Growth performance,digestive enzyme activities and serum nonspecific immunity of the red tilapia(Oreochromis mossambicus×Oreochromis niloticus)feddiets supplemented with ultrafine powder of Enteromopha prolifera

The present study evaluated ef fects of ultrafine powder of the green macroalgae E nteromopha prolifera as dietary supplement on growth performance, digestive enzyme activities and serum nonspecific immune responses of the red tilapia(O reochromis mossambicus × Oreochromis niloticus). The red tilapia were fed five diets supplemented with different levels of E. prolifera ultrafine powder as well as a control diet containing no E. prolifera for seven weeks(Diets 0–6 contained 0(control), 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 g/kg of E. prolifera ultrafine powder, respectively). The results showed that diets supplemented with E. prolifera ultrafine powder generally improved growth, immunity and digestive enzyme activities of the red tilapia. In particular, the fish fed the diet incorporated 50 g/kg (5%) E. prolifera ultrafine powder(Diet 5) achieved the highest percentage weight gain, specific growth rate and the condition factor(increased by 15.4%, 8.0% and 5.7%, respectively when compared to the control). Feeding the diet also led to significantly increases( P red tilapia should be 50 g/kg(or 5%).

The optimum dose and period of 17α-methyltestosterone immersion on masculinization of red tilapia(Oreochromis spp.)

This study was carried out to examine the effect of combining factors for immersion technique on masculinization of red tilapia(Oreochromis spp.).Three selected doses(1000,1,500,and 2000μg/L)of 17α-methyltestosterone(17 MT)immersion,2 exposure times(3 and 6 h)once or twice a week,and interaction of these factors were tested.A total of 12 treatment combinations under 3×2×2 factorial experiments in randomized complete block design were conducted to compare with the negative control group(no 17 MT-treated)and positive control group(17 MT-treated feed administration).One hundred red tilapia larvae(14 days post-hatch)were randomly allocated in each treatment and were operated in a 10-L glass jar for 21 *** the end of the treatment regime,the survival rate was ***,fish were raised in a 150-L glass tank using normal commercial feed for 2 months and sex ratios were determined via the gonad squash *** of the immersion treatments tested resulted in a statistically significant(p>0.05)decrease in survival *** 17 MT-treated groups produced progenies with a significantly higher(predicted 1:1 sex *** of some factor combinations in the masculinization of red tilapia were *** male ratio was significantly affected by the dose-period and dose-frequency treatments(ptilapia farms.

red tilapia is becoming more popular for aquaculture production in China in recent ***,the pigmentation differentiation in genetic breeding is the main problem limiting its development of commercial red tilapia culture and the genetic basis of skin color variation is still *** this study,we conducted Illumina sequencing of transcriptome on three color variety red tilapia.A total of 224,895,758 reads were generated,resulting in 160,762 assembled contigs that were used as reference *** contigs of red tilapia transcriptome had hits in the range of 53.4% to 86.7% of the unique proteins of zebrafish,fugu,medaka,three-spined stickleback and *** 44,723 contigs containing 77,423 simple sequence repeats（SSRs） were identified,with 16,646 contigs containing more than one *** skin transcriptomes were compared pairwise and the results revealed that there were 148 common significantly differentially expressed unigenes and several key genes related to pigment synthesis,***,tyrp1,silv,sox10,slc24 a5,cbs and slc7 a11,were *** results will facilitate understanding the molecular mechanisms of skin pigmentation differentiation in red tilapia and accelerate the molecular selection of the specific strain with consistent skin colors.

In order to understand the acclimation strategies of red tilapia to different environments, this present study aimed to evaluate different responses of gill ionocytes of red tilapia（O. mossambicus ♀× O. niloticus ♂） transferred from freshwater（FW） to saline water（SW, 10-30‰）, alkaline water（AW, 1-3‰） and saline ＆ alkaline water（S＆AW, 10/1-30/3‰）. Localization, type, size, and numeration of gill ionocytes were investigated on same specimens by scanning electron microscopy（SEM） and immunohistochemistry（IHC） with antibodies of Na+/K+-ATPase（NKA）, Na+/K+/2Cl-contransporter（NKCC）, cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator（CFTR） and carbonic anhydrase（CA）. Ionocytes were only located on filaments conducted by SEM. Four types of ionocytes, namely pit, convex, concave and transitory types were determined morphologically by their apical openings, of which concave and transitory type weren’t presented in FW and SW（10‰）. Both ionocytes size and number increased with elevated stress levels. In comparison to FW, density of ionotypes increased 4.75-, 3.00- and 3.44-fold in SW（30‰）, AW（3‰） and S＆AW（30/3 ‰）, respectively. The size of pit type increased dramatically in SW, but kept constant in AW and S＆AW, while the size of convex and transitory types increased greatly in AW and S＆AW. IHC results on gill filaments also confirmed branchial distribution of ionocytes. Immunoreaction of NKA, NKCC and CA appeared in FW except for CFTR, while they all appeared in SW（30‰）, AW（3‰） and S＆AW（30/3‰）.
