A tall and slender structure will have relatively large lateral deformation under the action of lateral wind load and seismic load, and the structure’s lateral stiffness is rather small, so the second-order effect should be obvious. The second-order analysis of an asymmetric and tall steel tower is introduced, and the results between this second-order analysis and its linear analysis are compared. The comparison shows that the second-order analysis is necessary and important, and at the same time it demonstrates that the design of this tower is safe.

Dear editor,Masking is generally utilized to construct the first-order protection for cryptographic algorithms,but such protected designs are still susceptible to higher-order power analysis ***-order differential power analysis (DPA)[1–4]can break first-order masking countermeasures by combining the leakages of the two secret shares into a signal that is correlated with the target intermediate variable.

Nonlinear analysis of pre-tensioned glass wall facade by stability function with initial imperfection

Pre-tensioned high strength trusses using alloy steel bar are widely used as glass wall supporting systems because of the high degree of *** breakage of glass panes in this type of system occurs occasionally,likely to be due to error in design and analysis in addition to other factors like glass impurity and stress concentration around opening in a spider *** design does not consider the flexibility of supports from finite stiffness of supporting steel or reinforced concrete *** resistance of lateral wind pressure of the system makes use of high tension force coupled with the large deflection effect,both of which are affected by many parameters not generally considered in conventional *** the design,one must therefore give a careful consideration on various effects,such as support settlement due to live loads and material creep,temperature change,pre-tension force,and wind *** is not uncommon to see many similar glass wall systems fail in the wind load test chambers under a design wind *** paper presents a rigorous analysis and design of this type of structural systems used in a project in Hong Kong,*** stability function with initial curvature is used in place of the cubic function,which is only accurate for linear *** considerations and analysis techniques are believed to be of value to engineers involved in the design of the structural systems behaving nonlinearly.

＜正＞second-order analysis as a new and robust design method has been introduced in many modern codes such as drafted LRFD（2010）,Eurocode-3（2005） and HKSC（2005） and becomes widely used in *** the traditional design method,which is based on the linearized structural response in conjunction with the effective length factor or the K-factor for stability checking,second-order or advanced analysis captures the true behavior in nonlinear range and considers the second-order effects,initial imperfections and material yielding in the process of *** to the superiority in theory,second-order analysis only needs the section design via the section capacity check rather than member design for safety and stability check and therefore avoids uncertainty in determination of effective *** change in design philosophy will likely make the traditional linear design method obsolete in the computer age *** is also noted that in last two decades many strong earthquakes occurred in the world which led to severe damage of numerous buildings and loss of thousands of *** to simplification in the linear theory,the lateral force method and model response spectrum analysis method have many limitations in seismic *** the contrary,the push-over and time history analysis,which are based on the same theoretical background as the second-order analysis,are believed to become more popular under the wide acceptance of performance-based seismic design,especially in meeting multiple performance *** this paper,the basic theoretical framework of second-order analysis for conventional structural design is briefly introduced and this method is extended to performance-based seismic design with the consideration of geometrical change and material ***,the proposed second-order/advanced analysis can be applied to seismic and non-seismic design of building structures.
