Starch-based adhesive hydrogel with gel-point viscoelastic behavior and its application in wound Sealing and hemostasis

Hydrogels with tissue adhesiveness have demonstrated great promise for wearable electronics,artificial skin,soft robotics,and tissue repair.Nevertheless,adhesive hydrogels that are capable of Sealing and hemostasis of wound with severe hemorrhage still lack.For this purpose,a series of ionically crosslinked starch hydrogels were developed here.The viscoelastic properties and tissue adhesiveness of the starch hydrogels were investigated.It is shown that the starch and cross linkers had significant influence on the viscoelastic properties of the starch hydrogels,which further resulted in varied tissue adhesiveness.Among the starch gels,there was one exhibiting a unique and stable"Gel Point"viscoelastic characteristic and it was named as gel-point adhesive hydrogel(GPAH).GPAH showed electrical conductivity,high tissue adhesiveness,high stretch-ability,self-healing capability,injectability,and degradability.The GPAH also exhibited high cytocompatibility,low hemolysis risk,and strong antibacterial effect.The wound Sealing and hemostatic performance of GPAH was further evaluated by a rat femoral artery injury model.The blood loss after the Sealing of GPAH(2.4±1.3 g)was significantly decreased compared to the group using gauze for Sealing(6.3±1.5 g).Meanwhile,GPAH did not cause pathological changes of the soft tissues surrounding the wound.The above results indicate that GPAH,with high tissue adhesiveness,suitable viscoelastic property,strong antibacterial capacity,as well as electro-conductivity,bears great potential for the applications in smart wound management.

To solve the existing problems of imperfect Sealing and the inaccurate measurement of gas pressure in traditional Sealing,the present study builds a new model of capsule-slime Sealing device based on wireless pressure gauge.The new Sealing device is mainly composed of two sets of capsules,a capsule connecting piece and a slime part,measures the pressure through the wireless communication technology,and seals through chemical reaction in the capsule,which generates gas to expand the capsule and extrude the pre-stored slime.Two methods of extruding pre-stored slime are proposed:in the first method,transverse force is generated by the expansion of the capsules at both ends,pushing the capsules toward the middle through the chute and squeezing the pre-stored slime out;in the second,high-pressure gas generated in the capsules is led into the expansion tube,which is inserted into the storage tube,squeezing it and letting the slime out to complete the Sealing process.Then the research studies the effect of Sealing under the condition of drilling with the structure of slime storage tube.The results indicate that the maximum standing time of slime wrapped in metal net is 2 h,instead of the expected 10 d,failing to meet the Sealing requirements.When the slime viscosity is 1200–3000 m Paás in the structure of slime storage tube,the best viscosity of slime is achieved and can simulate Sealing the drilling hole(5–4,4–2.36,2.36–1.18,1.18–0.15 mm in diameter),as well as the gap caused by mixed sand accumulation.

Taking the combustor composite structure of a high-strength diesel engine as the main research object,dedicated tests have been conducted to verify the accuracy of three distinct cylinder gasket pressure simulation models.Using the measured cylinder gasket compression rebound curve,a gasket unit has been designed and manufactured.For this unit,the influence of the bolt pretension,cylinder body and cylinder head material on gasket sealing pressure has been investigated systematically in conditions of thermo-mechanical coupling.The results show that the bolt pretension force is one of the most important factors affecting the cylinder gasket Sealing pressure.The change of the body material has little effect on this pressure.The cylinder gasket seal pressure decreases progressively with the reduction of the elastic module of the cylinder head material.

Anodic oxidation is a prevalent technique to introduce superior corrosion and wear resistance upon the surface of titanium(Ti)alloys,in which the selection of appropriate electrolytes and defect-Sealing strategies is a key.This study aims to address such issues through anodizing Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy in malic acid,followed by a post-Sealing treatment with Mg-Al layered double hydroxides(LDHs).The characteristics of the samples were investigated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy(GDOES),X-ray diffraction(XRD)and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS).SEM micrographs reveals that the anodic coating had a surface full of bulges and cracks,and was almost sealed by the following LDHs treatment.XRD pattern indicate that the anodic coating was mainly consisted of amorphous TiO2 with a small fraction of anatase,but its crystallization degree was increased through the post-Sealing.Moreover,electrochemical and tribological measurements demonstrate that corrosion current density was 2.8×10-6,2.0×10-7,5.9×10-9A cm-2,and wear rate was 1.45×10-3,1.30×10-4 and 6.90×10-5 mm3 N-1 m-1 for respective bare Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al alloy substrate,anodized specimens without and with the LDHs post treatment.Finally,a plausible wear mechanism was proposed.

Sealing reliability modeling of aviation seal based on interval uncertainty method and multidimensional response surface

Many variables affect the Sealing performance, and their distribution characteristics are difficult to obtain with probabilistic methods owing to the high cost involved. Numerous problems in engineering are similar due to the appearance of small-sample parameters. In this study, the Sealing reliability of an aviation seal was defined as the research object, and an interval uncertainty method and multidimensional response surface were proposed to calculate the Sealing reliability.Based on this, we first analyzed the failure mechanism of the aviation seal and established a leakage rate model. Then, based on the non-probabilistic interval model, an interval uncertainty method was proposed to construct the analytical model. With reference to the limit state equation from the structural reliability theory, the multidimensional response surface was used for fast calculation.Then, we chose the single-cylinder gas steering gear used in aircraft as the case study, its Sealing reliability in working and non-working statuses were calculated, and the results were verified with the actual maintenance records. By analyzing the sensitivity of some variables, we can improve the Sealing reliability of the aviation seal by improving the surface roughness only if the cost allows.Finally, we consider that the method proposed in this study realizes the application of smallsample uncertainty analysis in reliability analysis, and could provide a feasible way to solve the similar problems in engineering with multidimensional and small-sample parameters.

Vacuum Sealing drainage (VSD) is frequently used in abdominal surgeries. However, relevant guidelines are rare. Chin ese Trauma Surge on Associati on orga nized a committee composed of 28 experts across China in July 2017, aiming to provide an evidence-based recommendation for the application of VSD in abdominal surgeries.Eleven questions regarding the use of VSD in abdominal surgeries were addressed:(1) which type of materials should be respectively chosen for the intraperitoneal cavity, retroperitoneal cavity and superficial incisions?(2) Can VSD be preventively used for a high-risk abdominal incision w让h primary suture?(3) Can VSD be used in severely contaminated/infected abdominal surgical sites?(4) Can VSD be used for temporary abdominal cavity closure under some special conditions such as severe abdominal trauma, infection, liver transplantation and intra-abdominal volume increment in abdominal compartment syndrome?(5) Can VSD be used in abdominal organ inflammation, injury, or postoperative drainage?(6) Can VSD be used in the treatment of intestinal fistula and pancreatic fistula?(7) Can VSD be used in the treatment of intra-abdominal and extra-peritoneal abscess?(8) Can VSD be used in the treatment of abdominal wall wounds, wound cavity, and defects?(9) Does VSD in crease the risk of bleeding?(10) Does VSD increase the risk of intestinal wail injury?(11) Does VSD increase the risk of peritoneal adhesion? Focusing on these questions, evidence-based recommendations were given accordingly. VSD was strongly recommended regarding the questions 2-4. Weak recommendations were made regarding questions 1 and 5-11. Proper use of VSD in abdominal surgeries can lower the risk of infection in abdominal incisions with primary suture, treat severely contaminated/infected surgical sites and facilitate temporary abdominal cavity closure.

Gob-side entry driving can increase coal recovery ratio, and it is implied in many coal mines. Based on geological condition of 10416 working face tailentry in Yangliu Coal Mine, the surrounding rock deformation characteristics of gob-side entry driving with narrow coal pillar is analysed, reasonable size of coal pillar and reasonable roadway excavation time after mining are achieved. Surrounding rock control technology and effective roadway side Sealing technology are proposed and are taken into field practice. The results showed that a safer and more efficient mining of working face can be achieved. In addition, results of this paper also have important theoretical significance and valuable reference for surrounding rock control technology of gob-side entry driving with narrow coal pillar under special geological condition.

Compressive and Sealing characteristics of PTFE under cyclic loading-unloading at room temperature are studied in order to evaluate the cyclic Sealing performance of control valve comprehensively. The unloading characteristics are different from the loading ones, therefore there is hysteresis between the unloading and loading curves. Compressive hysteresis is the main factor that causes Sealing hysteresis. The leakage rate of PTFE complies with the power law before it enters the relatively stable region. Lastly, the effect of working pressure on the compressive and Sealing characteristics is discussed. The experimental results show that the working pressure has little effect on compressive deformation but has a great influence on leakage rate.

It is difficult to find the projectile when people want to get the penetration data in a hard recovery method,so a recovery system of penetration data is designed based on an ejection mode from the projectile base and a method of wired transmission,at the same time,the system was sealed with a designed Sealing device,the working principle of which was introduced.Using Fluent as the simulation platform,the transient pressure of seal cavity was simulated based on the change of chamber pressure,and steady-state pressure of seal clearance and seal cavity were simulated based on the maximum chamber pressure.The Sealing performance was tested by apressure test system.The results of simulation and experiment show that the maximum pressure of seal cavity is 139.4kPa when the maximum chamber pressure is 242.9MPa and the maximum temperature of gunpowder explosive gas is2 166.5K,so the Sealing performance can be assured.The Sealing device can be taken as a reference in Sealing research on gunpowder gas at the bottom of projection.
