Polarization changing technique in macrocosm and it＇s application to radar

A new model of air-surveillance radar (named polarization changing in macrocosm radar: PCM radar), which makes use of the polarization changing technique in macrocosm, is presented in this paper. On basis of careful selection of representative 98 states of polarization in macrocosm, PCM radar can not only pedorm transmitting and receiving polarization matching for various targets, consequently make full use of transmitting and receiving signals of radar, but also improve the capability against active interference and jamming. Experimental test in air defense early-warning radar system demonstrates that it can effectively enhance radar performance.

PO Analysis for RCS of Nonorthogonal Dihedral Corner Reflectors Coated by RAM

The backscattering radar cross section (RCS) of nonorthogonal dihedral corner reflectors coated by RAM (radar absorbing materials) is formulated by the method of PO (physical optics), where singly, doubly, and triply reflected contributions are considered. The final expressions are analytical and allow for the incidence nonperpendicular to the fold axis of the reflector. The results are compared with ones of MoM (method of moment), which shows that the trend of backscatter pattern of the dihedral corner reflector can be well predicted by this method.

The concept of matched illumination is discussed for radar systems employing multiple frequencies(synthetic pulse) and multiple antennas(synthetic antenna). Improved signal to noise and signal to clutter performance is achieved by tayloring the illuminating waveform to propagation medium and target scattering characteristics. Methods discussed are wavefield matching, frequency and antenna diversity and△K ***,bistatic geometries are analysed and found to give much improved detection capability for low observable targets.

In Air Traffic Control extensive use is planned of data links. One of the major candidates is the data link capability of SSR mode *** data link capability of SSR mode S however is rather limited when using conventional rotating antennas with a short and fixed time-on-target,and a long time interval between two successive beam *** results in a high access delay and too long transaction times for long messages consisting of several ELM frames. The paper presents a method for the analysis of the cause of reply losses,and then discusses a novel approach to the data link’s short comings,while maintaining the surveillance capability:the substitution of a number of interrogators with a rotating antenna by a distributed network of(listen-only)SSR mode S ground system receivers and a transmitter. The results show that the mode S transponders suffer from a high reply loss,by occupancy due to mode A/C interrogations, and shows that the novel approach offers adequate data link performance while maintaining the reply loss numbers at an acceptable low probability.

＜正＞For slow target detection with airborne array radars,the ground clutter Doppler spreading due to the platform movement is a limiting factor, especially for long wavelength *** this paper,it will be shown that two procedures for slow target detection（Doppler-angle imaging or space-time processing,and movement compensation）are equivalent[2],[3],and that an original real-time procedure for antenna array calibration using clutter returns can be combined with these detection techniques to increase subclutter visibility in presence of high clutter returns.
