Who is at risk in the French mountains? Profiles of the accident victims in outdoor sports and mountain recreation

The risk of both severe and frequent injury associated with active pursuits in mountain areas is acknowledged. This phenomenon is all the most relevant to investigate in France that there is a growing enthusiasm for outdoor sports and recreation. This paper focuses on the social-demographic and sporting profiles of accident victims. Our intent is to better understand who is specifically at risk, while practicing mountain recreation, in the French mountains. Such identification doubtlessly constitutes an important asset in order to enhance prevention. Three critical activities are notably tackled, among some others: hiking, a widespread activity that exposes many practitioners to hazardous settings; mountaineering and ski touring, supposedly entailing the most severe *** order to align the information collected, then provide estimations based on the reasoned crossing of these secondary data, we consulted and summarised all the databases that we knew of on the French territory: rescue team intervention reports, aggregated statistics from the sports ministry, sporting federation accident declarations, avalanche experts statistics, mountain guides union accident/incident reports, healthcare facilities admissions, etc. Only the sources consideredto be the most reliable and representative were used, owing to the number of cases processed, the exhaustive nature of data collection, or the level of information detail available. Our method also included consultation of all the parties playing an active role in prevention, training and mountain rescue, thus ensuring a participative, co-constructive approach to the study with the people that have the best knowledge of victim profiles. Around fifty such parties were interviewed on the methods implemented, the benefits and limits of current data, and the main expectations in terms of accidentology progress, thus further enhancing the credibility of the study proposed in this paper. Based on questionnaire survey and cross--tabulation analysis, the authors discussed relationships between emissiveness and socio--economic elements ofShanghainese in their weekend trips, including emissivenesses of different age group,income per month, occupations, education and family structure. Visiting rates ofrecreationists to destinations demonstrated different levels even being under a same emissiveness. In the second part of the paper, the authors described three differentspatial scales of destination choice behavior of Shanghainese to tourist sites fromwhich situated in urban area, to which located in suburb area and in neighboringprovinces. The authors also observed the perceptive evaluation of Shanghainese tothose sites they had visited or would visit in the future. Some proposals abollt sustainable urban tourism development were put forward at the end of this paper.

recreation Features Inventory in Sri Lanka： With Special References to Ambewela-ldalgashinna Railway

The main purpose of study was to innovate recreation features along the Ambewela to Idalgashinna railway road with railway recreation. There were four objectives in this study. In this context, RFI （recreational Features Inventory） database is used to collect data classification when and where certain observations were made to collect respective primary data. The data was collected for the study via RFI data collecting which consisted of most suitable questions and variables. In this study, the data sample method was the purposive sample method and the research limited to four railways stations. The data analyzed form GIS （Geographical Information System）, Google map and matrix. There were 14 tunnels between Ohiya to Idalgashinna. There is a large number of tunnels between two stations in the world and there are 18 tunnels in the whole research area. The researcher could identify the growth ＆recreational features from Ambewela to Idalgashinna. In addition, the researcher identified natural resources for the tourism industry and 70% sensitive and 30% none-sensitive recreational features from Ambewela to Idalgashinna research area. The GIS map indicated the growth patterns of particular recreational features in this area.

Exercise is recreation not medicine

Purpose： This paper responds to the question, is exercise medicine？ It does so using a qualitative case study that proposes that exercise is recreation. The study （1） describes and reflects upon an exercise is recreation metaphor, （2） establishes the principles and processes used to develop a sport park within which exercise is recreation, and （3） presents a comparative analysis of the exercise is recreation approach with a UK quality framework for ＂exercise referrals＂. Methods： Four years of documentation were collated and placed into 14 categories：（1） university strategies, （2） plans of the site, （3） policy documents, （4） minutes of a steering group, （5） contemporary documents, （6） organisational charts, （7） responses to local government policies on sport, （8） consultation documents, （9） operational procedures, （10） facility specifications, （11） partnership agreements, （12） material relating to the university＇s work on events, （13） notes on the universities sport department, and （14） timetables. These data were analysed through a 4-stage process which used recreation as the analytical theme for a comparative analysis. Results： The characteristics of the exercise is recreation metaphor in this case are （1） a focus on the experience of the user, （2） the promotion of well-being, （3） the importance of community, （4） embracing inclusivity, （5） sport, （6） aesthetics, and （7） leisure time. The principles and processes used to develop the sport park were （1） custodianship, （2） partnerships, （3） values, （4） inter-professional working, （5） local heritage, （6） change, （7） the natural park environment, and （8）＂riding the bike as you build it＂. The comparative analysis with a UK quality framework for ＂exercise referrals＂ clearly shows a difference from an exercise is recreation approach. The Economics of Competing Water Uses under a FERC Licensing Agreement: Estimation of Property Value, recreation, and Hydroelectric Impacts

Reservoirs provide a variety of services with economic values across multiple sectors. As demands for reservoir services continue to grow and precipitation patterns evolve, it becomes ever more important to consider the integrated suite of values and tradeoffs that attend changes in water uses and availability. Section 316 (b) of the Clean Water Act requires that owners of certain water cooled power plants evaluate technologies and operational measures that can reduce their impacts to aquatic organisms. The studies must discuss the social costs and benefits of alternative technologies including cooling towers (79 Fed. Reg. 158, 48300 - 48439). Cooling towers achieve their effect through evaporation. This manuscript estimates the property value, recreation, and hydroelectric generation impacts that could result from the evaporative water loss associated with installing cooling towers at the McGuire Nuclear Generating Station (McGuire) located on Lake Norman, North Carolina. Although this study specifically evaluates the effects of evaporative water loss from cooling towers, its methods are applicable to estimating the economic benefits and costs of a new water user or reduced water input in any complex reservoir system that supports steam electric generation, hydroelectric generation, residential properties, recreation, irrigation, and municipal water use.

Japanese Ways of Developing Urban Underground recreation Space

This paper defines the concept of urban recreation space at first, and then?focuses on the six aspects of experience in?functional orientation, joint development, business planning, environment designing,?recreational route designing, operation and management based on reviewing the development process of the underground street in urban recreation space in Japan.?The results show that the overall planning and detailed design of urban recreational space in Japan is worth learning and drawing lessons for all countries in the world.

Rapid Appraisal of User Stakeholders for Forest recreation Area Planning: The Little Molas Case

Public forest recreation area planning is often confronted by conflicting stakeholder views of what actions are most appropriate for improving outdoor recreation areas. Contemporary users of an outdoor recreation area are often inadequately represented in these planning decisions, due to the high cost and time required for user surveys that have traditionally been used to represent these stakeholders. A case example of the application of an alternative research method termed rapid appraisal (RA) is described. Data collected using rapid appraisal was used to help resolve disagreements on future planning and development options for the Little Molas recreation Area (LMRA). The entire RA process was completed in one month’s time, with results which provided a reliable stakeholder supplement to working group recommendations to the Forest Service for their proposed LMRA redevelopment plan.

Introduction: Hospital recreation (HR) aims to reduce disasters caused by hospital admission. Objectives: To expose the behavior of children in cancer treatment (CA) during HR, and to verify which recreational activities generate the most adherence. Methods: The research is an experimental clinical trial of a non-probabilistic and intentional sample, with a quantitative and qualitative approach. Participants were 43 children (both sexes), with CA, admitted to the Pediatric Hospital Oncology Center—PHOC. The mean age of the children in fact was 7.5 years, and the data of mean and standard deviation between parenthood confer with the data of the results found during the research. The study lasted 12 weeks, with 38 sessions lasting 3 hours. Using games of activity: cognitive, manipulative, perceptive, creative and cooperative. Inclusion criteria: 1) being hospitalized in the PHOC, of the city of Natal;2) being released by the medical team to participate in the activities. Children who were on special care in the ICU were excluded from the study. The behavior of the children was evaluated by the observation matrix proposed by Urie Bonfenbrenner, approached by Krebs and Koller. At the end of the research, an interview was made with patients about the HR experience. Results: In the subjects the molecular behavior showed relevance of ~50%, and the cooperative of ~80% in relation to HR, and the cognitive activities showed an adhesion index of ~90%. Conclusion: The participants showed greater adherence in the cognitive activities, and the predominance of the molecular behavior in relation to hospital recreation, highlighting the cooperative behavior among the individuals. In this way, the activities of HR can complement conventional medical treatment.
