Heavy metals accumulation in suburban roadside plants of a tropical area(Jengka,Malaysia)

Introduction:This study aims to examine the uptake and translocation of Cd,Cu,Fe,and Pb in different parts of three roadside plant species grown in the semi-urban of Jengka,Pahang,***:Heavy metal concentrations were determined from various parts of Athyrium esculentum(AE),Chromolaena odorata(CO),and Lantana camara(LC).The bioconcentration factor(BCF)and translocation ratio of heavy metals from soils to plants were ***:Fe showed the highest metal concentration determined(roadside plants was higher than metal determined in the same species from an uncontaminated *** component analysis(PCA)suggests anthropogenic and natural sources of heavy *** roots slightly enriched by Cd and Pb(BCF1).The translocation ratio of four metals suggests that absorption of the three plants had the rank:root>stem>***:The metals in the root zone transported weakly to the stem but more strongly mobilized to leaves when available in the stems.A comprehensive study of heavy metal concentration in a variety of roadside plants in the tropical area should be done in the future ensuring the precise source and translocation mechanisms.

Evaluation of Pb, Cu, Zn and Cd Levels in Some plants at roadsides between Mafraq and Jerash, Jordan

In this study, Cu, Zn, Cd and Pb concentrations were investigated in both stem and roots of three different plants which are Charlock （Sinapis arvensis）, Inula （Inula salicina） and Asphodelus （Asphodelus fistulosus）. The plants were collected from the roadsides between Mafraq and Jerash in Jordan. The concentrations were in lag of heavy metal per gram of sample weight. While the average concentrations in plants stem were 0.16 μg/g, 9.5μg/g, 0.51 μg/g and 22.9 μg/g for Cd, Cu, Pb and Zn ions, respectively, the corresponding concentrations in the plants roots were 0.09 μg/g, 6.4 μg/g, 0.2 μg/g and 15.7 μg/g for the same ions. The measured concentrations were much less than those reported by other local and international studies, therefore, the area under investigation might be considered healthy for crops culturing.
