Comparison of exogenous degrader-enhanced bioremediation with low-dose persulfate oxidation for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon removal in alkaline soil:efficiency and influence on ecological health

polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon(PAH)-contaminated soils are usually complex and characterized by a lack of nutrition and soil salinization,resulting in difficulties in soil *** this study,bioaugmentation with a PAH-degrading Bacillus PheN7(BA)and low-dose persulfate oxidation(PS),along with natural biodegradation,were utilized to remediate alkaline PAH-contaminated *** soil used in the study had a pH of 9.35,and the total PAH content was 568.8±31.0 mg/kg dry *** 42 d of remediation,the degradation efficiency of PAHs was 96.72%and 93.88%using persulfate oxidation and bioaugmentation,respectively,whereas 38.66%of PAHs were degraded in natural attenuation(NA).Bacillus was the dominant genera throughout the process of bioremediation with the relative abundance of 79.3%on day 42 in the BA system,whereas,Alcanivorax was enriched and became the dominant genera in PS *** the meantime,PAH degradation genes were detected with remarkably higher level in the BA system than in PS system during the *** addition to the degradation of contaminants,persulfate oxidation promotes microbial bioremediation efficiency mainly by lowering the pH to neutral and increasing the active phosphorus content in the *** species and ecological niches were less reduced in the PS system than in the BA ***,persulfate oxidation had a better impact on the soil microbiome and is more suitable for long-term soil health than bioaugmentation through PheN7 addition.

Novel boron-and sulfur-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon as multiple resonance emitter for ultrapure blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence polymers

Boron(B)-and sulfur(S)-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)are developed as a novel kind of multiple resonance emitters for ultrapure blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence(TADF)polymers with narrowband *** combination of electron-deficient B atom and electron-rich S atom in PAH can form an intramolecular push-pull electronic system in a rigid aromatic framework,leading to reduced singlet-triplet energy splitting and limited structure relaxation of excited *** critical roles of S atom in determining emission properties with respect to the oxygen analogues are in two aspects:(i)reducing energy bandgap to shift emission from human-eye-insensitive ultraviolet zone to blue region,and(ii)promoting reverse intersystem crossing process by heavy-atom effect to activate TADF *** resulting polymer containing B,S-doped PAH as emitter and acridan as host exhibits efficient blue electroluminescence at 458 nm with small full-width at halfmaximum of 31 nm,representing the first example for ultrapure TADF polymer with narrowband electroluminescence.

Bioremediation of Total polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil Using Nitrified Sawdust and Pseudomonas auriginosa

Bioremediation involving bioaugmentation and biostimulation are eco-friendly existing methods for degrading polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in contaminated soils. This study investigates the efficiency of Pseudomonas auriginosa and nutrient-enriched sawdust (SD) in biodegrading ∑PAHs in contaminated soil (CS). Four compost mixtures of CS/SD (1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3) were applied for 2, 4, 6, 8-week bio-cleanup after inoculation. Results show ∑PAHs concentrations decreased with increasing time of treatment for all four compost in experimental and control setups. The removal efficiency of ∑PAHs was clearly associated with nutrient-enriched sawdust and Pseudomonas auriginosa, especially for 3:1, 1:1, and 1:3 ratios. Both factors had a significant effect (p = 0.05) on removal efficiency compared to the control setup. The highest (78.5%) and lowest (37.8%) ∑PAHs removal efficiency were observed for CS/SD ratios of 1:3 and 1:0 respectively after 8-week treatment. In this instance, this study recommends a CS/SD ratio of 1:3 at 8-week treatment to achieve maximum removal efficiency of ∑PAHs in contaminated soils.

Global hypomethylation,gene-specific methylation and genome instability are common events in *** date,few studies have examined the aberrant DNA methylation patterns in coke oven workers,who are highly at risk for lung cancer by occupational exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons（PAHs）.We recruited83 PAH-exposed workers and 62 unexposed controls,assessed exposure levels by urinary 1-hydroxypyrene,and measured genetic damages by comet assay,bleomycin sensitivity and cytokinesis-block micronucleus（CBMN） *** used pyrosequencing to quantitate DNA methylation in long interspersed nuclear element-1（LINE-1） and MGMT;bisulfite sequencing to examine the methylation status of RASSF1 a promoter in peripheral blood lymphocytes（PBLs）.Further,the methylation alteration was also investigated in COE-treated human bronchial epithelial（16HBE） cells and human primary *** found lower levels of LINE-1 and MGMT methylation（with CpG site specificity） in PAH-exposed ***-1,MGMT and its hot CpG site-specific methylation were negatively correlated to urinary 1-hydroxypyrene levels（r =-0.329,p ＜ 0.001;r=-0.164,p=0.049 and r=-0.176,p=0.034,respectively）.The methylation levels of RASSF1 a hot CpG sites were positively correlated with the concentration of urinary 1-OHP（β =0.98,p= 0.001） and the frequency of CBMN（β = 1.29,p= 0.019）.In addition,LINE-1 methylation was inversely associated with comet tail moment and micronucleus frequency,and a significant increase in micronucleus in low MGMT methylation *** vitro study revealed that treatment of COE in 16 HBE cells resulted in higher production of BPDE-DNA adducts,LINE-1 hypomethylation,hypomethylation and suppression of MGMT expression,hot CpG site hypermethylation and the corresponding down-regulation of RASSFla *** summary,aberrant DNA methylation on genome and specific genes could be used as markers for PAHs exposure and early detection in high cancer-risk population.

Effects of Forest Filtering and Cold Trapping on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons Distribution in Southeast Tibet

New pollutants in remote regions have become a global issue of *** study collected soil,lichen,moss,and air samples from the high mountain area of southeastern Tibet to analyze the altitude pollution distribution of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)and the related influencing *** results revealed that the average levels ofΣ6PAH in soil,moss,lichen,and air samples were 46.8 ng/g dry weight(dw),140.6 ng/g dw,712.0 ng/g dw,and 60.1 ng/m^(3),*** and phenanthrene were the most abundant individual isomers,and 2–4 rings PAHs accounted for approximately 90%of the totalΣPAH concentration in the *** apportionment analysis highlighted the impact of atmospheric PAH inputs on this ***/air distribution factor(K_(oa)),altitude,plant coverage,and soil organic matter were the key determinants of PAH concentration along the altitudinal *** all the soil sampling sites,the average contribution of the forest filter effect(FFE)was greater than that of the mountain cold trapping effect based on the principal component analysis and multiple linear *** findings of this study strengthened the reasons for the preferential accumulation of organic pollutants in the high-altitude mountainous area,and provided important insights for effective environmental strategies of new pollutants.

Evaluation of solubility of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in ethyl lactate/water versus ethanol/water mixtures for contaminated soil remediation applications

Solubility data of recalcitrant contaminants in cosolvents is essential to determine their potential applications in enhanced soil *** solubilities of phenanthrene,anthracene,fluoranthene and benzo[a]pyrene in ethyl lactate/water and ethanol/water mixtures were measured using equilibrium *** cosolvency powers derived from solubility data were then applied to the model developed from the solvophobic approach to predict the capability of ethyl lactate and ethanol in enhancing the desorption of contaminants from *** ethyl lactate and ethanol cosolvents were shown to be able to enhance the solubilisation of the tested four polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons by 〉 4 orders of magnitude above the levels obtained with water ***,ethyl lactate demonstrated a greater capacity to enhance PAH solubility than *** cosolvency powers of ethyl lactate/water system obtained from the end-to-end slope （σ） and the end-to-half slope （σ 0.5） of the solubilisation curve were 1.0-1.5 and 2.0-2.9 higher than ethanol/water system *** line with this,ethyl lactate/water was demonstrated to enhance the desorption of contaminants from soil by 20%-37% and 18%-61% higher compared to ethanol/water system in low organic content and high organic content soils respectively,with a 2：1 （V/W） ratio of solution：soil and with cosolvent fraction as low as *** the exception of benzo[a]pyrene,the experimental desorption results agreed fairly with the predicted values,under an applied solution：soil ratio that was enough to hold the capacity of released contaminants.

Biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in sediments from the Daliao River watershed, China

The Daliao River, as an important water system in Northeast China, was reported to be heavily polluted by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons （PAHs）. Aerobic biodegradations of four selected PAHs （naphthalene, phenanthrene, fluorene and anthracene） alone or in their mixture in river sediments from the Daliao River water systems were studied in microcosm systems. Effects of additional carbon source, inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus, temperature variation on PAHs degradation were also investigated. Results showed that the degradation of phenanthrene in water alone system was faster than that in water-sediment combined system. Degradation of phenanthrene in sediment was enhanced by adding yeast extract and ammonium, but retarded by adding sodium acetate and not significantly influenced by adding phosphate. Although PAHs could also be biodegraded in sediment under low temperature （5~C）, much lower degradation rate was observed. Sediments from the three main streams of the Daliao River water system （the Hun River, the Taizi River and the Daliao River） demonstrated different degradation capacities and patterns to four PAHs. Average removal rates （15 or 19 d） of naphthalene, phenanthrene, fluorene and anthracene by sediment were in the range of 0.062-0.087, 0.005-0.066, 0.008- 0.016 and 0-0.059 mg/（L.d）, respectively. As a result, naphthalene was most easily degraded compound, anthracene was the hardest one. In multiple PAHs systems, the interactions between PAHs influenced each PAH biodegradation.

Sources and distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons of different glaciers over the Tibetan Plateau

Twenty snow samples were collected from the Qiyi glacier in Qilian Mountains,the Yuzhufeng glacier in eastern Kunlun Mountains,the Xiaodongkemadi glacier in Tanggula Mountains,and the Gurenhekou glacier in Nyainqêntanglha Range over the Tibetan *** concentration and distribution features of sixteen priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined by gas chromatography equipped with a mass spectrometry detector (GC-MS).The sources of these PAHs were explored as *** results indicated that the average concentrations of PAHs in snow were in the range of 20.45 60.57 ng/*** PAHs levels were found in the YZF glacier andminimum in the XDKMD ***,no apparent regional distribution pattern of PAHs was found in the glaciers over the Tibetan ***,the 2 4 ring low molecular weight PAHs predominated in snow samples and the concentrations of phenanthrene was the *** factor analysis and isomer pair ratios suggested that PAHs of glaciers over the Tibetan Plateau were derived from low temperature combustion of coal and biomass,and partially from the exhaust gas of *** mass back trajectory indicated that organic compounds detected in snowpit of these four glaciers,in the period of time they represented,mainly came from Central Asia and the arid area of Northwest China by westerly wind circulation.

While heteroatom doping serves as a powerful strategy for devising novel polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs), the further fine-tuning of optoelectronic properties via the precisely altering of doping patterns remains a challenge. Herein, by changing the doping positions of heteroatoms in a diindenopyrene skeleton, we report two isomeric boron, sulfur-embedded PAHs, named Anti-B_(2)S_(2) and Syn-B_(2)S_(2), as electron transporting semiconductors. Detailed structure-property relationship studies revealed that the varied heteroatom positions not only change their physicochemical properties, but also largely affect their solid-state packing modes and Lewis base-triggered photophysical responses. With their low-lying frontier molecular orbital levels, n-type characteristics with electron mobilities up to 1.5 × 10^(-3)cm^(2)V^(-1)s^(-1)were achieved in solution-processed organic field-effect transistors. Our work revealed the critical role of controlling heteroatom doping patterns for designing advanced PAHs.
