A novel fiber-laser-based fiber Bragg grating strain sensor with high-birefringence Sagnac fiber loop mirror

A novel fiber-laser-based strain sensor is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The laser cavity is composed of a high-birefringence Sagnac fiber loop mirror （HiBi-SFLM） and a fiber Bragg grating （FBG） which also acts as a strain-sensing element. In the linear region of the HiBi-SFLM reflection spectrum, when the strain applied on the FBG makes the Bragg grating wavelength shift, the laser output power changes due to refleetivity variation of the HiBi-SFLM. Experimental results show that the laser output power varies almost linearly with the applied strain. The measurement of the output power can be performed by a conventional photo-detector.

A self-starting simple structured dual-wavelength passively mode-locked(ML)erbium-doped fiber(EDF)laser is proposed in this *** all-fiber ring cavity is adopted and a transmission-type semiconductor saturable absorber is used as *** this laser,there are two gain humps located at the 1530 nm region and the 1550 nm region,*** with the length of EDF increasing,the intensity of the hump at 1530 nm region is gradually suppressed because of the re-absorption of emission by the ground *** the proper length of EDF,the gain intensities of two regions are very *** the pump power is above the ML threshold,the self-starting dual-wavelength ML operation is achieved easily without manual *** two spectral peaks with close intensities are located at 1532 and 1552 nm,*** effect of intracavity dispersion on the output spectrum is also experimentally demonstrated.
