The action mechanism of the work done by the electric field force on moving charges to stimulate the emergence of carrier generation/recombination in a PN junction

It is discovered that the product of the current and the electric field in a PN junction should be regarded as the rate of work(power)done by the electric field force on moving charges(hole current and electron current),which was previously misinterpreted as solely a Joule heating effect.We clarify that it is exactly the work done by the electric field force on the moving charges to stimulate the emergence of non-equilibrium carriers,which triggers the novel physical phenomena.As regards to Joule heat,we point out that it should be calculated from Ohm’s law,rather than simply from the product of the current and the electric field.Based on this understanding,we conduct thorough discussion on the role of the electric field force in the process of carrier recombination and carrier generation.The thermal effects of carrier recombination and carrier generation followed are incorporated into the thermal equation of energy.The present study shows that the exothermic effect of carrier recombination leads to a temperature rise at the PN interface,while the endothermic effect of carrier generation causes a temperature reduction at the interface.These two opposite effects cause opposite heat flow directions in the PN junction under forward and backward bias voltages,highlighting the significance of managing device heating phenomena in design considerations.Therefore,this study possesses referential significance for the design and tuning on the performance of piezotronic devices.

Anisotropic s-Wave Gap in the Vicinity of a Quantum Critical Point in Superconducting BaFe_(2)(As_(1-x)P_(x))_(2) Single Crystals:A Study of Point-Contact Spectroscopy

We report on soft c-axis point-contact Andreev reflection(PCAR)spectroscopy combining with resistivity measurements on BaFe_(2)(As_(0.7)P_(0.3))_(2),to elucidate the superconducting gap structure in the vicinity of the quantum critical point.A double peak at the gap edge plus a dip feature at zero-bias has been observed on the PCAR spectra,indicative of the presence of a nodeless gap in BaFe_(2)(As_(0.7)P_(0.3))_(2).Detailed analysis within a sophisticated theoretical model reveals an anisotropic gap with deep gap minima.The PCARs also feature additional structures related to the electron-bosonic coupling mode.Using the extracted superconducting energy gap value,a characteristic bosonic energy Ω_(b) and its temperature dependence are obtained,comparable with the spin-resonance energy observed in neutron scattering experiment.These results indicate a magnetism-driven quantum critical point in the BaFe_(2)(As_(1-x)P_(x))_(2) system.

Spinel cubic ferrites have huge applications in me mory and high frequency devices.For the improvement of these modern devices,the magnetic coercivity,permeability,and dielectric properties of a ferrite are the important issues.This article focuses on improving the magnetic coercivity,magnetic permeability,and dielectric properties of Co_(0.2)Zn_(0.3)Ni_(0.5)Eu_(x)Fe_(2)-xO_(4) ferrites,where x=0.00,0.06,and 0.10.The X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM),energy dispersive X-ray(EDX),vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM),and an impedance analyzer were used to characterize the structural,magnetic,and dielectric properties of the samples.The XRD patterns indicate the formation of spinel cubic structure of the samples with a secondary peak(EuFeO_(3))for Eu doped samples.The densities and porosities of the samples follow an inverse trend,where the doped samples’lattice parameters are increased with the increment of rare earth Eu concentration.The FTIR analysis also proves the spinel cubic phase of the samples.The average grain size of the ferrites is obtained via FESEM images,and it is increased from 121 to 198 nm.VSM analysis confirms that doping of the Eu content also changes other hysteresis loop properties of Co_(0.2)Zn_(0.3)Ni_(0.5)Eu_(x)Fe_(2)-xO_(4) ferrites.Particularly,the coercivity of the Eu doped samples is greater than that of the mother alloy(x=0.00).The EDX study shows that there is no impurity contamination in the ferrites.The permeability and dielectric measurements show an improved quality factor of the Eu-doped samples with low magnetic and dielectric losses.Frequency dependent resistivity and impedance analysis also show the improved nature.From the observed properties of the samples,all the investigated ferrites might be strong candidates for potential applications in memory devices,magnetic sensors,and high frequency applications.

resistivity will have different response characteristics to the hydraulic fracture propagation process. In this work, a resistivity testing system for hydraulic fracturing specimens was established. resistivity and acoustic emission(AE) information were jointly analysed to determine the dynamic response characteristics of resistivity during hydraulic fracture propagation. The results show that the water and fracture exert a competitive influence on the connection structure of the circuit, and there are two significant peak resistivity points in the curve, presenting a double peak therein. The peak resistivity data of the specimen with a larger fracture area are much different from the initial value. With the increase of the rate of injection, the range of variation of the highest value that can be reached with the specimen resistivity decreases. High resistivity rates or high resistivity fluctuations exhibit rapid a release of fracture energy. The fracture failure mode dominated by shear fractures makes the formation produce a “series+parallel” electrical connection structure;a calculation model of formation resistivity based on shear and tensile failure was proposed to characterize the proportion of different types of hydraulic fractures and elucidate the control effect of matrix resistivity on the electrical performance of the overall circuit structure.

Novel seed-assisted synthesis of indium tin oxide submicro-cubes and their resistivity

Indium tin oxide films,an important n-type semiconductor oxide,show great prospects in optoelectronic device applications.Consequently,as a key raw material of targets for sputtering films,it is important to prepare low-resistivity indium tin oxide powders.Herein,low-resistivity indium tin oxide submicro-cubes are synthesized by a seed-assisted coprecipitation method.The effects of seed content,In^(3+)concentration,aging time,reaction temperature and calcination temperature on resistivity were investigated by single factor and orthogonal experiments.To ensure reliability and reproducibility of data,each experiment was repeated three times and resistivity of each sample was measured three times to obtain average value.The results indicated that optimal sample was matched with cubic phase In_(2)O_(3).The single-crystal indium tin oxide particles exhibited a regular cubic shape with a size of nearly 500 nm and low resistivity of 0.814Ω·cm.Compared with particles prepared by the conventional coprecipitation method,indium tin oxide submicro-cubes showed good dispersion.The presence of seed particles provided nucleation sites with lower energy barriers and promoted formation of submicro-cubes.The face-to-face contact among particles and good dispersion contributed to electron transfer,resulting in lower resistivity.The seed-assisted synthesis provides a novel way to prepare low-resistivity indium tin oxide submicro-cubes.

SnO_(2)films exhibit significant potential as cost-effective and high electron mobility substitutes for In_(2)O_(3)films.In this study,Li is incorporated into the interstitial site of the SnO_(2)lattice resulting in an exceptionally low resistivity of 2.028×10^(-3)Ω·cm along with a high carrier concentration of 1.398×10^(20)cm^(-3)and carrier mobility of 22.02 cm^(2)/V·s.

Electrical resistivity-temperature characteristics enhancement of insulating cross-linked polyethylene composites by incorporating positive temperature coefficient particles with different Curie temperatures

Incorporating positive temperature coefficient(PTC)ceramic particles into polymers provides a prospective alternative solution for suppressing severe electric field distortions caused by negative temperature coefficient(NTC)of electrical resistivity within polymer insulation in high voltage direct current cable.The effect of the Curie temperature of PTC particles on the inhibition of the NTC effect of cross-linked polyethylene(XLPE)is investigated in this study.Positive temperature coefficient particles with varied Curie temperatures are surface-modified and melt blending with XLPE.The modified particles are dispersed on averagely in the matrix.The electrical resistivity,space charge behaviour,and direct current(DC)electrical breakdown strength of the samples are investigated at different temperatures,exploring the effect of the Curie temperature of PTC particles on suppressing the NTC effect of XLPE.It is demonstrated that the reduction in Curie temperature can further suppress the NTC effect of XLPE,enhance the DC strength at elevated temperatures,and inhibit the internal space charge accumulation.The reduction in the Curie temperatures means that the initiation of the PTC effect advances,exhibiting a higher potential barrier and inhibiting the NTC effect more effectively.This work may give a reference for improving the temperature stability of DC properties for XLPE cable insulation.

Sign reversal of anisotropic magnetoresistance and anomalous thickness-dependent resistivity in Sr_(2)CrWO_(6)/SrTiO_(3) films

High-quality Sr_(2)CrWO_(6)(SCWO) films have been grown on SrTiO_(3)(STO) substrate by pulsed laser deposition under low oxygen pressure. With decrease of the film thickness, a drastic conductivity increase is observed. The Hall measurements show that the thicker the film, the lower the carrier density. An extrinsic mechanism of charge doping due to the dominance of oxygen vacancies at SCWO/STO interfaces is proposed. The distribution and gradient of carrier concentration in SCWO films are considered to be related to this phenomenon. resistivity behavior observed in these films is found to follow the variable range hopping model. It is revealed that with increase of the film thickness, the extent of disorder in the lattice increases, which gives a clear evidence of disorder-induced localization charge carriers in these films.Magnetoresistance measurements show that there is a negative magnetoresistance in SCWO films, which is considered to be caused by the magnetic scattering of magnetic elements Cr^(3+) and W^(5+). In addition, a sign reversal of anisotropic magnetoresistance(AMR) in SCWO film is observed for the first time, when the temperature varies across a characteristic value, T_(M). Magnetization-temperature measurements demonstrate that this AMR sign reversal is caused by the direction transition of easy axis of magnetization from the in-plane ferromagnetic order at T > T_(M) to the out-of-plane at T < T_(M).

Electrical resistivity change of saturated sand during reliquefaction under hammering loading

The electrical resistivity method was verified as an optional technique to monitor the change of mesostructure of saturated soils.To investigate the change laws of resistivity and analyze the reliquefaction meso-mechanism during the consecutive liquefaction process,five successive impact liquefaction tests were performed in a one-dimensional cubical chamber.The resistivity variation and excess pore water pressure(EPWP)were measured.The results indicate that the excess pore water pressure experienced four stages:quick increase stage,slow dissipation stage,rapid dissipation stage,and stability stage.Meanwhile,a swift decrease of resistivity emerged before the start of the rapid dissipation stage of EPWP,and then an increasing trend of resistivity is demonstrated with the densification of soil.It is proved that the vertical pore connectivity of liquefied sand is better than its random deposit state,based on a comparative study of porosity calculated from the settlement and resistivity of sand after each test.

Integrated Geological and Geophysical Mapping for Groundwater Potential Studies at Ekwegbe-Agu and Environs, Enugu State, Nigeria

The study integrates both the geological and geophysical mapping techniques for groundwater potential studies at Ekwegbe-Agu and the environs, Enugu state, Nigeria for optimal citing of borehole. Located in the Anambra Basin between latitudes 6˚43'N and 6˚47'N and longitudes 7˚28'E and 7˚32'E, it is stratigraphycally underlain by, from bottom to top, the Enugu/Nkporo, Mamu and Ajali Formation respectively, a complex geology that make citing of productive borehole in the area problematic leading to borehole failure and dry holes due to inadequate sampling. The study adopted a field and analytic sampling approach, integrating field geological, electrical resistivity and self-potential methods. The software, SedLog v3.1, InterpexIx1Dv.3, and Surfer v10 were employed for the data integration and interpretation. The result of the geological field and borehole data shows 11 sedimentary facies consisting of sandstone, shales and heterolith of sandstone/shale, with the aquifer zone mostly prevalent in the more porous sand-dominated horizons. Mostly the AK and HK were the dominant curve types. An average of 6 geo-electric layers were delineated across all transects with resistivity values ranging from 25.42 - 105.85 Ωm, 186.38 - 3383.3 Ωm, and 2992 - 6286.4 Ωm in the Enugu, Mamu and Ajali Formations respectively. The resistivity of the main aquifer layer ranges from 1 to 500 Ωm. The aquifer thickness within the study area varies between 95 and 140 m. The western and northwestern part of the study area which is underlain mainly by the Ajali Formation showed the highest groundwater potential in the area and suitable for citing productive boreholes.
