Environmental change signals in geological or biological records.are commonly reflected on their reflecting or transmitting images. These environmental signals can be extracted through digital image analysis. The analysis principle involves section line selection, color value reading and calculating environmental proxy index along the section lines, layer identification, auto-chronology and investigation of structure evolution of growth bands. On detailed illustrations of the image technique, this note provides image analyzing procedures of coral, tree-ring and stalagmite records. The environmental implications of the proxy index from image analysis are accordingly given through application demonstration of the image technique.

Guangdong is a hotspot of chelonian diversity in ***,the freshwater turtle fauna of Guangdong is currently threatened by widespread and intensive exploitation for food,pets and traditional Chinese *** distributions of many species are uncertain owing to a paucity of *** turtles are so extensively traded in the region,most records.now come from turtles in *** emphasize that authors must be explicit about how their records.were obtained to allow other workers the ability to critically evaluate the accuracy of the distribution *** here present detailed information on recent(2000-2008),vouchered records.of 5 freshwater turtle species including Platysternon megacephalum,Geoemyda spengleri,Sacalia bealei,Pelochelys cantorii,Pelodiscus sinensis collected in the field or obtained from hunters,or villages in Guangdong,*** Accounts:(1) Platysternon megacephalum was commonly encountered in *** saw 28 specimens,25 adults and 3 juveniles.(2) Nine Geoemyda spengleri were discovered in Nankunshan Nature Reserve,Tianjingshan Nature Reserve and Sanyue Nature Reserve.(3) Four Sacalia bealei were discovered in Gaoping Nature Reserve,Tianjingshan Nature Reserve and Luokeng Nature Reserve).(4) Four Pelochelys cantorii were discovered in a crocodile farm in Sihui and these turtles were collected from Suijiang River in Zhaoqing.(5) Pelodiscus sinensis,was a common species in *** saw 4 specimens in Longwen Nature Reserve and Changtan Nature *** work was supported financially by Ocean Park Conservation Fund,Turtle Conservation Fund.
