A honeycomb structure with a negative Poisson’s ratio(NPR)was designed,fabricated,and analyzed for utilization in personal protective clothing(PPC).The mechanical properties were investigated using a quasi-static mechanical testing and the Hopkinson pressure bar experimental system,and results were compared with similar samples containing regular hexagonal and regular quadrilateral honeycomb *** experimental results showed that under quasi-static loadings,the concave honeycomb structure had the highest compressive modulus and yield strength,which produced the highest strain absorption energy,anti-deformation performance and energy *** exposed to a dynamic load at a high strain rate,the concave honeycomb also exhibited the highest dynamic compression modulus,the best impact resistance and best energy absorption among the three *** summary,the concave honeycomb structure was more resistant to deformation and had higher impact resistance than the regular hexagonal and regular quadrilateral honeycombs,and exhibited better energy absorption,which makes it a good candidate for application as a personal safety protection material.

The aim of this note is to study the effect of negative Poisson’s ratio on the quasi-static deformation of a poroelastic half-space with anisotropic permeability and compressible fluid and solid constituents by surface loads. Two particular cases considered are: two-dimensional normal strip loading and axisymmetric normal disc loading. It is found that a negative Poisson’s ratio makes the Mandel-Cryer effect more prominent. It also results in an increase in the magnitude of the surface settlement.

This paper proposes a quasi-static conformal mapping analysis to analytically evaluate the input resistance of Archimedean spiral antenna at its radiation region. The deviation from the original constructs of band theory for two-wire spiral antennas leads to the concept of common slot-line mode radiation. The per-unit-length capacitance and the characteristic impedance of the quasi-TEM fundamental propagating mode in periodic coplanar waveguide (PCPW) structure are obtained in terms of spiral parameters including substrate properties. This formula enables little computational effort on the computation of input resistance at the radiation mode of balanced-excited two-arm Archimedean spiral antennas. The numerical simulation demonstrates the accuracy of derived formulas both in free space and when a dielectric layer is presented.

Tunable Optical Absorption of Gold Nanoshells: Effects of Local Dielectric Environment

Utilizing the experimental and numerical approaches, the gamma radiation induced compressive response of the silicon rubber foams under quasi-static compression are investigated. In the experimental research, the quasi-static compression is carried out on the samples of the silicon rubber and the silicon rubber foam. Both the samples are next exposed to the gamma radiation dose of 500 kGy with the dose rate of 100 Gy/min. The data comparison reveals that the gamma radiation hardens the samples. As the nominal strain is 20%, the compressive stresses of the rubber and the rubber foam both increase over 5 times after the gamma radiation. In the present work, a multi-scale method combined with finite element method is developed to numerically predict the compressive response of the silicon rubber foam before and after the gamma radiation. The micro-scale model is constructed according to the real micro-structures of the silicon rubber foam. Its stress and strain relationship is then simulated by using the phenomenological constitutive models, which are setup based on the testing data of the silicon rubber before and after the gamma radiation. Simulation results show that the gamma radiation strongly affect the compressive response of the micro-scale model. Based on the mechanical behaviors of the micro-scale model, the macro-scale models of the silicon rubber foam are investigated numerically. Results also reveal that the gamma radiation obviously increases the compressive stress. The obtained simulation results agree with the testing data well, which verifies the developed method. The present work develops a new method to predict the gamma radiation effects on mechanical properties of rubber foams.

＜正＞Both core and embedding medium dielectric constant can influence the optical absorbance of gold nanoshells. Numerical calculations based on Drude model and quasi-static theory indicated that, there are two absorbance peaks corresponding to plasmon resonance take place. The longer wavelength peak is sensitive to the dielectric constant. When the core dielectric constant is fixed at 5.4, with increasing the dielectric constant of surrounding medium from 1.0 to 9.0, the longer wavelength peak red shift linearly and increase rapidly first and then decrease slowly. When the surrounding’s dielectric constant is fixed at 1.8, with increasing the core dielectric constant from 1.0 to 9.0, the longer wavelength peak red shift nonlinearly and decrease nonlinearly.
