In this letter, the Boltzmann-Hamel equations of nonholonomic mechanics are generalized to the following cases: from constant mass system to variable mass system, from 1-order system to higher order nonholonomic system, from inertial reference frame to noninertial reference frame.Suppose that a mechanical system with variable mass is composed of N-particles and its motion subject to higher order nonholonomic ideal constraints. The complex empirical orthogonal function is employed to analyse the monthly sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) in the Tropical West Pacific (TWP ) for the period from 1951 to 1986. The results show that the SSTA in the area appear in three patterns : a quasi-stationary mode , a latitudinally propagating mode and a longitudinally propagating mode . The three modes contribute almost equally to the total variance of SST . Digital filtering , time-lag correlation, etc ., are applied to analyse the quasi-period low frequency oscillations of the modes and their relations to the southern oscillation (SO) and the West Pacific Subtropical High (WPSH).The SSTA in the TWP is different from that in an ocean current area and plays a special role in the large scale air sea interactions. Aside from being related to the SSTA in the Equatorial East Pacific, the SSTA in the TWP , on the one hand, respond to the oscillation of the global sea level pressure and influence the Subtropical High , and on the other

We investigate the effect of photons and phonons on Frenkel exciton spectrum. The Hamilto nian for a coupled system of the Frenkel excitons. the photons and the phonons is derived. The phonon-exciton interaction makes the energy band of the Frenkel excitons narrow. The photons and the Frenkel excitons make up Frenkel exciton polaritons which are quasi-particles. The Frenkel exciton polariton spectrum consists of two branches. It is found that the photon-exciton interaction makes the ground energy of the Frenkel excitons increase.

The quasipcirticle effect on the nuclear response in the quasielastic electron scattering is studied in a phenomenological quasiparticle model.The quasiparticle Hamiltonian which includes correlations has been introduced through a parameterization of the effective mass m*(r)/m.It is found that the quasiparticle effective mass plays an important role on the nuclear response functions.Though this model could give better agreement with experiments,the discrepancy in the longitudinal response rema.ins to be eliminated.

Chemical ionization (CI) mass spectrometry has been used in studying the reaction behavior of gas phase ions. In the ion source, sample molecules are usually ionized by reagent ions through proton transfer or charge exchange reactions in gas phase. The quasi-molecular ions thus obtained have been frequently used in molecular weight determination. Weinkam and Desiderio et al. studied the solvolysis of gas phase ions. Recently, it has been reported that some classical reactions in solution chemistry can take place in gas phase. Using pure methanol as reagent gas, we obtained the MeOHCI mass spectra of 24 carboxylic acids different in type and observed gas phase esterification.
