We demonstrate theoretically that two-dimensional photonic bandgap materials are indeed perfect polarizers provided that they have a proper photonic band structure along the incident direction of *** kind of polarizer is fundamentally different from the conventional *** can function in a wide frequency range with high performance and its size can be made very compact,which renders it useful as a micropolarizer in micro-optics.

An indium tin oxide(ITO) and silicon nitride(Si_(3)N_(4)) assisted compact TE-pass waveguide polarizer based on lithiumniobate-on-insulator is proposed and numerically *** properly designing the ITO and Si_(3)N_(4) assisted structure and utilizing the epsilon-near-zero effect of ITO,the TM mode is strongly confined in the ITO layer with extremely high loss,while the TE mode is hardly affected and passes through the waveguide with low *** simulation results show that the polarizer has an extinction ratio of 22.5 dB and an insertion loss of 0.8 dB at the wavelength of 1.55 μm,and has an operating bandwidth of about 125 nm(from 1540 nm to 1665 nm) for an extinction ratio of>20 dB and an insertion loss of<0.95 ***,the proposed device exhibits large fabrication *** notably,the device is compact,with a length of only 7.5 μm,and is appropriate for on-chip applications.

Pancharatnam–Berry(PB)phase metasurface,as a special class of gradient metasurfaces,has been paid much attention owing to the robust performance for phase control of circularly polarized ***,we present an element-based polarizer for the first step,which enables the incident electromagnetic waves into the cross-polarized waves with the relative bandwidth of 71%,and the polarization conversion ratio exceeds 90%at 6.9–14.5 *** an eight-elements coding polarizer based on the PB phase is presented for the applications on beam control and radar cross section *** simulated values indicate that the reduction of radar cross section is more than 10 dB at 6–16 *** work reveals the availability of manipulating the waves,beamforming in communication systems and electromagnetic stealth,and so on.

Nanodiamond(ND)polarizer can be used for dynamic nuclear polarization(DNP),owing to unpaired electrons provided by surface ***,^(1)H enhancement via Overhauser DNP(ODNP)using ND in-situ liquid has been found much smaller than traditional ***,we study the surface properties of ND using electron spin resonance(ESR)and Raman methods *** the enhancement of^(1)H ODNP is explored using ND as polarizer with different nanoparticle sizes and concentrations at home-built 0.06 T DNP *** surface of ND with the size of 30 nm is further modification via high temperature air oxidized and the enhancement was *** results show that nanoparticle sizes and Raman peak intensity ratio of sp^(2)/sp^(3)hybridization are approximate negative correlation and positive correlation to enhancement,***,there is no significant enhancement in the oxidation group,and a−22.5-fold^(1)H ODNP enhancement is achieved in-situ liquid at room temperature,which demonstrate the ND can be used as an efficient *** expect ND to play a greater role in biomedical research,especially for multimodal imaging with improving the performance of ND surface.

A TM-pass polarizer based on multilayer graphene polymer waveguide is proposed and theoretically *** mode properties,the extinction ratio,the insertion loss and the bandwidth are also *** results show that a TM-pass polarizer,which only guides the TM mode,can be achieved by multilayer graphene polymer *** length of 150μm,the proposed polarizer can achieve extinction ratio of 33 dB and insertion loss of 0.5 d B at optical wavelength of 1.55μ*** device has an excellent performance,including large extinction ratio and low insertion loss within the spectral range from 1.45μm to 1.6μm.

An in-line high efficient polarizer, composed of magnetic-ionic-liquid-adorned(MIL-adorned) hollow-core anti-resonant fiber(HARF), is theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The protocol is based on the selective conversion of polarization mode into leaky mode and attenuates quickly in MIL and the polarizer is featured by the magnetically tunable polarization extinction ratio(PER) and the thermally controllable operation bandwidth.

polarizers have been widely used in various optical systems to reduce polarization cross *** polarizers based on the silicon nanowire waveguide can provide chip-scale device size and a high polarization extinction ***,the working bandwidth for the on-chip silicon polarizers is always limited(polarizer with an extremely broad working bandwidth is proposed and *** device is based on a 180°sharp waveguide bend,assisted with anisotropic subwavelength grating(SWG)metamaterial cladding to enhance the polarization *** TE polarization,the effective refractive index for SWG is extraordinary,so the incident TE mode can propagate through the sharp waveguide *** TM polarization,the effective refractive index for SWG is ordinary,so the incident TM mode will be coupled into the radiation mode regardless of the *** fabricated polarizer shows low loss(20 d B)over a>415 nm bandwidth from1.26 to 1.675μm,which is at least fourfold better than what has been demonstrated in all previous *** the best of our knowledge,such a device is the first all-silicon polarizer that covers O-,E-,S-,C-,L-,and U-bands.

A low-loss hybrid plasmonic transverse magnetic(TM)-pass polarizer has been demonstrated utilizing polarization-dependent mode *** advantage of the silicon hybrid plasmonic slot waveguide(HPSW),the unwanted transverse electric(TE)fundamental mode can be efficiently converted first to a TM higher-order mode and then suppressed by a power combiner,while the retained TM fundamental mode can pass through with negligible *** the HPSW feature both strong structural asymmetry and a small interaction area in the cross-section between the metal and optical field,the optimized insertion loss of the device is as low as 0.4 d *** the wavelength of 1550 nm,the extinction ratio is 28.3 d B with a moderate footprint of 2.38μm×10μ*** the entire C band,the average reflection of the TE mode is suppressed below-14 d B,and the extinction ratio is over 18.6 d *** work provides another more efficient and effective approach for better on-chip polarizers.
