Modeling method for SSC prediction in pomelo using Vis-NIRS with wavelength selection and latent variable updating

The aim of this study was in-line,rapid,and non-destructive detection for soluble solid content(SSC)in pomelos using visible and near-infrared spectroscopy(Vis-NIRS).However,the large size and thick rind of pomelo affect the stability of spectral acquisition and the biological variabilities affect the robustness of models.Given these issues,in this study,an efficient prototype in-line detection system in transmittance mode was designed and evaluated in comparison with an off-line detection system.Data from the years 2019 and 2020 were used for modeling and the external validation data were obtained by the inline detection system in 2021.The wavelength selection methods of changeable size moving window(CSMW),random frog(RF),and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling(CARS)were used to improve the prediction accuracy of partial least squares regression(PLSR)models.The best performance of internal prediction was obtained by CARS-PLSR and the determination coefficient of prediction(),root mean square error of prediction(RMSEP),and residual predictive deviation(RPD)were 0.958,0.204%,and 4.821,respectively.However,all models obtained large prediction biases in external validation.The latent variable updating(LVU)method was proposed to update models and improve the performance in external validation.Ten samples from the external validation set were randomly selected to update the models.Compared with the recalibration method,LVU could effectively modify the original models which matched the SSC range of the external validation set.The CSMW-PLSR models were more robust in external validations.The off-line model with LVU performed best with a root mean square error of validation(RMSEV)of 0.599%and the in-line model with recalibration obtained RMSEV of 0.864%.These results demonstrated the application potential of the transmittance Vis-NIRS for in-line rapid prediction of SSC in pomelos and the modeling and updating methods could be applied to samples with biological variabilities.

pomelo biochar as an electron acceptor to modify graphitic carbon nitride for boosting visible-light-driven photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline

In this study,biochar(BC)derived from pomelo was prepared via a high-temperature calcination method to modify the graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))to synthesize the BC/g-C_(3)N_(4)composite for the degradation of the tetracycline(TC)antibiotic under visible light irradiation.The experimental results exhibit that the optimal feeding weight ratio of biochar/urea is 0.03:1 in BC/g-C_(3)N_(4)composite could show the best photocatalytic activity with the degradation rate of tetracycline is 83%in 100 min irradiation.The improvement of photocatalytic activity is mainly attributed to the following two points:(i)the strong bonding with π-π stacking between BC and g-C_(3)N_(4)make the photogenerated electrons of light-excited g-C_(3)N_(4)transfer to BC,quickly and improve the separation efficiency of carriers;(ii)the introduction of BC reduces the distance for photogenerated electrons to migrate to the surface and increases the specific surface area for providing more active sites.This study provides a sustainable,economical and promising method for the synthesis of photocatalytic materials their application to wastewater treatment.

Glycemic Index, Glycemic Load, and Glycemic Response to pomelo in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Food intake has a great influence on blood glucose in patients with diabetes. This study was to determine the glycemic index（GI） and glycemic load（GL） of a particular pomelo named Majia pomelo and its effects on postprandial glucose（PPG） in patients with type 2 diabetes（T2D）. Twenty healthy subjects and 20 T2D patients（controlled on lifestyle measures and/or metformin） were tested on 2 separate days with 50 g of glucose and 50 g equivalent of carbohydrates from Majia pomelo for GI measurement. To test effects of Majia pomelo on PPG, 19 hospitalized T2D patients（controlled on insulin therapy） were selected for a 9-day study. The dose of insulin for each patient was adjusted on the first 3 days. A total of 100 g Majia pomelo was consumed per meal in the last 3 tested days. Blood glucose was measured to evaluate the glycemic excursions. The GIs for Majia pomelo in healthy individuals and T2D patients were 78.34±1.88 and 72.15±1.95 respectively. The value of GL was as low as 4.23 in diabetic patients with serving size of 100 g pomelo, indicting Majia pomelo as a high GI but low GL fruit. Consumption of Majia pomelo in hospitalized T2D patients did not cause significant glucose fluctuation. It was concluded that high GI pomelo can serve as a low GL fruit if it is consumed with a limited daily amount and thus can be supplied to diabetic patients. These results may mean more varieties of food choices for T2D patients.

This study investigated the removal of hexavalent chromium(Cr(VI)) in aqueous solutions using pomelo peel(PP) and FeCl3-modified pomelo peel(FPP) as novel biomass adsorbents.Batch adsorption experiments were performed to evaluate the effects of pH,time,temperature,initial concentration,and adsorbent dose on Cr(VI) removal by PP and FPP.The results show that the maximum adsorption capacity of Cr(VI)was 21.55 mg/g for FPP and 0.57 mg/g for PP at a pH of 2.0 and a temperature of 40℃.The surface shape,microstructure,and chemical composition of FPP were analyzed with scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),and compared with those of PP.The results show that the adsorption performance of FPP was much better than that of PP,indicating that FPP can be an alternative high-efficiency adsorbent for Cr(VI) removal.

Thoughts on the Development Planning of pomelo Industry in Meizhou City

pomelo industry is one of the mainstay industries with most unique regional characteristics in Meizhou City,South China. This paper analyzed the status,development advantages and problems of pomelo industry and discussed on brand-based industry transformation and updating in order to provide references for expanding and strengthening pomelo industry. Meizhou City is the second largest prefecture-level city of pomelo production in China,where the cultivating area is up to 40 000 ha and the yield is over 900 000 t. With the expansion of industry scale,there were bottlenecks of pomelo industry in Meizhou City including industrial restructuring and upgrading. The paper analyzed the development status and existing problems of pomelo industry based on investigation and survey. Some corresponding strategies were also proposed for pomelo industry in Meizhou City.

Genetic Diversity of Jinsha pomelo and Its Closely-related Germplasms Assessed by SSR Molecular Markers

SSR molecular markers were used to analyze the genetic diversity of 8 Jinsha pomelo germplasm and its closely-related varieties from main planting area in Jiangxi Province. A total of 92 alleles were detected from 26 pairs of selected primers with 53. 68% of polymorphism. The alleles detected per locus were ranged from 2 to 8. On average,3. 54 alleles were amplified from per pair of primers. The similarity coefficients of the 8 varieties were in the range of 0. 729-0. 924.According to the genetic similarities based on UPGMA method,all materials were divided into two groups of Jinlan pomelo and Shatian pomelo at the similarity coefficient of 0. 738.

In situ synthesis of biomass-derived Ni/C catalyst by self-reduction for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid to γ-valerolactone

Herein,we reported in situ synthesis of biomass-derived Ni/C catalyst by self-reduction with pomelo peel.Compared with the conventional method, which includes carbonization, activation, impregnation and reduction, the entire preparation process was simplified to two steps, which was more straightforward. This synthesis method was green as Ni/C can be prepared without any additional chemical and the self-reduction process was realized in N2, which can avoid using H2 thus averting some problems such as storage, transportation and safety of H2. Meanwhile, the size and dispersion of Ni particles can be controlled by changing carbonization temperature.The synthesis mechanism of Ni/C catalyst with selfreduction was investigated, which was mainly attributed to the carbon and reducing gas produced during the carbonization process.For the catalytic performance of GVL synthesis, a high yield (94.5%) can be obtained and it exhibited good stability up to 5 cycles without obvious loss of catalytic activity.
