When I first arrived in Shenzhen three years ago,I was amazed at how green the city was.There were trees on every road and no matter how modern and developed the city was,the sensation of being surrounded by nature was always there.Despite the extremely fast growth of Chinese cities,it is impressive to see how some cities like Shenzhen have carefully planned,designed,developed and maintained a wide range of natural corridors,parks,protected areas,mountains and reservoirs.

During the long evolution of petroleum formation,some aromatic components such as benzene, phenol and anthracene would migrate from the oil and gas reservoirs to the surface of the earth and form the so-called geochemical anomalies. Both chromatography and chemical element analysis are commonly applied to investigation of these anomalies. Since 1981, we have been working by method of ultraviolet absorption analysis in research of the geochemical anomalies and have obtained some results which may be beneficial to the fluorescence analysis of ground water.
