MoS_2 saturable absorber prepared by chemical vapor deposition method for nonlinear control in q-switching fiber laser

Due to the remarkable carrier mobility and nonlinear characteristic, MoS2 is considered to be a powerful competitor as an effective optical modulated material in fiber lasers. In this paper, the MoS2 films are prepared by the chemical vapor deposition method to guarantee the high quality of the crystal lattice and uniform thickness. The transfer of the films to microfiber and the operation of gold plated films ensure there is no heat-resistant damage and anti-oxidation. The modulation depth of the prepared integrated microfiber-MoS2 saturable absorber is 11.07%. When the microfiber-MoS2 saturable absorber is used as a light modulator in the q-switching fiber laser, the stable pulse train with a pulse duration of 888 ns at 1530.9 nm is obtained. The ultimate output power and pulse energy of output pulses are 18.8 mW and 88 nJ, respectively. The signal-to-noise ratio up to 60 dB indicates the good stability of the laser. This work demonstrates that the MoS2 saturable absorber prepared by the chemical vapor deposition method can serve as an effective nonlinear control device for the q-switching fiber laser.

In this work,we reported a new strategy to improve the nonlinear saturable absorption performance of magnetite(Fe_(3)O_(4))nanoparticles(FONPs)via the compositional engineering with the Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene in the near-infrared(NIR)region.Based on the DFT simulation,the band structures and work function were significantly modified by the Ti_(3)C_(2) MXene doping.By using the open-aperture Z-scan technology,the nonlinear optical features of the FONPs@Ti_(3)C_(2) nanocomposite were significantly improved,showing the great potential as the saturable absorber in the pulsed laser.With the nanocomposite as the saturable absorber,the passively q-switched Nd:GdVO4 lasers emitted much shorter pulse durations when compared with the pristine FONP saturable absorber.These findings indicated that FONPs@Ti_(3)C_(2) heterostructure was a promising saturable absorber for the short pulse generation in the NIR region.

Stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS)in a certain medium generates efficientlyphase-conjugate waves,as has been reported theoretically and experimentally.The propo-sal to obtain the phase-conjugate resonator mirror by the four-wave mixing has been putforward and verified by experiments.In experiments,we obtained the high-power laserwith excellent beam quality by the SBS phase-conjugate resonator,and q-switching was gen-erated simultaneously.

We present a passively q-switched Yb：KGW laser based on a transmission-type saturable absorber of topological insulator：Bi2Se3.The saturable absorber is prepared on a 0.17-mm glass substrate and can translate intra-cavity for best performance nearly without influence on the laser mode.At a maximum pump power of 13.7 W,the central wavelength,pulse duration,repetition rate,and pulse energy of q-switched pulse are 1043 nm,1.5 μs,175.4 kHz,6.39 μJ,respectively.The maximum output power is 1.12 W.To our knowledge,this is the highest average output power from passively qswitched lasers with topological insulator saturable absorbers.

Fe^2+:ZnSe thin films are prepared on sapphire substrate at room temperature by electron beam evaporation and then annealed in vacuum(about 1×10^-4 Pa)at different temperatures.The influences of thermal annealing on the structural and optical properties of these films such as grain size and optical transmittance are investigated.The x-ray diffraction patterns show that the Fe2+:ZnSe thin film is preferred to be oriented along the(111)plane at different annealing temperatures.After the film is annealed,the full-width-at-half-maximum(FWHM)of the x-ray diffraction peak profile(111)of the film decreases and its crystal quality is improved.Scanning electron microscope images show that the films are more dense after being annealed.Finally,the sample is used as a saturable absorber in ZBLAN fiber laser.The annealed Fe^2+:ZnSe thin films can be used to realize stable q-switching modulation on ZBLAN fiber laser.The results demonstrate that the Fe2+:ZnSe thin film is a promising material for generating the high-power pulses of mid-infrared q-switched fiber lasers.

We report on a tandem-pumped actively q-switched fiber laser system emitting at 1120 nm.Parasitic oscillation is challenging in Yb-doped q-switched 1120-nm fiber laser,which is suppressed by pumping with a fiber laser at 1018 nm.At least four times improvement in output peak power is demonstrated in a single laser setup with 1018-nm fiber laser pumping instead of 976-nm laser diode pumping.This is,to the best of our knowledge,the first demonstration of a tandem-pumped q-switched fiber laser.

An acoustic-optic q-switched all-fiber laser With a high-repetition-rate, a short pulse width, a wide spectrum, and a high conversion efficiency is experimentally demonstrated. In the laser configuration, a （1＋1）x 1 side-pumping coupler is introduced to perform backward pumping, and a 10/130%tm Yb fiber is adopted. The acoustic-optic component operates in the first direction, achieving a q-switched pulse with a repetition rate adjustable in the range of 20 kHz-80 kHz. Under a repetition rate of 20 kHz and a pump power of 6.76 W, the fiber laser obtains a highly efficient and stable pulse output, with an average power of 4.3 W, a pulse width of 56 ns, a peak power of 3.83 kW, and a power density of 1.39x 101~ W/cm2. Particularly, the optic-optic conversion efficiency of the laser reaches as high as 64%. Another feature of the pulsed laser is that the high reflection mirror reflects the pump light as well, which brings the secondary absorption of the pump power into the gain fiber.

We demonstrate a passively q-switched Yb：LSO laser based on tungsten disulphide （WS2） saturable absorber op- erating at 1034 nm and 1056 nm simultaneously. The saturable absorbers were fabricated by spin coating method. With low speed, the WS2 nanoplatelets embedded in polyvinyl alcohol could be coated on a BK7 glass substrate coated with high-refractive-index thin polymer. The shortest pulse width of 1.6 gs with a repetition rate of 76.9 kHz is obtained. As the pump power increases to 9 W, the maximum output power is measured to be 250 mW, corresponding to a single pulse energy of 3.25 μJ. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to obtain dual-wavelength q-switched solid-state laser using few-layer WS2 nanoplatelets.
