach to optically active selenides bearing a quaternary C–Se stereocenter.Most of the reactions proceed with 0.5–2 mol%catalyst loading in an inert-free gas atmosphere,and a wealth of chiral selenides are obtained in up to 99% yield and 97%enantiomeric excess(ee).The control experiments demonstrate the high reactivity of allylic selenides,as well as the conspicuous superiority of chiral N,N′-dioxide ligand andα-diazo pyrazoleamide in[2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement.The mechanism studies reveal that the key to asymmetric rearrangement of allylic selenium ylides is the transfer of chirality from the stable chiral selenium to the carbon of the product.A feasible catalytic cycle is proposed as well.

Tuning Metallic Co0.85Se Quantum Dots/Carbon Hollow Polyhedrons with Tertiary Hierarchical Structure for High-Performance Potassium Ion Batteries

Potassium-ion batteries(KIBs)are a potential candidate to lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)but possess unsatisfactory capacity and rate properties.Herein,the metallic cobalt selenide quantum dots(Co0.85Se-QDs)encapsulated in mesoporous carbon matrix were designed via a direct hydrothermal method.Specifically,the cobalt selenide/carbon composite(Co0.85Se-QDs/C)possesses tertiary hierarchical structure,which is the primary quantum dots,the secondary petals flake,and the tertiary hollow micropolyhedron framework.Co0.85Se-QDs are homogenously embedded into the carbon petals flake,which constitute the hollow polyhedral framework.This unique structure can take the advantages of both nanoscale and microscale features:Co0.85Se-QDs can expand in a multidimensional and ductile carbon matrix and reduce the K-intercalation stress in particle dimensions;the micropetals can restrain the agglomeration of active materials and promote the transportation of potassium ion and electron.In addition,the hollow carbon framework buffers volume expansion,maintains the structural integrity,and increases the electronic conductivity.Benefiting from this tertiary hierarchical structure,outstanding K-storage performance(402 mAh g?1 after 100 cycles at 50 mA g?1)is obtained when Co0.85Se-QDs/C is used as KIBs anode.More importantly,the selenization process in this work is newly reported and can be generally extended to prepare other quantum dots encapsulated in edge-limited frameworks for excellent energy storage.
