The Monte Santo Alkaline Intrusive Suite (MSAIS) is an association syenite foid, nepheline syenite and syenite, which are intruded in metapelites of the Rio do Coco meta-volcanic-sedimentary Sequence, presenting abundant pegmathoid veins cutting all of them. The ages obtained by Shrimp (1051 ± 22 Ma, 1048 ± 11 Ma) are very close those younger age obtained by U-Pb laser ablation (1056 ± 21), beeing interpreted as crystallization age. These dating reveal also that MSAIS rocks were affected by common succession of younger events below 550 Ma ago, responsible by the later rocky bodies of varying composition occurring in the region, including the alkaline pegmatites hosted in the nepheline syenite of the MSAIS.

The ten Provinces of Zambia were surveyed to determine number and size of game ranches situated in these areas up to the end of 2012/early 2013. Three classes of game ranches were developed as;1) ≥500 hectares as game ranch proper, 2) ≥50 - Provinces, Luapula, Western and Northern Provinces despite being largely rural with low population densities except for Luapula did not have any game ranch. The Province with the largest number was Lusaka 71(36%), Southern 59 (30%), Central 31(16%), Copperbelt 19 (10%), Eastern and Northwestern 9 (4.5% each) and Muchinga was the least with 2 (1%). The rapid increase in the number of ornamental category is mainly attributed to the rise in the development of tourist accommodation facilities and high cost residential properties. This growth provides an opportunity to convert to game ranching schemes abandoned farmlands which are not currently useful to agriculture due to loss of fertility and other forms of land degradation. Similarly, parcels of land with natural ecological limitations should also be considered for such schemes. Rehabilitation of degraded land through ranching could also enhance carbon sequestration, a factor critical in minimizing carbon emissions and other green house gases.

Introduction: Adequate information about patient using health care facilities is a critical element in planning activities and allocation resources in health sector. In Iran, with performing family physician plan and attempt to reform referral system, the study of mobility of patients between regions (patient migration) has more importance. The aims of the study are: 1) to describe patients’ migration across cities of Iranian Kerman Province;2) to analyze the role of possible determinants affecting the mobility flows. Methodology: using hospital inpatient records of all public hospitals around Kerman Province during 2011, we run logit models that compare patients who were admitted in hospital and received health services in cities where they lived and patients received them out of their local hospitals. We studied 21 patient groups according to ICD10 chapters (Appendix 1) to compute the effect of geographic distance, kind of insurance, number of physiccians involved, hospital bed and patient demographic factors. Results: About 40 percent of hospital admissions in Kerman are emigrant patients that quality or quantity of local provided services didn’t satisfy. Constant negative coefficients of geographic distance, hospitals physician and bed and positive coefficients for insurance in all groups do not show any difference in patient migration, between groups. Discussion: According to results of this research, existence of local services, distance, kind of illness and other factors are not more important than patients’ feeling about services in their migration. Paying no attention to this reality in planning health system reforms, especially referral systems, leads to important problems for health system in equity, patient satisfaction and finance aspects.

The Monte Santo Alkaline Intrusive Suite (MSAIS) is an association syenite foid, nepheline syenite and syenite. The MSAIS rocks are intruded in metapelites of the Rio do Coco meta-volcanic-sedi- mentary Sequence and are abundant pegmathoid veins cutting all of them. The mineral paragenesis is represented by aegirina, arfvedsonite, albite and nepheline, crystallized during the initial phase of crystallization. A late magmatic phase show nepheline, perthite, calcite and biotite, and a hydrothermal phase allowed for the formation of cancrinite, sodalite, analcime and natrolita associated with altered nepheline. The geochemical analyses showed metaluminous and medium to high potassium characteristics, being classified as miaskitic rocks, according to agpaicity and the Na + K > 1/6Si indexes. However, the mineralogical assemblage suggests a low to medium agpaitic composition, which can be related to a transition from miaskitic to agpaitic crystallization regime. The rare earth elements showed depletion in heavy rare earth and a strong negative Eu anomaly and enrichments in the some lithophile elements, suggesting a differentiated pattern later, which can be associated to metasomatic alterations.

Antimicrobial resistance is a major problem in the management of infectious diseases. African indigenous functional food-plants such as Chenopodium album and Solanum nigrum may constitute important sources of phytochemical constituents for the synthesis of antimicrobial compounds against infectious organisms. The objective of this study was to determine the antimicrobial pro- perties of Chenopodium album and Solanum nigrum-leaves used as functional food-plants in the O.R. Tambo district municipality of South Africa. Organic and aqueous solvent-extracts of C. album and S. nigrum were tested against Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 29213), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC127853), Bacillus subtilis (ATCC 6051), Escherichia coli (25922) and Enterococcus faecalis (51299) using standard microbiological techniques. Ciprofloxacin was included in all the experimental runs as positive control antibiotic. The aqueous extracts of both plants were the most active with zones of inhibition diameters ranging from 0 mm - 20 mm and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC50) values ranging from 0.63 mg/mL - 10 mg/mL. The positive control antibiotic was highly active with zones of inhibition diameters ranging from 17 mm - 31 mm and MIC50 values from 0.0003 mg/mL - 0.0005mg/mL for all the bacteria tested. Both extracts were bactericidal with minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) ranges from 2.5mg/mL - 20mg/mL. From the results, it can be concluded that both plants possess compounds with antimicrobial properties, thus validating scientifically their use in traditional medicine. However, more studies to document the respective plant-principles responsible for antimicrobial activity of these plants would shed more light on their functional properties.

A Review of Carbonatite Occurrences in Italy and Evaluation of Origins

This review and evaluation seeks to clarify the controversial origins of the Umbria-Latium Ultra-alkaline District (ULUD) and the Vulture carbonatitic occurrence (Intramontane Ultra-alkaline Province, IUP) and their relation to the Roman Comagmatic Province (RCP). Generally, the geochemical and isotopic features of the IUP can be linked to those of the RCP. Hence, the rocks of the ULUD district, together with part of the Tuscan and Roman Province generated in the last 2 Ma can be ascribed to a complex interplay of two subduction events related to magmatism associated with the European and Adria slabs associated with the effect of a slab window below the Italian Peninsular. Carbonate sediments together with pelagic-terrigenous sediment played a major role in the metasomatism of the mantle wedge beneath the IUP, and perhaps all along the transect from southern Italy (Eolian Islands magmatism) to north-central Italy (Tuscan and Umbria magmatism). A diffuse CO2 + H2O metasomatic front produced the condition necessary for the formation of carbonatitic magmatism. However, even where carbonatites are related to continental rift system (i.e., OIB), an origin for MORB-sediment convective recycling melting in the mantle has been hypothesized [i.e., 1].

A large variation in elevation and gravity anomaly prevails from the Red Sea coast to the interior of the Arabian Shield (AS) across the Asir Igneous Province (AIP);The Asir Mountain (AM) is developed on AIP. Here the elevation varies from 45 - 2700 m, corresponding changes in F.A. are from –30 to + 220 mgal and B.A. from +22 to –175 mgal. Regression relationships between elevation and gravity anomalies demonstrate significant changes in trend at about 400 m threshold of elevation across the pediment west of AM, at about 45 km inland of the shoreline, flanking the Hizaz-Asir Escarpment (HAE). Gravity anomaly variation along a traverse taken across HAE and AIP is interpreted here in terms of anomalous masses in crust as well as due to deeper crustal configuration. 2D gravity interpretation is, in part, constrained by surface geology, available geologic cross-sections for crust, interpretations from the IRIS Deep-Seismic Refraction Line, and to a lesser extent by the available gross results from shear-wave splitting and receiver function analysis. The gravity model provides probable solutions for the first time on geometric configuration and geophysical identification: a) for the seaward margin of the mid-Tertiary Mafic Crust (TMC) below sediment cover of the Asir pediment that coincides with the 400 m threshold elevation. This signifies an anomalous uplift at the rifting phase. Moho below TMC extends from 10 - 22 km depth across HAE and west margin of AIP, b). Thinned continental crust below the Asir margin whose upper layer coincides with a seismic reflector is at about 22 km depth, c). Rift-margin characteristic detachment fault associated with basaltic flows on top surface of TMC at its inner margin, d). Two geologically mapped low-angle normal faults dipping to the east developed between the basic rocks intruding the AIP and e). felsic pluton farther east within AS. Dynamic tracing of space-time evolution pattern of wave velocity ratio before the Lijiang earthquake with M=7.0 occurred on February 3, 1996 in northwestern Yunnan. We compared the Ninglang earthquakes with M=6.7 and M=6.4 which occurred on November 7 and December 13. 1976, 90 km away from the Lijiang earthquake. We found that the space-time evolution patterns of velocity that various authors’ studied at different times are very similar.Anomaly areas of wave velocity ratio with high values appeared in the seismogenic areas 5 -7 years before the strong earthquake. Anomalies with low values in large areas appeared 3-4 years before the earthquake. Once again the anomaly areas of wave velocity ratio with high values appear in a lower range 1 ~2 years before. The strong earthquake occurred in the overlapping area of two high value anomaly areas, surrounded by the anomaly areas with low values. The monthly mean values of wave velocity ratio before the two strong earthquakes had maintained low value

A new sauropterygian, Anshunsaurus huangguoshuensis, is described on the basis of a well-preserved skull from the Late Triassic Wayao Member of Falang Formation, Guizhou Province, southwestern China. It is ascribed to Eusauropterygia because it possesses the following characters: the rostrum is mainly composed by the premaxillae; the nasals are small,paired and separated from one another by the premaxillae; the external nares are close to the orbits; and the frontals are fused. Anshunsaurus differs from other Triassic sauropterygians in its large size, long rostrum and the supratemporal fenestrae slightly smaller than orbits. It is further considered to be closely related to Pistosaurus on the basis of the nasals contact with the prefrontals; large pineal foramen, lain in the anterior part of the parietal table; the squamosals not in contact posterior to the supratemporal fenestra. The discovery of Anshunsaurus with the ichthyosaurs in the same locality indicates a new assemblage of Triassic marine
