Prior or Concomitant Drinking of Vegetable Juice with a Meal Attenuates postprandial blood glucose Elevation in Healthy Young Adults

Controlling postprandial blood glucose levels can prevent and improve lifestyle-related diseases. We aimed to evaluate the effects of a commercially available vegetable juice, which is a convenient alternative to vegetables, on postprandial glucose elevation. In test 1, we confirmed the appropriate timing to consume the vegetable juice (200 mL), and demonstrated that postprandial glucose elevation was attenuated by drinking the vegetable juice with or before the experimental meal. The change in maximum concentration (ΔCmax) of blood glucose was the lowest when the vegetable juice was consumed at 30 min before the meal. In test 2, we confirmed the necessary ingestion volumes of vegetable juice (range: 68.5 - 274 mL) for attenuating the response to 50 g of carbohydrates. After drinking 200 mL of vegetable juice, the ΔCmax and incremental area under the curve values for blood glucose were significantly lower than those for after drinking the same volume of water (p postprandial blood glucose elevation. Stimulation of insulin secretion due to the pre-meal vegetable juice intake may contribute to this effect, although further studies are needed to identify the detailed mechanism for the attenuation.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between postprandial blood glucose(PBG),fasting insulin(FINS),and glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c)levels and early diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 ***:96 cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus treated in our hospital from May 2021 to May 2022 were selected as the research *** patients were divided into two groups according to the urinary albumin excretion rate(UAER),with 53 cases in the type 2 diabetes group(UAER<30μg/min)and 43 cases in the early diabetic nephropathy group(30μg/min≤UAER<300μg/min).PBG,FINS,and HbA1c levels were detected in 87 healthy ***:The levels of PBG,FINS,and HbA1c in the early diabetic nephropathy group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.01)and the type 2 diabetes group(P<0.01).Conclusion:PBG,FINS,and HbA1c are factors affecting the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes;thus,controlling the levels of PBG,FINS,and HbA1c can effectively prevent the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy in type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The Dangjo chili pepper(DJ)has been reported to contain various compounds withα-glucosidase inhibitory ***,the hypoglycemic effect of DJ and the active ingredients responsible have not been fully ***,the current study aimed to examine DJ as a novelα-glucosidase inhibitor for the prevention of *** identification of metabolites and the assessment ofα-glucosidase inhibitory activity was conducted in three chili pepper *** uptake inhibition by DJ ethanol extract(DJE)was evaluated in Caco-2 ***,an oral carbohydrate tolerance test was performed in C57BL/6 mice.A total of 18 metabolites were identified in Dangjo,Green,and Cucumber chili *** these,quercitrin was one the most abundant flavonoid in *** DJ showed the highest inhibition ofα-glucosidase activity against both maltose and sucrose compared to other *** addition,isoorientin,quercitrin,and DJE had similar inhibitory activities for both *** uptake was significantly inhibited in the DJE group compared to the control *** mice were orally administered freeze-dried DJ at 150 and 300 mg/kg body weight(B.W.),and blood glucose levels were *** glucose loading,both groups had significantly reduced blood glucose concentration compared to the control group(p=0.001).Under maltose loading,the blood glucose concentration was decreased in the 150 mg/kg *** compared to the control group(p=0.025).These results indicate that Dangjo chili pepper has the potential to function as a postprandial hypoglycemic agent by inhibiting theα-glucosidase activity.

Hydrogen sulphide(H2 S) is generated endogenouslyfrom L-cysteine(L-Cys) by the enzymes cystathionine-β-synthase(CBS) and cystathionine-γ-lyase(CSE).In addition,L-Cys is commonly used as a precursor in the food and pharmaceutical *** aim of the present study was to determine whether L-Cys regulates intestinal nutrient *** that end,using,the presence of CBS and CSE in the jejuna epithelium and that thegenerates H2 S by immunohistochemistry,Western blotting and the methylene blue *** addition,in vivo,L-Cys(100 mg/kg,administered immediately after the glucose load)significantly increased blood glucose levels30 min after the oral administration of glucoseto *** effect of L-Cys was completely blocked by amino-oxyacetic acid(AOA;50 mg/kg;administered at the same time with L-Cys) an inhibitor of *** of the short-circuit current(Isc) in the rat jejunum epithelium revealed that L-Cys(lmmol/L;6 min before the administration of L-alanine)enhances Na+-coupled L-alanine or glucose transport,and that this effect is inhibited by AOA(1 mmol/L;10 min before the administration of L-Cys),but not D,L-propargylglycine(PAG;lmmol/L;10 min before the administration of L-Cys),a CSE ***,L-Cys—evoked enhancement of nutrient transport was alleviated by glibenclamide(Gli;0.1 mmol/L;lOmin before the administration of L-Cys),a K-channel ***,the dataindicate that L-Cys enhances jejunal nutrient transport,suggesting a new approach to future treatment of nutrition-related maladies,including a range of serious health consequences linked to undernutrition.
