The modern Junggar Basin was located in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt(CAOB) during the Devonian and *** data concerning the weathering,provenance and tectonic setting of the Carboniferous sedimentary rocks in the Junggar Basin have been *** recent discovery of an oil-gas field in the East Junggar Basin provides the impetus for this ***-eight sediment samples were recovered from eight boreholes,and all were analysed for major and trace element *** samples of sedimentary rocks were selected for zircon U-Pb *** chemical index of alteration(CIA) values(44-71) and relatively high index of compositional variability(ICV) values(0.72-1.83) suggested weak chemical weathering and an immature source for these *** relatively low Th/U(2.16-10.55) and Rb/Sr (0.03-5.44) ratios of the drill core samples reflect a simple recycling *** samples indicated upper Carboniferous ages(314.6 Ma) and a lower-middle Devonian age(397.9 Ma).geochemistry and detrital zircon geochronology from the East Junggar Basin reveal a distinct difference in the composition and source rock ages of clastic rocks from the lower and the upper *** and trace element compositions of the lower Carboniferous sedimentary rocks(LCRs) were derived from typical mafic rocks and an intermediate ocean island arc of early to middle Devonian age,whereas the upper Carboniferous sedimentary rocks (UCRs) were derived from a continental island arc or active continental margin setting with a dominantly felsic to intermediate late Carboniferous *** current data provide little support for tectonic models that show a passive continental margin of a Precambrian crystalline basement;our study suggests that a volcanic arc accretion or archipelago(early Carboniferous to early-middle Devonian) model for the East Junggar Basin is more viable.

The Mesozoic strata of the Yanqi Basin consists of coarse debris with coal beds, characterized by the developments of coal seams of the Jurassic sediments whose main petrologic contents are glutenite, fine sandstone, mudstone, carbonaceous shale and coal. Based on the analyses of the minerals, trace elements and REEs, we try to find geochemical characteristics of the coal seam formation process. The analysis results indicate that the contents of ash and sulfur are low while the content of phosphor is comparatively high, and that the specific value of Al2O3/SiO2 is relatively high and that of (Al2O3 + SiO2)/(Fe2O3 + CaO+ MgO) is near 1. All these results indicate that the coal seams are formed in the relatively deep marsh, which is favorable for the evolvement of hydrocarbon at the diagenesis stage.

Geochemical Indication of Sinian Bedded Siliceous Rocks in the Hunan-Guizhou-Guangxi Area and Their Environmental Significance

: In the Hunan-Guizhou-Guangxi area there have developed very thick bedded siliceous rocks of the late Sinian. The rocks have a fairly pure composition, with an average content of siliceous minerals exceeding 95%. They are relatively rich in Fe and Mn, and poor in Al, Ti and Mg. The Fe/Ti, (Fe+Mn)/Ti, Al/(Al+Fe+Mn) and U/Th ratios and the Al-Fe-Mn and Fe-Mn-(Ni+Co+Cu)×10 triangle diagrams all show that they are hydrothermal sedimentary siliceous rocks. In the rocks the total amount of REEs is low, the δCe shows an obvious negative anomaly and the δEu a weak anomaly, and LREE>HREE, all indicating that they are products of hydrothermal processes. The δ30Si and δ18O values, as well as the formation temperature of the rocks all clearly show that the silica forming the rocks comes from hot water. Besides, analyses of the depositional environment of the rocks using the MnO/TiO2 ratio and the δCe and δ30Si values yield the same conclusion that they are formed in environments from continental marginal slopes of a bathyal environment to oceanic basins of a deep-sea environment.

COMRA(China Ocean Mineral Resources Association) registered pioneer area (CRPA) is located in the western part of the area between the Clarion and Clipperton Fraction Zones (CCFZs). Based on distinctive color and bio-disturbing properties, two layers are recognized in the sediment columns from the CRPA: a pale brown layer (Unit A) on the top and a dark for layer (Unit B) in the lower part. Color division between them can be explained as a hiatus. As a resu1t, the two units are different to each other in chemical composition and sediment properties. It is found that contents of P2O5, MnO2, CaO, Na2O in sediments of older Unit B are higher, but SiO2 content is slightly lower. Based on correlation analysis, Mn and Fe in the sediments have different origins. The former is mainly precipitated in authigenic process, whilst the latter is closely related to terrigenous detritus. Therefore, the differences in chemical composition of the sediments are caused by different sedimentation settings.

Northeast Junggar occupies an important position that links East Junggar and Chinese *** magmatic and sedimentary rocks of the Paleozoic in this area recorded the final amalgamation processes of East Junggar and Chinese *** study analyzes the petrological and geochemical characteristics of sandstones and mudstones from the Early Carboniferous Nanmingshui formation in Northeast *** provenance and tectonic setting of these clastic rocks are discussed,Petrography indicates that the composition and texture maturity of the sandstones are low,The components of the sandstones are mainly volcanic fragments(61-87%),feldspars(9-30%),and monocrystalline quartz(2-18%),with a few polycrystalline quartz and other *** observation indicates that the majority of the volcanic fragments of sandstones are basic-intermediate volcanic rocks with a few dacite and felsic plutonic fragments,The detrital modes of the sandstones reflect that these sandstones are derived from undissected arcs.A low to moderate chemical index of alteration and the AlO-CaO+NaO-KO diagram reflect a low to moderate weathering degree in the source *** and rare earth element(e.g.,La,Th,Hf,Sc,Cr,Co,and Eu)contents and their ratios suggest that the source rocks of the clastic rocks are intermediate-basic rocks with some felsic rocks,Compared with sandstones,the source rocks for mudstones are more *** petrography and geochemistry characteristics of the clastic rocks suggest that the proximal Dulate arc should be the primary source *** calculations based on REE data suggest that approximately two-thirds of the sandstone fragments are intermediate-basic volcanic *** contents of the major and trace elements,as well as the stratum features,of the clastic rocks manifest that these clastic rocks resemble sedimentary rocks in a back-arc *** formation of this back-arc basin is caused by the southward subduction of the Zaysan-Erqis Ocean.
