The effects of film thickness and composition ratio on the morphology evolution of polystyrene （PS）/poly（vinyl methyl ether）（PVME） blend thin films were investigated. Diverse morphology evolutions including droplet-matrix structure, hole emergence, bicontinuous structure formation, percolation-to-droplet transition could be observed under annealing in two-phase region, depending on film thickness and composition ratio. The mechanism for these morphology variations was related to the complex effects of phase separation, dewetting and preferential wetting. The comparison between the thickness of bottom PVME layer and the twice of gyration radius 2Rg（PVME） played a dominant role in morphology control. Only when the PS/PVME film had specific film thickness and compositional symmetry, phase separation and dewetting could happen in sequence.

The magnetic behavior and the transport behavior of La0.67-x Smx Sr0.33 MnO3 （x = 0. 00, 0. 10, 0. 20, 0. 30, 0. 40, 0. 50 and 0. 60 ） systems were studied through measuring the M-T curves, electron spin resonance （ ESR ） curves and ρ-T curves. The samples exhibit a long-range ferromagnetic order when x = 0. 00, 0. 10, a cluster-spin glass state when x = 0. 20 and 0. 30, and an anti-ferromagnetic state at low temperatures when x = 0. 40, 0. 50 and 0. 60. The samples of x = 0. 30 and 0.40 show phase separation at temperatures above Te. The transport behavior of the sample of x = 0. 60 becomes abnormal when the doping is high, and an insulator-metal transition occurs near To and then a metal-insulator transition occurs, which rarely appears in an ABO3 structure. It is concluded that the magnetic and electric behavior changes of the systems depend on the extra magnetism and lattice distortion effect induced by Sm doping.

Computer simulations were performed to study the dense mixtures of passive particles and active particles in two *** systems with different kinds of passive particles(e.g.,spherical particles and rod-like particles)were *** small active forces,the high-density and low-density regions emerge in both systems,indicating a phase *** higher active forces,the systems return to a homogeneous state with large fluctuation of particle area in contrast with the thermo-equilibrium ***,the rod-like particles accumulate loosely due to the shape anisotropy compared with the spherical particles at the high-density ***,there exists a positive correlation between Voronoi area and velocity of the ***,a small number of active particles capably give rise to super-diffusion of passive particles in both systems when the self-propelled force is turned on.

phase separation in Sr doped BiMnO3 （Bil_xSrxMnO3, x = 0.4-0.6） was studied by means of temperature-dependent high-resolution neutron powder diffraction （NPD）, high resolution X-ray powder diffraction （XRD）, and physical property measurements. All the experiments indicate that a phase separation occurs at the temperature coinciding with the reported charge ordering temperature （Tco） in the literature. Below the reported TCO, both the phases resulting from the phase separation crystallize in the orthorhombically distorted perovskite structure with space group Imma. At lower temperature, these two phases order in the CE-type antiferromagnetic structure and the A-type antiferromagnetic structure, respectively. However, a scrutiny of the high-resolution NPD and XRD data at different temperatures and the electron diffraction exper- iment at 300 K did not manifest any evidence of a long-range charge ordering （CO） in our investigated samples, suggesting that the anomalies of physical properties such as magnetization, electric transport, and lattice parameters at the TCO might be caused by the phase separation rather than by a CO transition.

A nanoscale Fe56.5Mn11Cr8.5Ni4Si10C10 metallic glass was irradiated by electron beam in a 200 kV trans- mission electron microscope. Structure evolution in the metallic glass was investigated in situ during continuous irradi- ation, where phase separation was observed after irradiation for 5 min and crystallization was observed after 33.5 min. Based on the analysis of irradiation effect, atomic displacement is believed to be the main reason for the structure rearrangement. Accumulation of atomic displacement increases the energy of the sample and promotes atomic diffusion during transformation. On the other hand, the large specific surface area of the sample also contributes to increasing free energy and atomic diffusion.

A fundamental challenge for cells is how to coordinate various biochemical reactions in space and time. To achieve spatiotemporal control, cells have developed organelles that are surrounded by lipid bilayer membranes. Further, membraneless compartmentalization, a process induced by dynamic physical association of biomolecules through phase transition offers another efficient mechanism for intracellular organization. While our understanding of phase separation was predominantly dependent on yeast and animal models, recent findings have provided compelling evidence for emerging roles of phase separation in plants. In this review, we first provide an overview of the current knowledge of phase separation, including its definition, biophysical principles, molecular features and regulatory mechanisms. Then we summarize plant-specific phase separation phenomena and describe their functions in plant biological processes in great detail. Moreover, we propose that phase separation is an evolutionarily conserved and efficient mechanism for cellular compartmentalization which allows for distinct metabolic processes and signaling pathways, and is especially beneficial for the sessile lifestyle of plants to quickly and efficiently respond to the changing environment.

The nuclear pore complex(NPC),the sole exchange channel between the nucleus and cytoplasm,is composed of several subcomplexes,among which the central barrier determines the permeability/selectivity of the NPC to dominate the nucleocytoplasmic trafficking essential for many important signaling events in yeast and *** plant NPC central barrier controls selective transport is a crucial question remaining to be *** this study,we uncovered that phase separation of the central barrier is critical for the permeability and selectivity of plant NPC in the regulation of various biotic *** assays of nup62 mutants and complementary lines showed that NUP62 positively regulates plant defense against Botrytis cinerea,one of the world’s most disastrous plant ***,in vivo imaging and in vitro biochemical evidence revealed that plant NPC central barrier undergoes phase separation to regulate selective nucleocytoplasmic transport of immune regulators,as exemplified by MPK3,essential for plant resistance to ***,genetic analysis demonstrated that NPC phase separation plays an important role in plant defense against fungal and bacterial infection as well as insect *** findings reveal that phase separation of the NPC central barrier serves as an important mechanism to mediate nucleocytoplasmic transport of immune regulators and activate plant defense against a broad range of biotic stresses.

Self-incompatibility(SI)is an intraspecific reproductive barrier widely present in *** SI system with the broadest occurrence in angiosperms is based on an S-RNase linked to a cluster of multiple S-locus F-box(SLF)genes found in the Solanaceae,Plantaginaceae,Rosaceae,and *** studies reveal that non-self S-RNase is degraded by the Skip Cullin F-box(SCF)SLF-mediated ubiquitin–proteasome system in a collaborative manner in Petunia,but how self-RNase functions largely remains ***,we show that S-RNases form S-RNase condensates(SRCs)in the self-pollen tube cytoplasm through phase separation and the disruption of SRC formation breaks SI in self-incompatible Petunia *** further find that the pistil SI factors of a small asparagine-rich protein HT-B and thioredoxin h together with a reduced state of the pollen tube all promote the expansion of SRCs,which then sequester several actin-binding proteins,including the actin polymerization factor PhABRACL,the actin polymerization activity of which is reduced by S-RNase in ***,we find that S-RNase variants lacking condensation ability fail to recruit PhABRACL and are unable to induce actin foci formation required for pollen tube growth *** together,our results demonstrate that phase separation of S-RNase promotes SI response in ***,revealing a new mode of S-RNase action.
