Food hoarding animals often exhibit a number of tactics to minimize cache losses when there are risks of pilferage posed by robbers or audiences,and which strategy is used might vary with animal species,pilfers and environmental ***,there are no published empirical studies focused on whether and how food hoarded animals regulate their food hoard strategies according to sex of *** pilferage model suggested that because many pilferers are storers themselves, storers cannot avoid or prevent pilferage but instead compensate by pilfering caches of other *** a result,the original storers might not respond to competitors by regulating their cache strategy,but rather,they might tolerate even disregard observers,and invest more energy to make themselves being a better *** argument might be regarded as‘pilferage tolerance hypothesis'.However,there are few empirical studies or definitive evidences support this *** this study,we tested the‘pilferage tolerance hypothesis'in Korean field mouse(Apodemus peninsulae) and Chinese white-bellied rat(Niviventer confucianus) respectively in enclosure in presence of conspecific audiences,and we also tested our own hypothesis that sex of pilfers(or audiences) have different effects on hoarding behavior of *** results were that both *** and *** tended to remove more seeds from seed stations,and hoard more seeds in larder when conspecific audiences are present,and the homo-and heterosexual audiences have similar effects on their seed ***,*** intended to switch cache pattern from scatter to larder in presence of *** results did not support the‘pilferage tolerance hypothesis'and our own hypothesis that sex of audiences has different effects on hoarding strategy of *** results suggested that conspecific audiences make both A. peninsulae and *** occupancy more food resources by enhancing cache in larder,and s
