Evaluation of ecosystem services of Chinese pine forests in China

Evaluation of forest ecosystem services is a hot topic,both in China and at abroad,but it has not yet obtained a consistency of evaluation indicator systems and evaluation *** the framework of evaluation criteria to be implemented for forest ecosystem services,years of consecutive observation data from Long Term Ecological Research Stations affiliated to Chinese Forest Ecosystem Research Network(CFERN),forest resource inventory and public data were applied to carry out a detailed and dynamic evaluation on the physical quantity and value of ecosystem services of Chinese pine forests in *** results showed that the above services had the total value and unit value of 1144.9640 billion(1.1449640×10 12 )RMB and 52.074 thousand RMB per hectare per year,respectively during the 9th Five-year Plan(1996―2000),and of 1190.5461 billion RMB and 52.101 thousand RMB per hectare per year,respectively,during the 10th Five-year Plan(2001―2005).For Chinese pine forests,water conservation was 40.40 hundred million cubic meters annually,soil conservation was 67 million tons and C fixation 9 million tons annually,production of healthful negative ions was 1.96×10 20 , absorption of SO2 was 5.02 hundred million kilograms and dust-catching was 759.10 hundred million kilograms. Among the 15 provinces of China with Chinese pine forests,the biggest beneficiary from ecosystem services was Liaoning Province;while Hunan Province was the smallest beneficiary between the 9th Five-year Plan.

Canopy gap characteristics and its influence on the regeneration of broad-leaved Korean pine forests in Changbai Mountain

With the concem of regcneration, characteristics of canopy gaps in broad-leaved Korean pine forest were *** areas of actual gap, expanded gap and maximum gap were analyzed respectively. The species composition, number, origin,decayed class and sizes of gap makers were studied comprehensively. The comparative studies of regencration inside and outside of canopy gap showed that the density of regeneration inside canopy gaps was 30% higher than that outside canopy gaps. The specific species regeneration response to canopy gap varied greatly. Pinus koraiensis, Picea jezoensis Frarinlis nla)ldshurica, JItghI)ls )nalJholu-i`a and Acer mono generally did not response to canopy gap disturbance. The Regeneration Importantce Valuc (RIV) of Abies nephrolepis, Ulmus Japonica increased with canopy gap disturbance. RIV of Tilia amurensis, Acer madshurica and Ulmus laciniata decreased with canopy gap disturbance. Canopy gap disturbance was not strong enough to result in the regeneration of some rpecies of shade intolerance such as Larix olgensis, Betula platyphylla.

THE NATURAL REGENERATION PATTERN AND PROCESS OF KOREAN pine POPULATION UNDER NATURAL POPLAR-BIRCH FOREST IN XIAOXING'AN MOUNTAINS

According to a great deal of field investigation and detailed indoor analysis, the natural regeneration pattern and process of Korean pine poputation under natural Poplar-birch forest has been uncovered. The results show that the regeneration quantity and quality of Korean pme population under mountamous Poplar-birch forest and mountamous white birch forest are better than those under valley moss-grass White Bireh forest and virgin broad-leaved Korean pine forest. Korean pine population shows aggregated distribution, the mass-oceurrence period of Korean pine populalion is behind the mass-occurrence period of Poplar-bireh population. Various aged Korean pines growth is affected by different stand structure factors. Man-made lighting tending can accelerate the regeneration process and inercase the regeneration quality of Korean pine population. It is feasible to set up regeneration recombination of upper layer White Birch and lower layer Korean pines.

ENERGY DISTRIBUTION AND BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTIVITY IN KOREAN pine PLANTATION

This investigation was carried out with the 28-year-old korean pine plantation in Maoershan Area of Heilonaiiang Province. The paper revealed the character of energy distribution in korean pine plantation. The total solar radiations reaching the canopy were discussed respectively and the change pattern of radiation in the forest were analyzed in detail. The solar radiation received by canopy counts up to 2580. 64 MJ/m2in growth season, of which. direct solar radiation is 1508. 52 MJ/m2 and scattered radiation 1072. 12 MJ/m’. The radiation energy reaching the forest land surface thronghthe canoPy is 277. 25MJ/m2, with a transmissivity of about 10. 74%- The net production formed by photosynthesis of forest is 16. 89 MJ/m2 and the net radiation reception by the ecosystem comes to 1091. 88 MJ/m2 during growth seasons, therefore the utilisation effciency of solar radiation energy derived ffom the net radiation taken as basis is 1. 55% in the korean pine plantation.

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS ON THE LITTER IN KOREAN pine MONGOLIAN SCOTS pine AND DAHURIAN LARCH PLANTATIONS(Ⅰ) AMOUNT AND FLUCTUATION OF LITTER FALL

Investigations were made in korean pine, mongolian scots pine and dahurian larch plantations in Laoshan Plantation Experiment Station of Maoershan Experiment Forest Farm of Northeast Forestry University. Data are tabulated on the amount and seasonal and annual nuctuations of fractional composition of the litter (conifer needles, branches, cones, bark scales, broad leaves) in the three plantations. The accounts of conifer needle branch and bark scale litter are as follows: korean pine: 71- 16%, 6. 23% and 7. 32%; mongolian scots pine: 43. 65%, 18. 52 % and 32. 12%; dahurian larch:90. 30%, 7. 83% and 1. 85%. There are certain broadleaf litter in dahurian larch and mongolian scots pine plantations (account for 7. 61% and 8. 92%respectively). The litter wither and fall concent ratively in autumn in dahurian larch plantation and scattered all year long in korean pine and mongolian scots pine plantations. Along with the increase of stand age, the absolute amount of litter tend to increase, the relative amount of main fractional compositions (conifer needle, branch and bark scale) in korean pine and mongolian Scots pine plantations maintain stead, whereas in dahurian larch plantation, the relative amount of conifer needle is decreased gradually and the relative amount of other fractional compositions are increased gradually.

Studies on the Dynamics of Endogenous GAs, ABA and IAA in the Shoot Apex of Chinese pine in Relation to Male Cone Bud Initiation

The endogenous GAs, ABA and IAA in the shoot apices of 8-year-old Chinese pines, flowered, non-flowered and non-flowered but treated with GA4/7 were analyzed by *** results demonstrated that GA3 and GA9 levels were obviously higher in flowered plants than in non-flowered. A peak value of GA3 in flowered plants occurred after appearance of the earliest auxiliary bud primorda which had the possibility of transforming into male cone bud primordia and before the morphological initiation of male cone bud primordia. Exogenously applied GA4/7 could enhance the endogenous GA3 and GA9, this may benefit the promotion of male cone buds in Chinese pine. The relations among ex-ogenously applied GA4/7 endogenous GAs, ABA and IAA in the shoot apices, and the initiation of male cone bud are discussed.

Toward a Decision Support System for Integrated Pest Management of pine Caterpillar

A decision support system for IPM of the pine caterpillar, Dendrolimus spectabilis Buter, DS-IPM-DSS, has recently been developed using a GW-0520 CH microcomputer. The software system consists of , a Model Base and its Management System, a Database and its Management System, a Control Program, a Problem Analysis Program, and a User’s Interface System. Also further development aimed at expanding the DS-IPM-DSS into a more generalized and flexible package, i. e., making it helpful in creating computer-based system for other forest insect pests, are discussed.

The generation identification of Korean pine forest is diseussed from a variety of aspects. Traditional methods of generation identification (according to age strueture or morphological data) are thought to be inaceurate. Only when the connotation of generation is expanded, that is, the spatial property be considered, can the generation be identitied correctly and digensis be explained reasonably.

STUDY ON DYNAMICS OF STEM FORM OF KOREAN pine TREES IN NATURAL FOREST STAND

A new method was proposed to study the dynamics of stem form of matural Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis) trec. In natural Korean pine forest, the occurring time of maximum height and diameter is very difference. This paper connected stem form to stage of tree growth to analysis the form dynamic of Korean pine. The monomolecular equation was chosen as the stem model. The result shows that the maximum growth year of natural Korean pine is earlier than diameter.

STUDY OF STRUCTURE AND DYNAMICS OF KOREAN pine FOREST IN THE XIAOXING′AN MOUNTAINS

The thesis for the Doctorate consist of two parts. The first is to study on structure, dynamics and tree growth of natural Korean pine forest. The second is to research for tree architecture, growth and stand structure of artificial Korean pine (Pinus koraienstj) *** thesis comparcs the stand structure, process of regeneratio n, and various tree growth patterns between natural forests and artificial forests. Its purpose is to give a basis for forest management and silviculture. The study was carried out in Liangshui Experimental Forest Farm, which is located in the southern Xiaoxing’an Mountains.
