The purpose of this review is to integrate the psychological experience of infected individuals during the pandemic.The spread of the pandemic has led to psychological and emotional impacts on patients.A qualitative synthesis is needed to identify,appraise,and integrate the available qualitative findings to provide an evidence for the development of interventions.A meta-aggregation approach was used to analyze studies published in English from January 2020 to August 2021.The JBI qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument was used to assess the methodological quality of included studies.The ConQual system was used to establish the dependability and credibility in the synthesized findings.Six phenomenological studies and one narrative inquiry with an overall quality score of 70%-100% were included.The research findings from 87 participants in eligible studies were aggregated into three categories based on similarity of meaning.Two synthesized findings were generated and rated as moderate based on the ConQual score.The synthesized findings suggested that participants had psychological distress such as fear,anxiety,loneliness,and uncertainty,but they accepted the fact of being infected and tried to adjust themselves using some self-coping strategies,such as diverting attention from disease,seeking help from professional counselors,relying on religious beliefs,and participating in religious activities.They would like to learn more about infections and diseases and needed more informational support from health-care professionals.They were looking forward to recovery from the disease.

Objective To explore factors influencing the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS （PLHA） and receiving antiretroviral therapy （ART） in rural China. Methods In-depth interviews with 20 PLHA recruited from the USAID-funded Longitudinal cohort of eligible PLHA receiving treatment were conducted in March 1999. Participants were Enhanced Evaluation of ART Project, which tracks a at five collaborating treatment centers in Guangxi Autonomous Region, China. An interview guide （semi-structured with open-ended questions） was developed to provide a qualitative examination of the quality of life of PLHA. Results Participants identified that ART affects physical health, including the experience of pain, side effects, and opportunistic infections. ART imposes lifestyle constraints such as reduced mobility due to drug procurement, and social restrictions due to the daily drug regimen. Participants discussed the psychological burden of taking drugs, and the fear of accidental transmission to others, or having their disease status known by others, as well as optimistic feelings about their future due to ART. ART poses a significant drain on individual＇s economic resources due to related medical costs, and inability to seek seasonal migrant labor due to reduced mobility. Conclusion While China＇s national free ART program improved the physical health of those surveyed, their social and economic needs were left unaddressed. To improve life outcomes for PLHA, and by extension, the wider Chinese population, quality of life measures should be included when evaluating the success of the ART program.

Malaysia has a long way before achieving the 20%renewable-energy penetration by 2025.Currently,merely 2%of the country’s electricity is generated by renewable energy sources including solar power.Unlike the abundant literature about solar energy,qualitative studies that focus on experts’opinions on the weaknesses of residential solar-energy policies have received less attention,particularly in the context of Malaysia.Understanding the flaws in the existing policies would lead to creating a better policy framework for solar-energy development.Thus,this study aims to identify the shortcomings of the current government initiatives and policies that deter solar photovoltaic adoption among households from experts’perspectives.Experts also provide recommendations for better future policy design and implementation.This study employs a qualitative research approach(via semi-structured interviews)in collecting experts’viewpoints.Key concerns emerging from the interviews include insufficient financial support,lack of awareness programmes and subsidized electricity tariffs.Also,interviewed experts suggest sufficient financial incentives,increased public awareness programmes and comprehensive legislation aimed at safeguarding consumer interests as a means to raising solar-energy adoption in the country.This underlines the need for policymakers to create public awareness,provide financial support and develop regulatory measures aimed at managing solar companies for the sake of solar development in Malaysia.

Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Mental Health of Healthcare Workers–A Perception of Indian Hospital Administrators

Since the coronavirus pandemic,many factors led to the change in the mental well-being of hospital administrators and their staff.The pandemic negatively impacted the availability and capability of health professionals to deliver essential services and meet rising demand.Therefore,this study aimed to understand the perspective of hospital administrators about issues and challenges that negatively impacted their staff’s mental health and hospital administrators’coping response to mitigate those challenges and issues.An exploratory qualitative study was conducted with 17 hospital administrators(superintendents,deputy superintendents,nursing in charge and hospital in charge)working in a government district hospital of Rajasthan state during September 2022 and October 2022.This study revealed various emerging themes on mental health-related issues,challenges and coping strategies reported by the administrators.Themes and sub-themes that emerged from this study were 1)Perceived mental health of HCWs-perceived importance of mental health,2)Impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of HCWs–common mental health issues,changes in mental health pre and post-pandemic,3)Impact of COVID-19 on health behavior of HCWs-increased self-care and awareness,4)Challenges responsible for poor mental health of HCWs-organizational,ethical and societal challenges and 5)Strategies to retain mental health of HCWs-effective coping strategies.The most common problems were increased levels of stress,feeling fatigued,tiredness,weak and anxiety among the HCWs.Keeping their staff motivated was the biggest challenge reported.Social support,counseling through professionals and demystifying myths were the most effective coping strategies adopted by the participants.In conclusion,this study reported poor mental health-related issues,challenges faced by the HCWs and effective strategies adopted by hospital administrators during tough situations.This study will assist hospital administrators in developing interventions such as regular training programs a

Methodological quality(risk of bias)assessment is an important step before study initiation usage.Therefore,accurately judging study type is the first priority,and the choosing proper tool is also important.In this review,we introduced methodological quality assessment tools for randomized controlled trial(including individual and cluster),animal study,non-randomized interventional studies(including follow-up study,controlled before-and-after study,before-after/pre-post study,uncontrolled longitudinal study,interrupted time series study),cohort study,case-control study,cross-sectional study(including analytical and descriptive),observational case series and case reports,comparative effectiveness research,diagnostic study,health economic evaluation,prediction study(including predictor finding study,prediction model impact study,prognostic prediction model study),qualitative study,outcome measurement instruments(including patient-reported outcome measure development,content validity,structural validity,internal consistency,cross-cultural validity/measurement invariance,reliability,measurement error,criterion validity,hypotheses testing for construct validity,and responsiveness),systematic review and meta-analysis,and clinical practice guideline.The readers of our review can distinguish the types of medical studies and choose appropriate tools.In one word,comprehensively mastering relevant knowledge and implementing more practices are basic requirements for correctly assessing the methodological quality.

Passive Smoking in China: Contributing Factors and Areas for Future Interventions

To reduce tobacco consumption and exposure to passive smoking in China.Methods Discussion consisting of 80 focus groups and 35 interviews were held in three rural intervention counties of Jiangxi,Henan,and Sichuan Provinces. Participants came from hospitals,schools,rural areas,and urban areas.Results Tobacco use and exposure to passive smoking were widely prevalent in the investigated schools,hospitals,county towns,and rural areas. Knowledge of the risks for passive smoking on health is lacking,especially in rural areas. Barriers to the control of tobacco use in public places include reluctance of administrators to implement tobacco control policies,lack of consistent policies,difficulties with regulations and enforcement,and reluctance of non-smokers to exercise their right to clean air.Conclusion To curb the current tobacco epidemic in China,tobacco control efforts must focus on reducing exposure to passive smoking. A strategy should be formulated to reduce the factors that contribute to tobacco use and exposure to passive smoking.

Objective: Physical restraint is frequently used in medical services,such as in mental health settings,intensive care units and nursing homes,but its nature varies in different institutions.By reviewing related literature,this study aims to clarify the concept of physical restraint in mental health nursing.Method: Three databases (PubMed,PsyclNFO and CINAHL) were retrieved,and Walker and Avant's concept analysis method was used to analyze the concept of physical restraint in mental health nursing.Results: Physical restraint is a coercive approach that enables the administration of necessary treatment by safely reducing the patient's physical movement.It should be the last option used by qualified personnel.Antecedents of physical restraint are improper behavior (violence and disturbance) of patients,medical assessment prior to implementation and legislation governing clinical usage.Consequences of physical restraint are alleviation of conflict,physical injury,mental trauma and invisible impact on the institution.Discussion: This study defined the characteristics of physical restraint in mental health nursing.The proposed concept analysis provided theoretical foundation for future studies.

Feasibility study of Enforcing Immunization Certificate Check Before Primary School or Kindergarten Enrollment in Guizhou Province, China

Objective To study the feasibility of enforcing immunization certificate check before children enroll in primary schools or kindergartens in Guizhou Province. Methods Quantitative and qualitative studies were conducted. The multi-stage and cluster sampling approach was adopted for the quantitative part of the study. A questionnaire was designed and 996 children and their keepers were interviewed. Principals, doctors or teachers of the primary schools, directors and child care nurses of kindergarten, and staff of immunization agencies were invited to take part in 12 focus group discussions; meanwhile, face-to-face individual in-depth interviews with 16 officials of the Health, Education and Governmental Departments at various levels were conducted. Results The total number of subjects was 996. 16.7% of the children in the study completed all the procedures of the National Immunization Programme. 34.3% of them had immunization certificates while the remainder 44.7% registered in immunization agencies. Factors, including the migrant children, doubt about vaccine efficiency, mother’s occupation and educational background, knowledge of the National Immunization Programme on targeted vaccines, played an important role in obtaining or not immunization certificates. 95% of the keepers interviewed thought the immunization certificates were useful; 94.8% of them considered the check was critical while only 3.6% of them thought it unnecessary. The first reason from those who found it unnecessary was that they feared that repeated immunization might affect their children’s health. The second reason was the cost of immunization, which some of them could not afford to pay. However, the Health Department expressed a favorable attitude to the checking scheme. Though the Education Department agreed that the scheme was essential, they worried that it would affect the enrollment rate.Conclusion In spite of the difficulty in administering immunization certificate check, the effort would be rewarding for raising the immunization cove

Gendered partner selection among overseas Chinese in the West and the motivations behind it

Studies up to now have shown the difference in partner/spouse selection between men and women of ethnic minority groups overseas but lack in-depth exploration of the reasons behind such selection.This study aims to fill the gap by exploring the different types of motivations that drive men and women of ethnic minorities to select their partners/spouses.Using quantitative and qualitative data,we compared partner/spouse selection dynamics and motivations among overseas Chinese men and women.Our study on Chinese people living in Belgium reveal significant gender differences in spouse selection between men and women,with more women likely to go in for intermarriage than men.In our interviews,we found that the underlying motivations for women’s preference for intermarriage lie in their fondness for Western family culture and their desire to make the host country their permanent home.We also found that in their partner-spouse selection,women were less influenced by social norms or pressure from parents and family,which are the main factors driving endogamy.Although the gender ratio in the marriage market is more or less even,cultural factors and possible different adaptation methods of men and women prompt Chinese people to consider or reject their compatriots as suitable partners/spouses.
