Interleukin-2(IL-2)is a pleiotropic cytokine that orchestrates bidirectional immune responses via regulatory T cells(Tregs)and effector cells,leading to paradoxical ***,we report a strategy that exploited genetic code expansion-guided incorporation of the latent bioreactive artificial amino acid fluorosulfate-L-tyrosine(FSY)into IL-2 for proximity-enabled covalent binding to IL-2Rαto selectively promote Treg *** found that FSY-bearing IL-2 variants,such as L72-FSY,covalently bound to IL-2Rαvia sulfur-fluoride exchange when in proximity,resulting in persistent recycling of IL-2 and selectively promoting the expansion of Tregs but not effector *** assessment of L72-FSY-expanded Tregs demonstrated that L72-FSY maintained Tregs in a central memory phenotype without driving terminal differentiation,as demonstrated by simultaneously attenuated expression of lymphocyte activation gene-3(LAG-3)and enhanced expression of programmed cell death protein-1(PD-1).Subcutaneous administration of L72-FSY in murine models of pristane-induced lupus and graft-versus-host disease(GvHD)resulted in enhanced and sustained therapeutic efficacy compared with wild-type IL-2 *** efficacy of L72-FSY was further improved by N-terminal PEGylation,which increased its circulatory retention for preferential and sustained *** proximity-enabled covalent binding strategy may accelerate the development of pleiotropic cytokines as a new class of immunomodulatory therapies.

Electronic communication service providers are obliged to retain communication data for a certain amount of time by their local laws. The retained communication data or the communication logs are used in various applications such as crime detection, viral marketing, analytical study, and so on. Many of these applications rely on effective techniques for analyzing communication logs. In this paper, we focus on measuring the proximity between two communication entities, which is a fundamental and important step toward further analysis of communication logs, and propose a new proximity measure called ESP （Efficient and Spam-Robust proximity measure）. Our proposed measure considers only the （graph- theoretically） shortest paths between two entities and gives small values to those between spam-like entities and others. Thus, it is not only computationally efficient but also spam-robust. By conducting several experiments on real and synthetic datasets, we show that our proposed proximity measure is more accurate, computationally efficient and spam-robust than the existing measures in most cases.

Currently, prosthetic hands can only achieve several prespecified and discrete hand motion patterns from popular myoelectric control schemes using electromyography(EMG) signals. To achieve continuous and stable grasping within the discrete motion pattern, this paper proposes a control strategy using a customized, flexible capacitance-based proximity-tactile sensor. This sensor is integrated at the fingertip and measures the distance and force before and after contact with an object. During the pregrasping phase, each fingertip’s position is controlled based on the distance between the fingertip and the object to make all fingertips synchronously approach the object at the same distance. Once contact is established, the sensor turns to output the tactile information, by which the contact force of each fingertip is finely controlled. Finally, the method is introduced into the human-machine interaction control for a myoelectric prosthetic hand. The experimental results demonstrate that continuous and stable grasping could be achieved by the proposed control method within the subject’s discrete EMG motion mode. The subject also obtained tactile feedback through the transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation after contact.

The virtual network embedding/mapping problem is a core issue of network virtualization. It is concerned mainly with how to map virtual network requests to the substrate network efficiently. There are two steps in this problem: node mapping and link mapping. Current studies mainly focus on developing heuristic algorithms, since both steps are computationally intractable. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm based on the proximity principle, which considers the distance factor besides the capacity factor in the node mapping step. Thus, the two steps of the embedding problem can be better integrated and the substrate network resource can be used more efficiently. Simulation results show that the new algorithm greatly enhances the performance of the revenue/cost (R/C) ratio, acceptance ratio, and runtime of the embedding problem.

Palmer and Rock proposed that uniform connectedness (UC) occurs prior to classical Gestalt factors to define the primitive units for visual perception. Han, Humphreys and Chen, how-ever, found that grouping by proximity can take place as quickly as that based on UC in a letter discrimination task. The present study employed a letter detection task to examine the relationship between UC and proximity grouping in 3 experiments. We showed that reaction times to targets defined by proximity or UC were equally fast when one or two global objects were presented in the visual field. However, as the number of global objects was increased, responses were faster to targets defined by UC than to targets defined by proximity. In addition, the advantage of UC over proximity was not affected by the space between global objects. The results suggest that UC was more effective than proximity in forming perceptual units under multiple object conditions. Possible reasons for this finding are discussed.
