Active exploratory behaviors have often been associated with theta oscillations in rodents,while theta oscillations during active exploration in non-human primates are still not well *** recorded neural activities in the frontal eye field(FEF)and V4 simultaneously when monkeys performed a free-gaze visual search *** were strongly phase-locked to theta oscillations of V4 and FEF local field potentials,and the phase-locking was dependent on saccade *** spiking probability of V4 and FEF units was significantly modulated by the theta phase in addition to the time-locked modulation associated with the evoked response.V4 and FEF units showed significantly stronger responses following saccades initiated at their preferred *** causality and ridge regression analysis showed modulatory effects of theta oscillations on saccade ***,our study suggests phase-locking of saccades to the theta modulation of neural activity in visual and oculomotor cortical areas,in addition to the theta phase locking caused by saccade-triggered responses.

Objective:saccades accompanied by normal gain in video head impulse tests(vHIT)are often observed in patients with vestibular migraine(VM).However,they are not considered as an independent indicator,reducing their utility in diagnosing *** better understand clinical features of VM,it is necessary to understand raw saccades ***:Fourteen patients with confirmed VM,45 patients with probable VM(p-VM)and 14 agematched healthy volunteers were included in this *** findings related to spontaneous nystagmus(SN),positional nystagmus(PN),head-shaking nystagmus(HSN),caloric test and vHIT were *** saccades data were exported and numbered by their sequences,and their features ***:VM patients showed no SN,PN or HSN,and less than half of them showed unilateral weakness(UW)on caloric *** first saccades from lateral semicircular canal stimulation were the most predominant for both left and right *** velocity nor time parameters were significantly different when compared between the two *** VM patients(86%)exhibited small saccades,around 35%of the head peak velocity,with a latency of 200e400 *** of saccades were similar in patients with *** four normal subjects showed saccades,all unilateral and seemingly ***:Small saccades involving bilateral semicircular canals with a scattered distribution pattern are common in patients with VM and p-VM.

＜正＞When human and non-human primates perform visually guided saccadic eye movements,the reaction time （latency） of saccades are bimodal,sometimes even multi-modal,*** the identical visual condition,in some trials saccadic eye movements execute with very short latency（about 100ms）,so called express saccades,whereas others with longer latency（about 300ms）,so called regular *** condition if the fixation point disappears shortly（100- 200ms） before the saccadic target onset（gap task）,the number of express saccades increase *** these phenomenons have been noticed more than 30 years,the underlying neuronal mechanism is not well *** researchers believe that there are different neuronal networks in controlling express saccades and regular saccades. However,controversial evidences existed which indicate that the express saccade is just the consequence of the order of visual stimulus *** and electronic micro-stimulation studies in monkey revealed that superior colliculus （SC） played a crucial role in initiating express *** the present study,we systematically studied the neuronal control of saccadic eye movements in human in five *** experiment 1,we found that the luminance of visual target didn’t change the percentage ratio of express *** the lower contrast stimulus increased the saccadic latency in general,the bimodal distribution remained unchanged;In experiment 2,result showed that the isoluminant chromatic stimulus was able to elicit express saccade,and the express saccade ratio is similar to those elicited by luminous target;In experiment 3,saccadic target was defined by moving dots that were popped out from background by motion. Purpose. To investigate the peak latency of the orbital presaccadic spike potential (SP) with horizontal eye movement in ***. Orbital SP was recorded in 28 normal subjects from 8 electrodes around the eyes with Pz as the reference while performing 5°, 10°, 20°, 30° and 40°horizontal saccades to visual targets. SP peak latency was measured from SP onset to SP peak on averaged data aligned on SP ***. Significant main effects on SP peak latency are found for saccade size (saccade direction (P0. 05). SP peak latency increases with increasing saccade size from 5°to 40°. SP peak latency is longer with saccades back to center than away from center, and with abducting saccades than with adducting saccades. SP peak latency differs at the electrode sites with an order from shorter to longer as follows: inner canthus (IC); inferior orbit (IO): outer canthus (OC); superior orbit (SO).Conclusicos. The effects on the peak latency of orbital SP can be explained by the saccade dynamic property, volume conduction as well as physiologic and anatomic factors of the eyes and orbits. The peak latency of orbital SP can be used to reflect the temporal characteristics of ocular motor units controlling saccadic eye movement.

＜正＞Besides the roles in sensory processing,the thalamus also plays a role in motor *** nuclei in the thalamus transmit signals from the brainstem,the basal ganglia and the cerebellum to the movement-related areas in the cerebral cortex,including the frontal eye field and the supplementary eye *** ocular motor control,these thalamocortical pathways have been viewed as feedback pathways that relay corollary discharge signals for the on-line monitoring of eye ***,more recent studies suggest that the ascending pathways through the thalamus are also important for the planning and generation of volitional eye *** example,we recently found that the time course of neuronal activity in the ventrolateral thalamus of monkeys predict the timing of self-initiated saccadic eye *** of these neurons did not alter externally triggered,visually-guided saccades,but delayed the initiation of self-timed,memory-guided *** results suggest that signals in the thalamus plays a role in saccade generation,in particular,when both goals and timing of saccades were internally *** signals through the thalamus that increase over time might assist preparatory processes in the cerebral cortex,thereby regulating the timing of self-initiated *** evidence for the thalamic involvement in saccade generation came from the neuronal analysis during *** monkeys were required to suppress saccade to the peripheral visual stimuli （pro-saccade） and instead to make a saccade in the opposite direction（anti-saccade）,many thalamic neurons exhibited greater activity as compared with *** addition,inactivation of the ventrolateral thalamus increased the number of error trials in the anti-saccade task but not in the pro-saccade ***,these results suggest that signals through the motor thalamus might be essential for the volitional control of eye movements,while those pathways do

The space-time distortion perceived subjectively during saccadic eye movements is an associative phenomenon of a transient shift of observer’s visual frame of reference from one position to another. Here we report that the lines of subjective simultaneity defined as two spatially separated flashes perceived during saccades were nearly uniformly tilted along the physical time-course. The causality of the resulting space-time compression may be explained by the Minkowski space-time diagram in physics.

We constructed a two layer network model to study the effect of electromagnetic radiation on the cognitive functions. The network model was used to simulate two cognitive tasks under the electromagnetic radiation: the visual guided saccade task and the memory guided saccade task. The performance of these tasks showed that the electromagnetic radiation could induce faster ramping up activities, higher level of persistent activities and shorter reaction time, but the basic functions of the network such as working memory and motor output did not impaired. We found that the electromagnetic radiation have both excitatory effect and inhibitory effect on the neuronal activities of the network model, but the excitatory effect played a major role. Finally, we concluded an excitatory mechanism to explain the effects of the electromagnetic radiation on the cognitive performance.

Background:Cognitive control is defined as the ability to act flexibly in the environment by either behaving automatically or inhibiting said automatic behaviour and it can be measured using an interleaved pro/anti-saccade *** in cognitive control has been attributed to normal aging and neurological illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease(PD)as well as decline in other cognitive *** parallel might highlight the role played by cognitive control in information processing and working ***,little is known about the relationship between cognitive control and other cognitive processes such as visual memory,decision making,and visual *** thus propose to correlate the incidence of impaired cognitive control with deficits in visual memory,decision making and visual search in three groups:younger adults,older adults and patients with idiopathic ***:Seventy-one participants,namely 34 adults(M=22.75,SD=3.8),22 older adults(M=67.4,SD=8.3),and 20 PD patients(M=65.59,SD=8.2)performed four tasks:interleaved pro/anti-saccade,visual memory,decision making,and serial and pop-out visual ***:Results show that within each group,anti-saccade error rate(ER)were significantly and negatively correlated with visual memory ER(ryounger=−0.378,P=0.036;rolder=−0.440,Polder=0.046;rPD=−0.609,P=0.016).On the other hand,correct decision-making reaction times(RT)were significantly correlated with anti-saccade ER,and RTs only in older adults(rER=0.529,P=0.014;rRT=0.512,P=0.018)and PD patients(rER=0.727,P=0.012;rRT=0.769,P=0.001).For visual search,PD patients showed a significant relationship between RTs for correct pro-saccades and pop-out(r=0.665,P=0.007),and serial(r=0.641,P=0.010)search ***,there was a significant correlation between MoCA scores and anti-saccade RTs(r=−0.559,P=0.030)and ER(r=−0.562,P=0.029)in PD *** together,these results support the hypothesis of PD patients’reliance on bottom-up processes as top-down proces
