In the design of wind turbine foundations for offshore wind farms, the wave load and run-up slamming on the supporting structure are the quantities that need to be considered. Because of a special arc transition, the interaction between the wave field and the composite bucket foundation(CBF) becomes complicated. In this study, the hydrodynamic characteristics, including wave pressure, load, upwelling, and run-up, around the arc transition of a CBF influenced by regular waves are investigated through physical tests at Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, Ocean University of China. The distributions of the wave pressures and upwelling ratios around the CBF are described, and the relationship between the wave load and the wave parameters is discussed. New formulae based on the velocity stagnation head theory with linear wave theory and the second-order Stokes wave theory for wave kinematics are proposed to estimate the wave run-up. Moreover, the multiple regression method with nonlinear technology is employed to deduce an empirical formula for predicting run-up heights. Results show that the non-dimensional wave load increases with the increase in the values of the wave scattering parameter and relative wave height. The wave upwelling height is high in front of the CBF and has the lowest value at an angle of 135? with the incoming wave direction. The performance of the new formulae proposed in this study is compared using statistical indices to demonstrate that a good fit is obtained by the multiple regression method and the analytical model based on the velocity stagnation head theory is underdeveloped.

A Mathematical Model to Characterize RH Desulfurization Process

A physical model based on similarity principles was built to simulate RH desulfurization process. In order to quantitatively analyze RH desulfurization process, a mathematical model was proposed. By analyzing experimental results with the mathematical model, an empirical formula whose determination coefficient was 0.98 was given to express the relationship between transient desulfurization efficiency and time. All the determination coefficients of four fitted curves based on four repeated experiments with different gas flow rates were more than 0.94, which was the exact evidence of the rationality of the empirical formula. Meanwhile, it was found that transient desulfurization ability increased firstly and then decreased with increasing gas flow rate and reached the maximum value when the gas flow rate was 1.8 m^3/h. A plenty of repeated trials showed the same rule, which validated the mathematical model and the conclusions obtained from physical experiments.

Flow-induced vegetation uprooting in a meandering bend:experimental investigation

Vegetation uprooting is a complex process which depends on many interrelated factors. In this paper,attention is focused on the flow-induced uprooting in river bends, where the flow characteristics vary as effected by the channel's curvature and its continuous changing in the downstream direction. Results are presented by an experimental work done in a high-amplitude meandering flume with mature herbaceous vegetation on the bed. In the first part of the paper, the variation along the bend of the geometrical(length, thickness, and radical architecture) and the mechanical(resistance force) characteristics of the roots are analyzed. In the second part of the paper, the transition from the condition of vegetation distributed on the bed to the condition of vegetation uprooted by the flow is experimentally *** results show that the flow-induced uprooting varies along the bend depending on the roots' geometrical and mechanical characteristics which are, in turn, influenced by the variation of the water surface elevation along the bend itself. It has been found that lower values of the resistance force occur at the apex section where the roots are characterized by higher values of length and lower values of thickness and have radical apparatuses characterized by limited encumbrance, a high number of roots,and low bushyness. The flow-induced uprooting especially develops close to the outer bank along the channel reach between the bend entrance and the apex section, where the root resistance force and the water surface slope tend to decrease in value.

This paper presents a novel experiment to observe the whole water entry process of a free-falling sphere into a regular wave.A time-accurate synchronizing system modulates the moment elaborately to ensure the sphere impacting onto the water surface at the desirable wave *** high-speed cameras focus locally to measure the high-precision size of the cavity ***,the aggregated field view of the camera array covers both the splash above the free surface and the entire cavity in the *** detailed methodologies are described and verified for the hardware set-up and the image *** theoretical maximum deviation is 1.7%on the space *** integral morphology of the cavity is captured precisely in the coordinate system during the sphere penetrates through the water at four representative wave phases and the still *** result shows that the horizontal velocity of the fluid particle in the wave impels the cavity and changes the shape ***,the wave motion causes the cavity to pinch offearlier at the wave trough phase and later at the wave crest phase than in the still *** wave motion influences the falling process of the sphere slightly in the present parameters.

Processes of dike-break induced flows:A combined experimental and numerical model study

Dike breaking is a disaster that could cause extensive damage. It could lead to flood flows outside the dike and induce water level fluctuations in the main channel. Numerical models are increasingly used to simulate flood flows due to dike-break, because direct observations from field surveys and physical models are rather limited. Existing knowledge concerning dam-break flows cannot be applied directly to dike-break flows because the effect of channel discharge cannot be neglected in the latter. In this study,physical experiments are done in a large laboratory flume to simulate the process of dike-break induced flood wave propagation in the floodplain and flow fluctuations in the main channel. The variations of water levels and velocities are measured and recorded using an array of pressure sensors and two acoustic Doppler velocimetry devices. A numerical model has been set up according to the experimental layout. The experiments have high repeatability and the numerical model predictions agree closely with the physical model data. The experimental results provide reliable information for improving the understanding of dike-break flow dynamics and for the verification of numerical models.

In this paper,a non-along track imaging mode for remote sensing of satellite is introduced,and a ground experiment verification method is proposed,the feasibility of the control scheme is verified by mathematical simulation and physical *** control requirements of satellite attitude in the non-along track imaging process are analyzed,based on the quaternion feedback control method proposed by Bong Wie,the attitude maneuver control law satisfying various constraints is *** constructing a small three axis air bearing table control system and camera imaging system,the non-along track imaging scheme is *** experimental results show that the pointing control accuracy is better than 0.05°,the tracking accuracy of attitude angular velocity is better than 0.005°/s,and the imaging result of non-along track is good.
