In the context of ongoing densification of cities and aging urban populations,public spaces are a crucial infrastructure to support the physical and mental wellbeing of urban *** design of public space furniture elements is often standardised,and not considered in relation to environmental conditions and mechanisms of social *** article presents a digital workflow to generate site-specific designs for shaded public seating,considering the relationships of local public places to their surroundings.A strategy for customised and site-specific design is developed through the use of multiple software tools,employing evolutionary algorithms and multi-objective *** method is applied to a small public space canopy prototype installed within a public housing estate in Hong Kong,incorporating additional criteria to achieve a low-cost and light-weight *** multiple stages of refinement and optimisation,a material,structural and social performance-driven outcome was achieved that creates a shaded space for public seating,people watching and social *** part of a larger research agenda exploring architectural form-finding and environmental psychology,the project represents potential new applications in the emerging field of socially driven computational design.

Obesity and global warming are two major challengesthat affect communities’health and quality of *** good walking environments,with appropriate pedestrian infrastructure,green areas and access to commercial retail and transport hubs favour liveable,healthy,and sustainable *** Lisbon City Hall has implemented an intervention program in the public space as a strategy to improve environmental quality and mitigate the effects of climate *** program“A square in each neighbourhood”intends not only to reinforce the economic base of Lisbon,namely tourism,restaurants,commerce,and creative activities but also to promote physical activity and improve the quality of living of all *** studying the impact of the public space quality on the walking environment,Campolide,a typical Lisbon neighbourhood,Portugal,which includes one of the requalified squares,was selected.A two-step methodology based on spatial modelling is *** the first step,the public space quality was evaluated based on a set of 13 urban quality ***,intended for the street level,were collected from open data platforms and complemented with a field ***,through spatial analysis,these attributes were used to build the Pedestrian Environment Quality Indicator and the Priority Intervention *** these indicators,walking-friendly streets were mapped and the most critical sites that require priority intervention were identified to prepare for the requalification planning *** street with the highest quality in the study area according to the dimensions evaluated-connectivity,convenience,comfort,cleanliness,and conviviality-has a great offer of trees,bus stops,commercial establishments,commercial diversity,crossings,paper bins/eco points and *** the opposite side of the rank,the street with the lowest quality has no trees or green areas,transport stops,benches and tables,or commercial *** urban quality indicators constitu

Purpose:During the past decades,China has seen a rapid urbanization that has(re)shaped not only its city landscape but also(re)created public space where children live,play,and ***,litle research has focused on how urban public space influences young children's learning and development and how parents navigate children's development in the public ***,this research aims to study how public space influences parents'engagement with their young ***/Approach/Methods:This study is informed of Bronfenbrenner's Processes,Person,Context,and Time(PPCT)model that sees children's learning as complex and multilateral interactions among various stakeholders including schools,families,and *** employed ethnographic approach to study the interactions between children and their parents in a public playground in a Western Chinese ***:It found that parents realized public space had been reshaped by *** they accompanied their children to play,they actively monitored children's safety and cultivated children's physical and social *** this process,male parents tended to contribute more than they would do in other ***/Value:This study fills the gap by providing a nuanced study exploring how parents fulfill their responsibilities in an integral space of children's development,which has rarely been explored.

There are a large number of old communities in Chinese cities that urgently need to be updated and ***,the old community renewal in the past mostly focused on the transformation of physical environment with a single *** is a lack of in-depth thinking about the problems presented by the public space in the old communities,and it is necessary to focus on *** continuous occurrence of public health incidents has increased the pressure on urban development,and old communities have become shortcomings in such *** is a topic worthy to study whether the emergency design update of public spaces can supplement the shortcomings of old communities in public health *** on the background of public health emergencies,combined with the theory of resilient cities,the study analyzes the emergency design of public space in the old communities and conducts a research on the renewal strategy,taking the No.4 Courtyard of Luochengtou Community in Handan City as an *** improvement strategies of management,transportation,structure and space are specifically put forward,in order to provide reference for the emergency design update of old communities.

The paper reviews the evolution of western urban space,and outlines the transition of western cities from production bases to consumption *** then addresses the debate as to whether public space has been alostw under the strong influence of contemporary consumerist *** paper observes that public space is likely to have exercised a high extent of privatisation,commodification,and symbolic manipulation to create exclusive and homogenised ***,it also finds out that the critique of loss potentially devalues the positive effects of consumerist culture and neglects the experiences of *** paper draws conclusions that public space should be only understood in relation to concrete social and physical contexts,and that consumption is both enabling and *** conclusions can hopefully illuminate urban designers and researchers who are being engaged with urban public spaces.

Based on related theories on the evaluation of city plan implementation and the empirical study on Caoyang-Xincun, a residential quarter in Shanghai, the paper explores the community plan implementation from the perspective of public space. And with the differences and conformities between the plan's blueprint and the reality as the breakthrough point, the paper points out that in terms of differences, the implementation of the Caoyang-Xincun plan has neglected the construction of public space, which influenced the general quality of public life of the residents, while in terms of conformities, the implementation of the plan has produced a positive impact on current public life in the community.

In 1980, Giancarlo de Carlo wrote in the Perspecta： Yale Journal, ＂An Architecture of the Participation＂. Carlo, proposed a sequence of procedures： the problem definition, the solution and the results evaluation, in all the three steps, the social communities should be integrated in as part of a share and dynamic process. This text corresponds to a new way of understanding the importance of the social communities in the architecture definition. From de Carlo＇s text, the main goal of this paper is to present the results of an intervention in public space renewal of the Lagarteiro neighborhood （in Oporto city） and the relation of this process with the participation of the resident population. The urban context of Lagarteiro＇s neighborhood presented before the intervention the typical and classic signs of disqualification of environmental and urban peripheral areas of resettlement. The term ＂disadvantaged areas＂ is associated with these areas in urban or peri-urban case, was framed in a specific Portuguese policy, called Initiative Critical Neighborhoods. Being a recent intervention, the renewal of the public space in Lagarteiro is a complete case study that allows comprehending the participation phenomenon in nowadays, at the same time that seduces a reflexion about technical and architectural solutions for ＂critical＂ neighborhood.
