A new quaternary mixed anion complex of gadolinium(Ⅲ), [Gd(CH 3CH 2COO) 2(N O 3)(phen)] 2, was synthesized and structurally characterized. The ESR spectr um of the complex with effective g values of 5.314, 2 473 and 1.880 in poly crys talline powder at room temperature is quite different from the U spectrum. The c oordination number of Gd 3+ is nine with a monocapped square antiprism geom etry. And the stacking effect was observed in the complex. The crystal of the co mplex belongs to triclinic with space group P 1, a=0.9626(4) n m, b=0.9732(4) nm, c=1.1758(5) nm, α=102.45(1)°, β=108.16(1) °, γ=96.68(2)°, V=1.0018(7) nm3, Z=2, D c=1.80 g·cm -3 , μ(MoKα)=33.63 mm -1, F(000)=530, GOF=1.80, R=0.023 and R w=0.027.

The building block of eukaryotic chromatin is the nucleo- some core particle （NCP）, which is consisted of -146 bps of DNA wrapped around an octamer of core histones. A tetra- mer of histone H3 and H4 and two H2A-H2B dimers form the histone octamer （Kornberg, 1974; Luger et al., 1997; Tho- mas and Kornberg, 1975）. During DNA replication, nucleo- some disassembly and reassembly occurs at the replication fork, and histone chaperons CAF-1 and ASF1 are principally responsible for the deposition of histones H3 and H4 onto replicated DNA （Kaufman et al., 1995; Tyler et al., 1999）. ASF1 binds a heterodimeric histone H3-H4 complex through its conserved N-terminal domain （aa 1-155） and impedes the formation of the （H3-H4）2 tetramer both inside the nucleus and in the cytoplasm （English et al., 2005）.

Many trinary lanthanide complexes have been ***, few mixed anion complexes with bidentate heterocyclic amines were synthesized. Mixed anion complexes [Ln(CH2=C(CH3)-COO)2(NO3)(phen)]2was synthesized and its properties were determined by elemental analyses, IR and TGA. The IR spectra analysis indicate that NO3-, CH2-C(CH3)-COO- and Phen are coordinated with Ln. And the fluorescent spectra of [Eu(CH2＝C(CH3)-COO)2(NO3)(phen)]2and 1H NMR spectra of [La(CH2＝C(CH3)-COO)2(NO3)(phen)]2 was determined respectively.

Many binary lanthanide complexes have been studied. However, few mixed anion complexes with bidentate heterocyclic amines were synthesized. We synthesized mixed anion complexes Ln ( CH2 ClCOO )2 (NO3 ) ( phen) which was determined by elemental analyses . The IR spectra analyses indicate that NO3- , CH2 ClCOO- and phen are coordinated with Ln . The molar conductances of the complexes at 10-3 mol · L-1 were founded to be between 32.4 and 35.8 S·cm2· mol-1 , suggesting the nonelectrolytes in N-Dimethylformamide. And we determined the fluorescent spectra Eu(CH2ClCOO)2(NO3) ( phen ) and ESR spectra of Gd ( CH2 ClCOO )2 ( NO3) ( phen) .

A series of novel quaternary mixed anion complexes of lanthanide containing 1,10 phenanthroline (phen) and chloroacetate ligands were synthesized from the water/ethanol solution with slightly acidic solution and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV and thermal analysis. The EPR and fluorescence properties also were studied.
