Developmental staging of male murine embryonic gonad by sage analysis

Despite the identification of key genes such as Sry integral to embryonic gonadal development, the genomic classification and identification of chromosomal activation of this process is still poorly understood. To better understand the genetic regulation of gonadal development, we performed Serial Analysis of Gene Expression （sage） to profile the genes and novel transcripts, and an average of 152,000 tags from male embryonic gonads at E10.5 （embryonic day 10.5）, E11.5, E12.5, E13.5, E15.5 and E17.5 were analyzed. A total of 275,583 non-singleton tags that do not map to any annotated sequence were identified in the six gonad libraries, and 47,255 tags were mapped to 24,975 annotated sequences, among which 987 sequences were uncharacterized. Utilizing an unsupervised pattern identification technique, we established molecular staging of male gonadal development. Rather than providing a static descriptive analysis, we developed algorithms to cluster the sage data and assign sage tags to a corresponding chromosomal position; these data are displayed in chromosome graphic format. A prominent increase in global genomic activity from E10.5 to E17.5 was observed. Important chromosomal regions related to the developmental processes were identified and validated based on established mouse models with developmental disorders. These regions may represent markers for early diagnosis for disorders of male gonad development as well as potential treatment targets.

To construct a tag expression library of Monascus aurantiacus that could produce citrinin maximally on the thirteenth (0.966 mg/mL) day in the submerged culture. Methods Total RNA was extracted from the mycelium, cDNA was synthesized using the SuperScript choice system, and then, a sage library was successfully constructed according to the Microsage method. Results Five hundred and ninety eight clones were obtained in sage library, and 120 clones were picked out randomly for identification and sequencing purpose. Eighty nine clones had positive inserts, 26 clones had no inserts and the remaining 5 clones had no site of NlaⅢ enzyme in inserts. There were seven repeated clones. Conclusion With the aid of sage2000 software, 901 tags were obtained from 89 clones, representing 686 unique transcripts. Six unique tags of them belong to highly expressed genes (Number of tags≥10) and 143 unique tags to moderately expressed genes (repeat tags≥2).

A new Turbo iterative receiver structure is proposed for the uplink multiple-input multiple-output orthogonal frequency division multiple access （MIMO-OFDMA） systems. The space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization （sage） algorithm is naturally embedded in the framework of iterative receiver to perform synchronization and detection usin~ the Turbo detector outputs. In each iteration, the expectation step intends to remove the multiple access interference （MAI） caused by other asynchronous users, and the maximization step is utilized to estimate the required parameters （i.e., timing offset, carrier frequency offset, channel state information, etc.） sequentially for each user. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can approach the performance of ideal receiver closely, while the processing complexity is rather lower than the conventional detectors.

The aim of this research was to evaluate the dietary supplementation 1% （w/w） of oregano and sage dried leaves on performances and meat quality of broiler rabbits. A feeding trial, which lasted 48 d, was carried out on 105 male Bianca Italiana rabbits randomly divided in seven groups and fed ad libitum. At the end of the trial ten animals per group were slaughtered and samples of dorsal muscle were taken in order to perform laboratory analysis. Mortality rate did not statistically differ between groups. Growth performances of animals fed diets supplemented with aromatic plants were higher （P〈0.05） than those of animals of control group, whereas carcass parameters were not affected by treatments excepting for the slaughter weight that showed the same trend as growth performances. Meat quality traits, oxidative lipid stability and fatty acid proifle were not inlfuenced by aromatic plant supplementation. In conclusion, oregano and sage in form of dried leaves can be used in rabbit without adverse effects on performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality traits.

Aim:To investigate the robust gene signature in liver cancer,we applied anintegrated approach to perform a joint analysis of a highly diverse collection ofliver cancer genome-wide datasets,including genomic alterations and transcrip-tion profiles.Methods:1-class Significance Analysis of Microarrays coupled withranking score method were used to identify the robust gene signature in livertumor tissue.Results:In total,1 625 051 gene expression measurements from 16public microarrays,2 pairs of serial analyses of gene expression experiments,and252 loss of heterozygosity reports obtained from 568 publications were used inthis integrated study.The resulting robust gene signatures included 90 genes,which may be of great importance to liver cancer research.A system assessmentanalysis revealed that our integrative method had an accuracy of 92% and acorrelation coefficient value of 0.88.Conclusion:The system assessment resultsindicated that our method had the ability of integrating the datasets from varioustypes of sources,and eliciting more accurate results,as can be very useful in thestudy of liver cancer.

Coordinated multiple point （CoMP） transmission/reception has been investigated recently as a promising technology to increase the cell-edge user performance of long term evolution-advanced （LTE-A）, and channel estimation is a crucial technology for CoMP systems. In this paper, we consider a reduced-complexity minimum mean square error （MMSE） channel estimator for CoMP systems. The estimator uses space alternating generalized expectation maximization （EM）（sage） algorithm to avoid the inverse operation of the joint MMSE estimator. In the proposed scheme, the base stations （BSs） in the CoMP system estimate the channels of all the coordinated users serially and iteratively. We derive the sage-based estimators and analyze complexity. Simulation results verify that the performance of the proposed algorithm is close to the joint MMSE estimation algorithm while reducing the complexity greatly.

This paper presents an empirical model for estimating the zonal mean aerosol extinction profiles in the stratosphere over 10°-wide latitude bands between 60°S and 60°N, on the basis of Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment(sage) II aerosol extinction measurements at 1.02, 0.525, and 0.452 μm during the volcanically quiescent period between 1998–2004. First, an empirical model is developed for calculating the stratospheric aerosol extinction profiles at 1.02 μm. Then, starting from the 1.02 μm extinction profile and an exponential spectral dependence, an empirical algorithm is developed that allows the aerosol extinction profiles at other wavelengths to be calculated. Comparisons of the model-calculated aerosol extinction profiles at the wavelengths of 1.02, 0.525, and 0.452 μm and the sage II measurements show that the model-calculated aerosol extinction coefficients conform well with the sage II values, with the relative differences generally being within 15% from 2 km above the tropopause to 40 km. The model-calculated stratospheric aerosol optical depths at the three wavelengths are also in good agreement with the corresponding optical depths derived from the sage II measurements, with the relative differences being within 0.9% for all latitude bands. This paper provides a useful tool in simulating zonal mean aerosol extinction profiles, which can be used as representative background stratospheric aerosols in view of atmospheric modeling and remote sensing retrievals.

A new channel estimation and data detection joint algorithm is proposed for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) -orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system using linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE)-based space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (sage) algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, every sub-frame of the MIMO-OFDM system is divided into some OFDM sub-blocks and the LMMSE-based sage algorithm in each sub-block is used. At the head of each sub-frame, we insert training symbols which are used in the initial estimation at the beginning. Channel estimation of the previous sub-block is applied to the initial estimation in the current sub-block by the maximum-likelihood (ML) detection to update channel estimatjon and data detection by iteration until converge. Then all the sub-blocks can be finished in turn. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the bit error rate (BER) performance. © by HIGH TECHNOLOGY LETTERS PRESS.

Synthetically adaptive robust filtering for satellite orbit determination

The quality of the satellite orbit determination is rested on the knowledge of per-turbing forces acting on the satellite and stochastic properties of the observations, and the ability of controlling various kinds of errors. After a brief discussion on the dynamic and geometric orbit determinations, sage adaptive filtering and robust filtering are reviewed. A new synthetically adaptive robust filtering based on a combination of robust filtering and sage filtering is devel-oped.It is shown, by derivations and calculations, that the synthetically adaptive robust filtering for orbit determination is not only robust but also simple in calculation. It controls the effects of the outliers of tracking observations and the satellite dynamical disturbance on the parameter esti-mates of the satellite orbit.
