Purpose:The aim of the present study was to analyze the associations of youths' Sedentary behavior(SB) with parents' and siblings' SB and physical activity(PA),as well as the associations of youths' coparticipation with parents,siblings,and friends in PA and SB with youths' SB.Methods:The sample consisted of 1543 youths(12.02±2.51 years;788 boys) enrolled in the baseline cohort of the UP&DOWN study.SB was assessed by accelerometry and questionnaire.Participants reported the time spent by their parents and siblings watching television,playing videogames,surfing the Internet,sitting/resting,and doing PA.Further,participants reported coparticipation with parents,siblings,and friends in these activities.Linear mixed models,including school and city as random effects,were performed.Results:Parents' television time was positively associated with youths' screen-based SB.Coparticipation with friends in playing videogames(in boys) and in surfing the Internet(in girls) showed a positive association with screen-based SB and a negative association with educational-based SB.Moreover,coparticipation with siblings and friends in PA was inversely associated with accelerometer-based SB in boys and girls.Conclusion:Our results emphasize the important role of social modeling in the development of Sedentary lifestyles in youths.Interventions aimed at reducing health risk behaviors in youths could be more effective if they are oriented from a social perspective that involves their families and networks of their closest friends.

Purpose: This study aims to compare adolescents' cardiometabolic risk score through an integrative classification of physical activity(PA),which involves the combination of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) and Sedentary behavior(SB).Methods: A cross-sectional study derived from the Healthy Lifestyle in Europe by Nutrition in Adolescence Cross-Sectional Study database(2006-2008) was conducted in adolescents(n = 548; boys, 47.3%; 14.7 ± 1.2 years) from 10 European cities. MVPA and SB were objectively measured using accelerometry. Adolescents were divided into 4 categories according to MVPA(meeting or not meeting the international recommendations) and the median of SB time(above or below sex-and age-specific median) as follows: High-SB & Inactive, Low-SB & Inactive,High-SB & Active, and Low-SB & Active. A clustered cardiometabolic risk score was computed using the homeostatic model assessment, systolic blood pressure, triglycerides, total cholesterol/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, sum 4 skinfolds, and cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF).Analyses of covariance were performed to discern differences on cardiometabolic risk scores among PA categories and each health component.Results: The cardiometabolic risk score was lower in adolescents meeting the MVPA recommendation and with less time spent in SB in comparison to the high-SB & Inactive group(p < 0.05). However, no difference in cardiometabolic risk score was established between High-SB or Low-SB groups in inactive adolescents. It is important to note that CRF was the only variable that showed a significant modification(higher)when children were compared from the category of physically inactive with "active" but not from high-to low-SB.Conclusion: Being physically active is the most significant and protective outcome in adolescents to reduce cardiometabolic risk. Lower SB does not exhibit a significant and extra beneficial difference.

背景:超重和肥胖已成为世界上很多地区严重的公共健康问题。研究表明,在日常生活中做一些小的改变,诸如中断久坐(站立一会),可能有助于缓解久坐带来的健康风险。本研究旨在用人体运动能耗监测仪Acti Graph GT3X检测有久坐习惯的成年人(根据BMI分为相同的体重状况)用于站立(用计数阈值测定)、平躺和坐立(用倾角仪功能测定)的时间。方法:受试者包括22名有久坐习惯的成年人(14名男性,8名女性);平均年龄26.5±4.1岁。所有受试者均完成国际体力活动问卷(IPAQ)的自我报告,以此测定受试之前7天坐立的时间。每天坐立7 h及以上者被选取为受试者,用Acti Graph GT3X的测斜仪功能确定不同姿势。受试者须连续7天(每天24 h)携带加速器。按照BMI将受试者分类:18.5-25 kg/m2为正常,25-30 kg/m2为超重,大于30 kg/m2则为肥胖。结果:正常组(n=10)和超重组(n=6)站立的时间(在对MVPA和磨损时间进行调整后)分别为6.7 h和7.3 h,显著多于肥胖组(n=6,5.5 h);坐立时间(分别为7.1 h和6.9 h)显著少于肥胖组(8.0 h,p<0.001)。正常组和超重组站立及坐立时间均无显著差异(p=0.051,p=0.67)。3组的平躺时间也无显著差异(p=0.55)。结论:本研究描述了有久坐习惯的体重正常、超重、肥胖成年人的站立、坐立以及平躺姿势的分配情况。研究结果为通过增加站立时间防止肥胖的策略提供了新的证据。

The Relationship Between Plant Community Characteristics and Soil Organic Matter Content of Sedentary Grazing Pastures in a Typical Steppe

In order to discuss the relationship between the characteristics of plant communities and the content of topsoil organic matter under the condition of two-season Sedentary grazing, authors of this paper selected a Stipa krylovii steppe for research and studied the plant community characteristics and the topsoil organic matter content. The results showed that in the Sedentary grazing area, the perennial plant species decreased, the annual plant species increased, and the topsoil organic matter content decreased. There were a negative correlation between plant biomass and topsoil organic matter content, and a positive correlation between total coverage and topsoil organic matter content. The change of plant community characteristics in the Sedentary grazing area was related to the implementation of the system of transferring the pasture use rights to the herdsmen and controlled grazing.

Background/Objective: Very intense and repeated exercise, particularly when performed over many years, could cause respiratory health problems. The combination of a sustained high ventilation and provocative training environments may impact the susceptibility of athletes to ventilatory disorders. Previous studies suggest that impaired ventilatory function in elite athletes can be detected in the absence of respiratory symptoms even after cessation of sports activity. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ventilatory function of elite athletes compared to Sedentary subjects. Material and Methods: This study included Sedentary subjects and elite athletes, all male, aged 16 to 23 years. The athletes played regularly in the Senegalese league 1 championships (football and basketball) for at least two seasons with more than 10 hours of training per week during two years. For all participants, an interrogation was submitted and we conducted a clinic examination was performed following by a basic and post-bronchodilator spirometry. Results: The mean age of athletes (n = 66) and Sedentary subjects (n = 61) was respectively 19.16 ± 2 years and 19.54 ± 2.12 years. The elite athletes presented significantly higher spirometry values (p Conclusion: This study found a high prevalence (72.73%) of ventilatory disorders (VD) in Senegalese elite athletes. Many previously undiagnosed elite athletes had significant ventilatory problems. To prevent the respiratory risk, athletes should be encouraged to avoid certain environmental factors and to adapt the period of their training.

Objective: To study cardiovascular cardiac and echocardiographic features in high-level footballers and Sedentary women in Bamako. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Bamako from April 2015 to March 2016 among 14 to 35 years old high-level footballers and a group of untrained women. Data including socio-demographic, physical examination, ECG record and echocardiogram was inserted in Microsoft Excel and analyzed with IBM SPSS. Chi Square and Fisher statistical tests were used to compare our results. The significance level was p 0.05. Results: Forty-three female subjects, 51% being Sedentary were recruited. Mean age, weight and height were significantly higher in sportswomen than in Sedentary women with respectively p of Sedentary tachycardia in 18.2%. Left ventricular hypertrophy and dilatation and left atrial dilatation were predominant in sportswomen. Conclusion: Bradycardia, left ventricle hypertrophy and dilatation were found more in sportswomen. These changes acquired through physical training are aspects of cardiac adaptation that we found in our sample. Other aspects were not found probably due to the small size of the sample.

Exploring the impact of COVID-19 on the movement behaviors of children and youth:A scoping review of evidence after the first year

Purpose:The objective of this scoping review was to summarize systematically the available literature investigating the relationships between the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic and movement behaviors(physical activity,Sedentary behavior,and sleep)of school-aged children(aged 511 years)and youth(aged 1217 years)in the first year of the COVID-19 outbreak.Methods:Searches for published literature were conducted across 6 databases on 2 separate search dates(November 25,2020,and January 27,2021).Results were screened and extracted by 2 reviewers(DCP and KR)independently,using Covidence.Basic numeric analysis and content analysis were undertaken to present thematically the findings of included studies according to the associated impact on each movement behavior.Results:A total of 1486 records were extracted from database searches;of those,150 met inclusion criteria and were included for analysis.Of 150 articles,110 were empirical studies examining physical activity(n=77),Sedentary behavior/screen time(n=58),and sleep(n=55).Results consistently reported declines in physical-activity time,increases in screen time and total Sedentary behavior,shifts to later bed and wake times,and increases in sleep duration.The reported impacts on movement behaviors were greater for youth than for children.Conclusion:The COVID-19 pandemic is related to changes in the quantity and nature of physical activity,Sedentary behavior,and sleep among children and youth.There is an urgent need for policy makers,practitioners,and researchers to develop solutions for attenuating adverse changes in physical activity and screen time among children and youth.

The Influence of Ethnicity in the Relationship between Sedentary Screen Time and Left Ventricular Mass: Insights from the MAG-SALVAGES

Background: The influence of race/ethnicity on the relationship between Sedentary screen time and left ventricular mass has been recently suggested, but remains a subject of debate, and has never been explored in Africa. Purpose: To determine whether there is a racial/ethnic influence on the relationship between Sedentary screen time and left ventricular mass in MAGhreb and Sub Saharan Africa Left-Ventricul ArGEometry Study (MAG-SALVAGES) participants. Methods: 100 blacks sub-Saharan African and 187 white Maghreb aged 18 - 55 years underwent an interview on their behavioral measures, physical activity and eating habits. Their left ventricular mass has also been measured by a resting transthoracic echography according to the American Society of Echography. Generalized linear models evaluated a test-for-trend across higher levels of Sedentary screen time in progressive models with left ventricular measurements as dependent variables. The study population was stratified into quartiles of Sedentary screen time (separately for whites and blacks) and examined the joint association of Sedentary screen time and LVM within quartiles of physical activity. Results: Among White Maghreb, higher screen time was associated with smaller left ventricular mass (P Conclusions: Sedentary screen time is associated with smaller left ventricular mass in White Maghreb, not in black sub-Saharan African. The lack of association in blacks supports a potential qualitative difference in the cardiovascular consequences of Sedentary screen based behavior.

The Effects of Aerobic Exercise Training on Basal Metabolism and Physical Fitness in Sedentary Women

Objective: Aerobic exercises are the basic activity on fight against obesity. And obesity is related with metabolic rate. So our study is aimed to investigate the effects of 8 weeks aerobic exercise on basal metabolic rate and physical parameters. Methods: Sedentary women between the ages of 35 - 45 (n = 40) were randomized into control group (CG) (n = 20) and exercise group (EG) (n = 20). EG underwent 8 weeks of aerobic-run-walk exercise training: 3 days a week, 1 hour sessions. The CG was not trained. Basal metabolic rate (BMR), body mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR), body fat percentage (BFP), body fat mass (FM) and lean body mass (LBM) were measured for all of the subjects before and after the training program. Results: Mean BMR decreased from 1386 ± 213.6 kcal to 1327 ± 253.7 in CG, and raised from 1308 ± 201.8 to 1409 ± 218.3 kcal in EG. While BMI raised from 31.39 ± 6.15 kg/m2 to 31.51 ± 6.09 kg/m2 in CG, it decreased from 29.62 ± 3.78 kg/m2 to 28.47 ± 3.74 kg/m2 in EG. There was also statistically significant difference in parameters of WHR, BFP, FM and LBM in favour of EG (p < 0.05). Conclusion: After 8 weeks aerobic exercise training program, there was a statistically significant difference in favour of EG in BMR, BMI, BFP, FM, LBM, WHR and weight parameters.
