Sensitivity of WRF simulated typhoon track and intensity over the South China Sea to horizontal and vertical resolutions

To determine the grid resolutions of the WRF model in the typhoon simulation,some sensitivity analysis of horizontal and vertical resolutions in different conditions has been carried *** horizontal resolutions(5,10,20,30 km),nesting grids(15 and 5 km),different vertical resolutions(35-layers,28-layers,20-layers)and different top maximum pressures(1 000,2 000,3 500,5 000 Pa)had been used in the mesoscale numerical model WRF to simulate the Typhoon *** simulation results of typhoon track,wind speed and sea level pressure at different horizontal and vertical resolutions have been compared and *** horizontal and vertical resolutions of the model have limited effect on the simulation effect of the typhoon *** horizontal and vertical resolutions have obvious effects on typhoon strength(defined by wind speed)and intensity(defined by sea level pressure,SLP),especially for sea level *** typhoon intensity simulated by the high-resolution model is closer to the real situation and the nesting grids can improve computational accuracy and *** simulation results affected by vertical resolution using 35-layers is better than the simulation results using 20-layers and 28-layers *** comparison and analysis,the horizontal and vertical resolutions of WRF model are finally determined as follows:the two-way nesting grid of 15 and 5 km is comprehensively determined,and the vertical layers is 35-layers,the top maximum pressure is 2 000 Pa.

Properties of an improved Gabor wavelet transform and its applications to seismic signal processing and interpretation

This paper presents an analytical study of the complete transform of improved Gabor wavelets （IGWs）, and discusses its application to the processing and interpretation of seismic signals. The complete Gabor wavelet transform has the following properties. First, unlike the conventional transform, the improved Gabor wavelet transform （IGWT） maps time domain signals to the time-frequency domain instead of the time-scale domain. Second, the IGW＇s dominant frequency is fixed, so the transform can perform signal frequency division, where the dominant frequency components of the extracted sub-band signal carry essentially the same information as the corresponding components of the original signal, and the sub- band signal bandwidth can be regulated effectively by the transform＇s resolution factor. Third, a time-frequency filter consisting of an IGWT and its inverse transform can accurately locate target areas in the time-frequency field and perform filtering in a given time-frequency range. The complete IGW transform＇s properties are investigated using simulation experiments and test cases, showing positive results for seismic signal processing and interpretation, such as enhancing seismic signal resolution, permitting signal frequency division, and allowing small faults to be identified.

On the Remapping and Identification of Potential Wind Sites in Nigeria

The ERA-Interim reanalysis wind based on the distance-weighted average remapping for studying the wind circulation in Nigeria is presented. The wind flow using this atmospheric model simulation is studied for identification of grid-tie electrification opportunities in different wind locations. A 10-year reanalysis wind speed components at a surface level of the planetary layer at 0.25° × 0.25° spatial resolution is obtained and remapped into a new horizontal wind field at a grid resolution of 0.125° × 0.125° covering longitudinal and latitudinal directions of 3.0 - 15.0°E and 15.0 - 3.0°N, respectively. Using the distance-weighted average technique, the remapped wind field at a new grid resolution of 0.125° × 0.125° is compared at different terrain elevations and approximated close to the actual wind field of the same resolution. To determine the suitability of the prevailing wind for small-scale energy conversion, the magnitude of wind flow across the remapped wind field is studied for a 10-year period. Analysis shows that northern regions of Nigeria have a fair wind potential for a stand-alone application based on the wind flow originated at Gulf of Guinea as well as Chad and Niger. Furthermore, hourly surface wind speed observations from 18 synoptic stations in Nigeria are obtained and compared with the bilinear interpolated wind stations. The reanalysis wind reflects the surface wind observations and proves that the prevailing wind in Nigeria is higher than the reanalysis wind projection obtained from gridded data at resolution of 0.125° × 0.125°. The sectorwise wind directions at each synoptic stations for a period of 10 years are presented.

The goal of this paper is to investigate whether the Ext-groups of all pairs (M, N) of modules over Nakayama algebras of type (n,n,n) satisfy the condition ExtΛn(M,N)=0 for n >> 0 ? ExtΛn(M,N)=0 for n >> 0. We achieve that by discussing the Ext-groups of Nakayama algebra with projectives of lengths 3n+1 and 3n+2 using combinations of modules of different lengths.
