Fast pulse sampling module for real-time neutron–gamma discrimination

An adaptable and compact fast pulse sampling module was developed for the neutron–gamma discrimination. The developed module is well suited for low-cost and low-power consumption applications. It is based on the Domino Ring Sampler 4(DRS4) chip, which offers fast sampling speeds up to 5.12 giga samples per second(GSPS) to digitize pulses from front-end detectors. The high-resolution GSPS data is useful for obtaining precise real-time neutron–gamma discrimination results directly in this module. In this study, we have implemented real-time data analysis in a field programmable gate array. real-time data analysis involves two aspects: digital waveform integral and digital pulse shape discrimination(PSD). It can significantly reduce the system dead time and data rate processed offline. Plastic scintillators(EJ-299-33), which have proven capable of PSD, were adopted as neutron detectors in the experiments. A photomultiplier tube(PMT)(model #XP2020) was coupled to one end of a detector to collect the output light from it. The pulse output from the anode of the PMT was directly passed onto the fast sampling module. The fast pulse sampling module was operated at 1 GSPS and 2 GSPS in these experiments, and the AmBe-241 source was used to examine the neutron–gamma discrimination quality. The PSD results with different sampling rates and energy thresholds were evaluated. The figure of merit(FOM) was used to describe the neutron–gamma discrimination quality. The best FOM value of 0.91 was obtained at 2 GSPS and 1 GSPS sampling rates with an energy threshold of 1.5 MeV_(ee)(electron equivalent).

Recently in [1], Perez and Santos classified real hypersurfaces in complex projective space CPn for n ≥ 3, whose Lie derivative of structure Jacobi operator in the direction of the structure vector field coincides with the covariant derivative of it in the same direction. The present paper completes the investigation of this problem studying the case n = 2 in both complex projective and hyperbolic spaces.

real time RT-qPCR(real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR)是一种快速、简便、准确、灵敏、成本低廉的基因检测技术,被认为是目前检测基因在转录水平表达的金标准。研究发现real time RT-qPCR的检测结果会受到实验设计、引物、模板的质量、内参的选择及数据分析的方法等多个因素的影响,规范实验设计及操作是得到可靠结论的前提和必要条件。对近年来国内外涉及real time RT-qPCR整个实验流程及数据发表的一些规范及标准进行综述,以便规范实验设计及操作,加强实验质量控制,促进研究结果的推广,和更好地发挥其应用价值。

A Versatile Industrial Timer and real Time Keeper

Industrial timer requirements are multifaceted. On-delay, off-delay, cyclic or sequential timing requirements, with usual time range varying from seconds to days, depending on the process. Custom build timers cannot provide all of these requirements simultaneously and hence an advanced timer rectifying this shortcoming has been designed and fabricated in this work. This timer is based on the real time clock chip used in mother boards. Our design can be programmed for a specific time requirement and can later be put to work in standalone mode. A demonstration board is fabricated and tested.

Fuzzy PID Controllers Using FPGA Technique for real Time DC Motor Speed Control

The design of intelligent control systems has become an area of intense research interest. The development of an effective methodology for the design of such control systems undoubtedly requires the synthesis of many concepts from artificial intelligence. The most commonly used controller in the industry field is the proportional-plus-integral-plus-derivative (PID) controller. Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) provides an alternative to PID controller, especially when the available system models are inexact or unavailable. Also rapid advances in digital technologies have given designers the option of implementing controllers using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) which depends on parallel programming. This method has many advantages over classical microprocessors. In this research, A model of the fuzzy PID control system is implemented in real time with a Xilinx FPGA (Spartan-3A, Xilinx Company, 2007). It is introduced to maintain a constant speed to when the load varies.,The model of a DC motor is considered as a second order system with load variation as a an example for complex model systems. For comparison purpose, two widely used controllers “PID and Fuzzy” have been implemented in the same FPGA card to examine the performance of the proposed system. These controllers have been tested using Matlab/Simulink program under speed and load variation conditions. The controllers were implemented to run the motor as real time application under speed and load variation conditions and showed the superiority of Fuzzy-PID.

Indoor Air Quality in a real Operating Theatre under Effective Use Conditions

The aim of this study is to investigate the impact of surgical staff on the indoor air quality in a uni-directional ventilation Operating Theatre (OT). Experimental measurements of particles and microclimate were acquired at rest and in operational conditions. The real OT (operational) use was simulated by a sham hip arthroplasty. CFD simulations were carried out outlining the studied environment used for experimental measurement campaign. A standard k-ε closure scheme based on RANS equations was implemented to solve the velocity and pressure field using an eddy viscosity approach. Temperature and relative humidity distributions were also computed keeping into account sensible and latent heat sources inside the OT. An Euler-based approach was applied to solve the concentration fields of gaseous contaminant and small particles (up to 5 μm in diameter) in the indoor air. An innovative strategy is proposed to estimate, by an iterative comparison between experimental data and numerical results, the emission rate of particles (differentiated by diameters) released by the occupants to be considered as source terms in the numerical model. Compliance with literature evidence concerning thermal and velocity fields and CO2 concentration was confirmed. From our analyses, some IAQ indexes were deduced, allowing monitoring of the local and overall OT air quality level supplied by the ventilating system during real operational conditions. The highest values of microbial air contamination were recorded during surgical activity;nevertheless, results showed the suitability of the ventilation system in providing the expected air quality.

Development of a Novel Reusable real Time Monitoring Glucose Sensor Based on Nanostructured Conducting Polyaniline (NSPANI)

A novel mediatorless reusable glucose biosensor with a remarkable shelf life has been fabricated on electrodeposited film of chemically synthesized nanostructured polyaniline (NSPANI) on indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass plates using cyclic voltammetry. Glucose oxidase has been covalently immobilized on electrodeposited NSPANI film to fabricate a glucose bioelectrode (GOx/NSPANI-SDS/ITO). The results of linear sweep voltammetry and the high value of heterogeneous rate constant as obtained using Laviron equation indicates that GOx/NSPANI-SDS/ITO bioelectrode can detect glucose in the range of 0.5 to 10.00 mM with high sensitivity of 13.9 μA?mM?1 with a fast response time of 12 seconds. The linear regression analysis of bioelectrode reveals standard deviation and correlation coefficient of 6 μA and 0.994, respectively. The low value of Michaelis-Menten constant (Km) estimated as 0.28 mM using Lineweaver-Burke plot indicates high affinity of glucose oxidase enzyme to glucose and transfer rate. The GOx/NSPANI-SDS/ITO bioelectrode exhibits uniform activity for 12 weeks under refrigerated conditions;however the study is further going on. Attempts have been made to utilize this electrode for estimation of glucose in blood serum and results are found to be within 11% error. The unique features of this novel electrode lie on its reusability, real time monitoring, reproducibility and remarkable shelf life apart from the wide linear range, high sensitivity, low Km value, high heterogeneous electron-transfer constant etc.
