Potential function and complex function in the elliptic coordinate system are employed to solve the problem of scattering harmonic SH waves by multiple elliptic cavities in water saturated soil *** steady state Biot’s dynamic equations of poroelasticity are uncoupled into Helmholtz equations via given potentials. The stresses and pore water pressures are obtained by using complex functions in elliptic coordinates with certain boundary ***,the dynamic stresses for the case of two interacting elliptic cavities are obtained and discussed in details via a numerical example.

This paper presents analytical solutions for one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of saturated multi-layered soil under time-dependent *** solutions are derived for one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of multi-layered soil subjected to constant loading and ramp *** proposed solutions are verified through the comparison with the existing solutions for double-layered soil and singlelayered soil,which shows the proposed solutions are more general ones for one-dimensional nonlinear consolidation of saturated soils subjected to time-dependent *** on the proposed solutions,nonlinear consolidation behavior of saturated multi-layered soil under time-dependent loading is investigated.

Propagation of plane wave in non-homogeneously saturated soils

Based on Biot's model for fluid-saturated media,which takes the inertial,fluid viscous,mechanical couplings,compressibility of grains and fluid into account,the dispersion equations of plane waves in non-homogeneously saturated soil are established by using reverberation ray matrix method(RRMM) with the aid of Helmholtz *** non-homogeneity considered is a gradient variation in material properties with *** propagation characteristic of elastic waves in non-homogeneously saturated soil is analyzed by numerical example in this *** results show that the wave number and dissipation change little for two kinds of compression along the variation direction of the material properties,however,the non-homogeneity has significant effect on the wave number and dissipation of shear wave.

scattering and refracting of plane strain wave by a cylindrical inclusion in fluidsaturated soils

The problems involving scattering and refracting of plane strain wave by a cylinder in fluidsaturated soils are studied in this paper. The theoretical solutions for the amplitudes of scattering and refracting are derived on the basis of modified Biot′s theory for twophase medium in engineering, in which the compressibility of soil grains and the viscous coupling effect between the skeletal frame and the pore fluid are taken into account. Moreover, the amplitude equations of potential function are presented when the fluidsaturated soil cylindrical inclusion is degenerated into cylindrical cavity, rigid cylinder, single phase elastic cylinder and single phase fluid cylinder.

Uncertainty assessment in hydro-mechanical-coupled analysis of saturated porous medium applying fuzzy finite element method

The purpose of the present study was to develop a fuzzy finite element method,for uncertainty quantification of saturated soil properties on dynamic response of porous media,and also to discrete the coupled dynamic equations known as u-p hydro-mechanical *** parameters included fuzzy numbers of Poisson's ratio,Young's modulus,and permeability coefficient as uncertain material of soil *** membership functions were applied to obtain the intervals of input parameters in five membership grades,followed up by a minute examination of the effects of input parameters uncertainty on dynamic behavior of porous *** were for the optimized combinations of upper and lower bounds of input parameters to reveal soil response including displacement and pore water pressure via fuzzy *** analysis procedure was verified,and several numerical examples were analyzed by the developed method,including a dynamic analysis of elastic soil column and elastic foundation under ramp *** indicated that the range of calculated displacements and pore pressure were dependent upon the number of fuzzy parameters and uncertainty of parameters within ***,it was revealed that for the input variations looser sands were more sensitive than dense ones.

Evolutions of Compaction Bands of saturated soils

The development of compaction bands in saturated soils, which is coupling-rate, inertial and pore-pressure-dependent, under axisymmetric loading was discussed, using a simple model and a matching technique at the moving boundary of a band. It is shown that the development of compaction bands is dominated by the coupling-rate and pore-pressure effects of material. The soil strength makes the band shrinking, whilst pore pressure diffusion makes the band expand. Numerical simulations were carried out in this paper.

Torsional vibrations of a cylindrical foundation embedded in a saturated poroelastic half-space

Considering the interactions between an embedded foundation and saturated soil, the torsional vibrations of a cylindrical foundation embedded in a saturated poroelastic medium are analyzed in this paper. Both a rigid foundation and an elastic foundation are considered. Assuming both the side surface and the bottom surface of the foundation are perfectly bonded to soil, the reaction torques that the side soil and bottom soil acting on the foundation can be gained from basic dynamic equations of the poroelastic medium. According to the dynamic equilibrium equations of a foundation under harmonic torque, the torsional vibrations of an embedded cylindrical foundation are presented. Besides, the angular amplitude of the foundation, the equivalent stiffness and damping coefficients of the soil are expressed explicitly. Selected examples are presented to investigate the influence of relevant parameters on the torsional vibrations.
