Polyoxometalate-based nanocomposites with electrocatalytic activity have been applied in hydrogen evolution reactions(HER).Seawater as the main water resource on the earth should be developed as the water electrolysis to prepare high-purity hydrogen.In this paper,we used two synthesis strategies to prepare the nanocomposite Co_(4)-POM@Co-PGDY(Co_(4)-POM:the Kegging-type microcrystals of K_(10)[Co_(4)(PW_(9)O_(3)4)2]and Co-PGDY:cobalt-porphyrin linked graphdiyne)with excellent activity for HER.Co-PGDY as the porous material is applied not only as the protection of microcrystals towards the metal ion in Seawater but also as the co-electrocatalyst of Co_(4)-POM.Co_(4)-POM@Co-PGDY exhibits excellent HER performance in Seawater electrolytes with low overpotential and high stability at high density.Moreover,we have observed a key H_(3)O+intermediate emergence on the surface of nanocomposite during hydrogen evolution process in Seawater by Raman synchrotron radiation-based Fourier transform infrared(SR-FTIR).The results in this paper provide an effective strategy for preparing polyoxometalate-based electrocatalysts with high-performance toward hydrogen evolution reaction.

Efficient capture of uranium(VI)(U(VI))from Seawater is of great significance to the sustainable development of nuclear energy and environmental protection,which is also a serious challenge at present.In this study,hollow Zn/Co zeolitic imidazolate framework(H-ZIF)was decorated on polyacrylamide/sodium alginate(PAM/SA)hydrogel by chelating and covalently crosslinking,and a new type of PAM/SA/H-ZIF hydrogel was synthesized.The combination of PAM/SA and H-ZIF gives PAM/SA/H-ZIF hydrogel excellent mechanical properties,good stability,and abundant surface functional groups,which is beneficial to improving the adsorption properties.The extraction amount of U(VI)by PAM/SA/H-ZIF is 171.14 mg·g^(-1)at C_(0)=99.52 mg·L^(-1)and pH=5.0.The adsorption equilibrium is reached in 120 min and the adsorption process fits well with Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo-second-order rate equation.The PAM/SA/H-ZIF also showed good recyclability and stability after 10 cycles of adsorption-desorption.More importantly,the rate of uranium adsorption is 0.196 mg·g^(-1)·day^(-1)after 30 days,which implies that the PAM/SA/H-ZIF could serve as a potential adsorbent for the development of uranium capture from Seawater.

Cadmium(Cd)isotopes in Seawater have been proven as an important geochemical tool for tracing ocean Cd circulation in the modern ocean.In this study,we evaluated a new method to separate Cd(*60 ng)from Seawater using Chelex resin(1.0 g)coupled with AG-MP-1M resin.The results show that the Chelex resin is suffi-cient to remove Cd from Na and Mg matrix with Cd recoveries at 98.3±3.5%(2SD,N=6);while AG-MP-1M resin could separate Cd from the residual Na,Mg,and isobaric inferences.The total Cd recoveries of the method are 96.3±1.5%(2SD;N=4)and the salinity of the samples has no significant impacts on Cd recovery.Cd isotope ratios were measured using a Nu PlasmaⅢMC-ICP-MS and^(111)Cd–^(110)Cd double spike technique.By comparing theδ^(114/110)Cd values(0.00±0.06%)of synthetic Seawaters doped with Cd isotope standard(NIST-3108;treated by Chelex+AG-MP-1M resin)and the reference value(-0.00%),no variations were observed.We also analyzed the Cd isotope compositions of three deep Seawaters from a column at the Southwest Indian Ocean Ridges(SWIR).Theδ^(114/110)Cd values of the col-umn are decreased from 1.05±0.05%at 3200 m to 0.36±0.05%at 2800 m,differing from reportedδ^(114/110)Cd values of deep Seawater in other oceans.Considering the spatial distance between the column and active hydrothermal vents in SWIR(-13 km),we propose that such positiveδ^(114/110)Cd values of deep Seawater were likely contaminated by vent fluids,which could provide heavy Cd isotope to deep Seawaters.This study demon-strates that Cd isotope is more sufficient to distinguish the impact of plumes on deep Seawater.

With the rapid increase in the demand for lithium as an energy-critical element,the recovery of Li+ions from Seawater is a worldwide challenging issue.Herein,we propose a new facile and fast selective recovery approach of Li+using an Al^(3+)-crosslinked poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAAm)/alginate(Alg)(PNP/Alg(Al)) adsorbent.The in situ TEM images indicate that Alg-Al^(3+)coordination is reorganized via the rearrangement of PNIPAAm and Alg networks,as the temperature increases.The reorganization eventually leads to the formation of polycrystalline structure.The in situ FTIR results exhibit that PNP/Alg(Al) composite has peculiar phase transitions,which includes a retrogressive phase change from hydrophobic to hydrophilic.The synergetic effect of the strong repulsion force of Al^(3+) ions and the attractive force of negatively charged polymeric chains enables the efficient adsorption of Li+ions with a low affinity from Li-spiked Seawater.7.3% of Li+ions are recovered from Li-spiked Seawater although the concentration of Li-spiked Seawater is very high.In addition,Li+ions can be extracted from PNP/Alg(Al) composite with the use of a small thermal energy.The proposed thermoresponsive IPN gel provides a strong potential in practical applications for Li+recovery as an innovative energy-material strategy.

With the resource shortage in coastal areas,the construction of concrete structures using freshwater and river sand has brought great economic and environmental costs.The use of Seawater,sea sand,and coral aggregates in concrete mixes has become an alternative solution for coastal and marine structures,especially for offshore structures and artificial islands.In this study,378 Seawater,sea sand,and coral aggregate concrete(Coral-SWSSC)specimens were prepared,and their mechanical properties were investigated comprehensively through compressive tests to explore the optimized mix design at different grades.Results showed that the mechanical properties of Coral-SWSSC were strongly correlated with the water-to-binder ratios,coastal particle gradings,and pretreatment method of coastal particles.Based on the experimental results,mix proportion designs of CoralSWSSC were proposed for concrete from C20 to C50 grades,and the failure mechanism of Coral-SWSSC at different grades was discussed according to their respective failure modes.The findings of the current study provide knowledge on the optimized design of Coral-SWSSC,which can be used to promote the application of Coral-SWSSC in offshore,marine,and ocean engineering.

Eddy current loss analysis and frequency optimization design of double-sided LCC-IPT system in Seawater environment

Inductive power transfer system can generate eddy current when operating in Seawater medium. On the one hand, it can cause eddy current loss, and reduce operating efficiency of the system. On the other hand, it can change parameters of the system and increase difficulty of system design. To grasp the influence mechanism of Seawater on the inductive power transfer system,firstly, an equivalent circuit model of double-sided inductor-capacitor-capacitor(LCC) inductive power transfer system in Seawater environment was established based on loosely-coupled transformer model of eddy current. Then, based on Maxwell’s equations, the distribution function of the magnetic field and electric current density along radium direction of the coupling coils in Seawater medium was obtained by analytical calculation. Besides, in combination with Biot-Savart law, expression of the eddy current loss in transfer direction was derived, and based on which expression of the equivalent of the eddy current loss on the coupling coils was got. Thus the equivalent resistance of the eddy current on the coupling coils in a Seawater environment could be predicated, and the optimal operating frequency of the inductive power transfer system could be further optimized. Finally, a prototype of inductive power transfer system was established, which gave the experimental results, and verified the correctness of theoretical analysis, and the experiments showed that: in air medium, the transfer distance was 100 mm, the transfer power was 3.3 k W, and the transfer efficiency was 92.6%;while, in Seawater medium, the transfer efficiency was 87%. Eddy current losses mainly caused the reduction in efficiency, and the experimental results of eddy current loss were consistent with the simulation results.

Recently increasing concerns from the scientists and public have been paid for Seawater pollution due to tetracycline(TC)overuse in maricultural area.However,there are few methods or instruments that can be used for specific and rapid detection of this antibiotic in Seawater.In this study,the colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay(CG-ICA)was used to achieve this goal.A commercialized monoclonal antibody against TC(anti-TC mAb)was selected because of its higher sensitivity(half-maximal inhibitory concentration of 2.38μgL^(-1)).The prepared CG particles(average diameter of 20 nm)were used to label anti-TC mAb at pH 8.0.The conjugate pad was formed by spraying the CG-labeled anti-TC mAb on a glass fibre membrane followed by proper dryness.The test pad was made by immobilizing artificial antigen and anti-mouse mAb in the test line and the control line,respectively,in a nitrocellulose membrane.The test strip,assembled with sample pad,conjugate pad,test pad and absorbent pad,could be used to detect TC during Seawater sample flowing through these components in turn.The results could be observed by the naked eye in 10min.The visible limit of detection(vLOD)was 20μgL^(-1) for TC in Seawater.The CG-ICA test results were in good agreement with those of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS).The assay also showed that,oxytetracycline(OTC)and chlortetracycline(CTC),as the structural analogues of TC,did not interfere with TC determination.Furthermore,the TC concentration given by test strip could not be affected by the fluctuation of temperature(10℃–30℃),pH(7–9)and salinity(0–40)of Seawater.Therefore,CG-ICA is a suitable tool for rapid,on-site,and semi-quantitative detection of TC in Seawater.

The solar H_(2)generation directly from natural Seawater is a sustainable way of green energy.However,it is limited by a low H_(2)generation rate even compared to fresh water.In this report,TiO_(2)is chosen as a model photocatalyst to disclose the critical factor to deteriorate the H_(2)generation rate from Seawater.The simulated Seawater(SSW),which is composed of eight ions(Na^(+),K^(+),Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),Cl^(−),Br^(−),SO_(4)^(2−),and CO_(3)^(2−)),is investigated the effect of each ion on the H_(2)production.The results indicate that all ions have a negative effect at the same concentration as in the Seawater except Br−.The CO_(3)^(2−)has the most serious deterioration,and the H_(2)production rate lowers near 40%even at[CO_(3)^(2−)]of 1.5 mmol·L^(−1).The H_(2)production rate can be recovered to 85%if the CO_(3)^(2−)is excluded from the SSW.To understand the reason,the zeta potential of the TiO_(2)treated with different ions aqueous solution reveals that the zeta potential decreases when it is treated with CO_(3)^(2−)and SO_(4)^(2−)due to they can adsorb on the surface of TiO_(2)nanoparticles.Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)and thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectroscopy(TGA-MS)further confirm that the adsorbed ion is mainly from CO_(3)^(2−).Since the pH of Seawater is about 8.9 between pKa1(6.37)and pKa2(10.3)of H_(2)CO3,the CO_(3)^(2−)should exist in the form of HCO3−in the Seawater.We proposed a simple method to remove the adsorbed HCO3−from the TiO_(2)surface by adjusting the pH below the pKa1.The results indicate that if a trace amount of HCl(adjusting pH~6.0)is added to the SSW,the H_(2)production rate can be recovered to 85%of that in pure water.

A thorough understanding of the biogeochemical cycling of trace metals in the ocean is crucial because of the important role these elements play in regulating metabolism in marine biotas and thus,the climate.However,a precise and accurate analysis of trace metals in Seawater is difficult because they are present at extremely low concentrations in a high salt matrix.In this study,we report an analytical method for the preconcentration and separation of six trace metals,Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,Cd and Pb,in Seawater using a sea FAST automatic solid-phase extraction device,analysis by a triple quadrupole collision/reaction technique with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS),and quantification by the isotope dilution technique.A small volume(10 m L)of Seawater sample was mixed with a multi-element isotope spike and subjected to sea FAST procedures.The preconcentrate solution was then analyzed using the optimized collision/reaction cell mode of ICP-MS,with NH_(3)gas for Fe and Cd with a flow rate of 0.22 m L/min and He for Ni,Cu,Zn and Pb with a flow rate of 4.0 m L/min.The procedure blanks were 130 pmol/L,3.0 pmol/L,6.8 pmol/L,37 pmol/L,0.29 pmol/L and 0.42 pmol/L,for Fe,Ni,Cu,Zn,Cd and Pb,respectively.The method was validated using five reference materials(SLRs-6,SLEW-3,CASS-6,NASS-7 and GEOTRACE-GSC),and our results were consistent with the consensus values.The method was further validated by measuring full-water-column Seawater samples from the subtropical Northwest Pacific Ocean,and our results demonstrated good oceanic consistency.

The use of enriched uranium(^(235)U)in nuclear fission reactors allows electricity generation with negligible CO_(2) emissions.Thus,nuclear energy is expected to play an important role in global efforts to decarbonize the energy sector[1].To meet the energy needs of future societies and achieve zero-emissions targets,more nuclear reactors will be needed,which increases demand for uranium fuel.
