On Apr.15th,2024,National Medical Products Administration released a popular science article about using sunscreen“spray”cosmetics safely,reminding consumers to care about how to use sunscreen“spray”cosmetics correctly.According to the article,common sunscreen“spray”in the market can be divided into spray type and aerosol type,and incorrect use of them will cause the risk of inhalation or flammability.To use sunscreen“spray”cosmetics correctly,one should try to avoid inhaling“spray”;put the sunscreen“spray”in a cool,dry and ventilated environment not exposed to direct sunlight,and avoid using them on wounds,redness&swelling,eczema or other abnormal places of the skin.

Wet chemistry methods,including hot-injection and precipitation methods,have emerged as major synthetic routes for high-quality perovskite nanocrystals in backlit display and scintillation applications.However,low chemical yield hinders their upscale production for practical use.Meanwhile,the labile nature of halide-based perovskite poses a major challenge for long-term storage of perovskite nanocrystals.Herein,we report a green synthesis at room temperature for gram-scale production of CsPbBr3 nanosheets with minimum use of solvent,saving over 95% of the solvent for the unity mass nanocrystal production.The perovskite colloid exhibits record stability upon long-term storage for up to 8 months,preserving a photoluminescence quantum yield of 63% in solid state.Importantly,the colloidal nanosheets show self-assembly behavior upon slow solidification,generating a crack-free thin film in a large area.The uniform film was then demonstrated as an efficient scintillation screen for X-ray imaging.Our findings bring a scalable tool for synthesis of high-quality perovskite nanocrystals,which may inspire the industrial optoelectronic application of large-area perovskite film.

In the Drosophila ovary, escort cells (ECs) extrinsically control germline stem cell (GSC) maintenance and progeny differentiation. However, the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study,we identified 173 EC genes for their roles in controlling GSC maintenance and progeny differentiation by using an in vivo systematic RNAi approach. Of the identified genes, 10 and 163 are required in ECs to promote GSC maintenance and progeny differentiation, respectively. The genes required for progeny differentiation fall into different functional categories, including transcription, mRNA splicing, protein degradation, signal transduction and cytoskeleton regulation. In addition, the GSC progeny differentiation defects caused by defective ECs are often associated with BMP signaling elevation, indicating that preventing BMP signaling is a general functional feature of the differentiation niche. Lastly, exon junction complex (EJC) components, which are essential for mRNA splicing, are required in ECs to promote GSC progeny differentiation by maintaining ECs and preventing BMP signaling. Therefore, this study has identified the major regulators of the differentiation niche, which provides important insights into how stem cell progeny differentiation is extrinsically controlled.

Enhancers are critical cis-regulatory elements that regulate spatiotemporal gene expression and control cell fates.However,the identification of enhancers in native cellular contexts still remains a challenge.Here,we develop an inducible CRISPR activation(CRISPRa)system by transgenic expression of doxycycline(Dox)-inducible dCas9-VPR in mouse embryonic stem cells(iVPR ESC).With this line,a simple introduction of specific guide RNAs targeting promoters or enhancers allows us to realize the effect of CRISPRa in an inducible,reversible,and Dox concentration-dependent manner.Taking advantage of this system,we induce tiled CRISPRa across genomic regions(105 kilobases)surrounding T(Brachyury),one of the key mesodermal development regulator genes.Moreover,we identify several CRISPRa-responsive elements with chromatin features of putative enhancers,including a region the homologous sequence in which humans harbors a body height risk variant.Genetic deletion of this region in ESC does affect subsequent T gene activation and osteogenic differentiation.Therefore,our inducible CRISPRa ESC line provides a convenient platform for high-throughput screens of putative enhancers.

A 13-year-old boy presented with a 1-week history of hair loss on the scalp.Physical examination revealed linear alopecia with the normal scalp(Fig.1a).Trichoscopy examination revealed irregular black dots,flame hair,and V sign(Fig.1b).After a detailed inquiry,the patient finally admitted that he had pulled his hair down every night.The boy was then referred to the Psychology Clinic of the hospital.In the psychiatry visit,psychological scales(Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive–Compulsive Scale,screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders,Depression Self-Rating Scale for Children and Child Behavior Checklist)indicated a high level of anxiety due to isolation during the COVID-19 epidemic.A diagnosis of trichotillomania was made.Trichotillomania is a compulsive desire or habit to pluck the hair,which is frequently associated with anxiety or depression[1].Pathulos et al.reported that the COVID-19 pandemic led to hair-pulling symptoms increased in the patients with the body-focused repetitive behaviors that include trichotillomania,nail biting,and skin picking[2].In additional,three cases of trichotillomania in children were reported which might be induced by bored mental,because the schools closed in the COVID-19 outbreak[3].In our case,long-time separation from parents and lack of outdoor activity during the COVID-19 pandemic could be the cause.After 4 weeks of behavior modification therapy in the Psychology Clinic,the patient’s alopecia achieved full remission(Fig.1c).We also summarize detailed psychological assessment scores before and after interventions in Table 1.This case reminded us that more attention should be paid to the mental health of children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a recent study published in Nature,1 Aguilar et al.describe the small molecule X1 that targets the long non-coding RNA Xist.Upon X1 binding,Xist changes its structure,which prevents its role in X-chromosome inactivation(XCI).The vast majority of small molecule screens in drug discovery focus on targeting proteins.2,3 However,protein coding sequences merely constitute~1.5%of the human genome and only a small fraction of these proteins are currently targetable.2 In contrast,90%of the human genome is transcribed into RNA in different forms,which makes RNAs compelling targets for small molecule drugs.3 Modulating mRNAs with small molecules could be an alternative route to change the levels of the corresponding protein products and their activities,especially for currently undruggable proteins.Considering the diverse functions carried out by different classes of RNAs in cells,altering RNAs would provide a broad range of potential drug targets in the human genome.While modulating RNAs with small molecules carries a number of advantages,identifying RNA-targeting small molecules has proven difficult;previous compounds had been identified indirectly by phenotypic screens.1–3 Systematic approaches to screen for RNAtargeting compounds had been lacking.

Background This study aimed to assess the socioeconomic inequality and determinants of screen time (ST) frequency in Iranian children and adolescents. Methods This nationwide study was conducted as part of a national school-based surveillance program among 36,486 students consisting of 50.79% boys and 74.23% urban inhabitants, aged 6–18 years, living in urban and rural areas of 30 provinces of Iran. Socioeconomic inequality in ST, including the time spent for ST, watching TV and leisure-time work-ing with computer, was assessed across quintiles of SES using concentration index (C) and slope index of inequality (SII). Results Overall, 36,486 students completed the study (response rate 91.25%). Their mean (SD) age was 12.14 (3.36) years. The national estimation of frequency of ST was 31.66% (95% CI 31.16–32.17) with ascending change from 20.80% (95% CI 19.81–21.82) to 36.66% (95% CI 35.47–37.87) from the first to the last quintal of SES. EstimatedC value at national level was positive (0.08), which indicate inequality was in favor of low SES groups. Considering the SII values, at national level [? 0.16 (? 0.39, 0.06)], the absolute difference in ST frequency between the bottom and top of the socioeconomic groups had descending trends. In multivariate logistic regression model, family history of obesity, generalized obesity and age were the main significant determinants of prolonged ST, watching TV, and computer working (P < 0.001). Conclusions Socioeconomic inequality in ST frequency was in favor of low SES groups. These findings are useful for health policies, better programming and future complementary analyses.

Objective:To evaluate the contribution of poses screen pre-impregnated(PSP) installed at openings and eaves of dwellings in the reduction of malaria transmission in the commune of Aguegues in Benin.Methods:The PSP were manufactured from preimpregnated Olyset Net.They were installed at windows,eaves and doors of 70 dwellings.320 children aged 6-59 months were treated and 311 children were recruited in the control zone.Variables measured are:plasmodic index(IP),gametoeyte index,parasite density(PD),fever,hemoglobin,anemia. Results:The global IP was 16.62%with PSP and 72.20%without PSP.Gametoeyte index did not differ significantly between the treated zone(27.8) and the control zone(29.1).The total geometric mean of DP was 309 in the treated zone and 600 in the control zone.Hemoglobin level is 8.7 in the control zone and 9.5 in the treated zone.We noted a predominance of anemia in the control zone compared to the treated zone.Conclusions:The PSP have contributed to a significant reduction in morbidity in the commune of Aguegues.

Voltammetric determination of venlafaxine as an antidepressant drug employing Gd_2O_3 nanoparticles graphite screen printed electrode

Graphite screen printed electrode modified with Gd_2 O_3 nanoparticles(Gd_2 O_3/SPE) was developed for the determination of venlafaxine(VF). The Gd_2 O_3 nanoparticles were thoroughly characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analyses. To study the electrochemical behaviour of venlafaxine cyclic voltammetry(CV), chronoamperometry(CHA)and differential pulse voltammetry(DPV) were employed. These studies reveal that the oxidation of venlafaxine is facilitated at Gd_2 O_3/SPE. After optimization of analytical conditions, analysis of venlafaxine using the modified electrode in 0.1 mol/L PBS(pH 7.0) demonstrates that the peak currents corresponding to venlafaxine vary linearly with its concentration in the range of 5.0 ×10^(-6)-9.0 × 10^(-4) mol/L. The detection limit(S/N = 3) of 2.1 × 10^(-7) mol/L is obtained for venlafaxine using DPV. The prepared modified electrode benefits from advantages such as simple preparation method, high sensitivity and low detection limit.Moreover, the evaluation of practical applicability of this proposed method is successful in the identification of venlafaxine in pharmaceutical formulations, urine and water samples.

Complicated motion of particles on vibration screen surface

The particles’ motion on screen surface was studied by the way of nonlinear dynamics. It was found that the particles’ motion may be changed from one form to another with its vibration strength. When the vibration strength K is bigger than 1 and smaller than 1. 33, the particles’ motion is the bifurcating type;when K is bigger than 1. 33 and smaller than 1. 67, its motion becomes the double bifurcation type; when K is bigger than 1. 67, its motion changes into chaos motion type. On basis of studying all effects of large vibration strength on particles penetrating, it was pointed out that a larger vibration strength K of screen surface will increase the strength of particles’ motion, and then increase their probability of penetrating screen surface. A primary theory of particles’ motion under large vibration strength for moisture fine coal was established.
