Is peer victimization Associated with Higher Online Trolling among Adolescents?The Mediation of Hostile Attribution Bias and the Moderation of Trait Mindfulness

Background:In recent years,online trolling has garnered significant attention due to its detrimental effects on mental health and social *** current study examined the influence of peer victimization on adolescent online trolling behavior,proposing that hostile attribution bias mediated this relationship and that trait mindfulness moderated both the direct and indirect ***:A total of 833 Chinese adolescents completed the measurements of peer victimization,hostile attribution bias,trait mindfulness,and online *** mediation analysis was performed to examine the relationships between these ***:After controlling for gender and residential address,the study found a significant positive correlation between peer victimization and online trolling,with hostile attribution bias serving as a *** addition,trait mindfulness moderated the direct relationship between peer victimization and online ***,the effect of peer victimization on online trolling was attenuated when adolescents had high levels of trait *** results of the study emphasized the joint role of peer and personal factors in adolescents’online trolling behavior and provide certain strategies for intervening in adolescents’online trolling ***:The results of the study suggest that strategies focusing on peer support and mindfulness training can have a positive impact on reducing online trolling behavior,promoting adolescents’mental health,and their long-term development.

Endogeneity problem(Duncan,Magnuson,& Ludwig,2004) contributes to the controversy regarding the reciprocal relations between peer victimization and depressive *** the individual fixed-effect strategy(IFeS) to overcome the endogeneity problem(Duncan,et al.,2004),the present study aimed to clarify the reciprocal relations between peer victimization and depressive symptoms,and extend to explore the potential of self-compassion in these ***:Participants were 525 Chinese adolescents(43.05%female) recruited when they were in 7 to 9grade in a secondary school in Guangdong,*** aged from 11 to 16 years old(M=12.97 years,SD = 1.02).They completed measures assessing peer victimization(Change et al.,2013),depressive symptoms(Su et al.,2003),and self-compassion(Neff,2003) at two time points over 12 *** included adolescents’ gender and *** data for peer victimization at both waves were log transformed before being used in following analyses(Kine,2011).Next,we used IFeS to test our *** first auto-regressed Wave 2 constructs linearly on Wave 1 constructs to create residual peer victimization(A peer victimization),residual self-compassion(A self-compassion),and residual depressive symptoms(A depressive symptoms).After that,two moderator analyses and two mediator analyses were conducted in which A peer victimization and A depressive symptoms were either the dependent variable or the independent variable,and A self-compassion was the potential moderator or *** analyses were conducted following the recommendations by Cohen,Cohen,West and Aiken(2003) with SPSS(v 19.0).Mediator analyses were conducted with Mplus(v 6.12).Results:peer victimization significantly predicted the change in depressive symptoms,and vice versa(see Table 1).Self-compassion played both the moderating(see Figure 1) and mediating(see Figure 3 a) roles in the path from peer victimization to later depressive symptoms,but not(see Figure 2)(see

Childhood Adversity Phenotypes and Risky Health Behaviors among Chinese Adolescents: Extending the Concept of Adversity

ObjectiveTo present an approach to phenotyping ACEs and explore the association between ACEs and adolescent health risky behaviors based on the social context of *** Totally,5,726 adolescents aged 12-18 years were investigated about their ACEs in the family,peer,school,and personal domains and the occurrence of six types of risky health behaviors(i.e.,smoking,drinking,sexual intercourse,self-harm,and suicidal ideation and attempts).Latent class analysis(LCA)was used to explore the ACE *** Six latent classes of ACEs were identified,including low adversity,school adversity,school adversity and peer victimization,peer victimization,maltreatment and peer victimization,and high adversity,and associated with risky health behaviors in *** physically punished by a teacher,experiencing sexual abuse,and experiencing family trauma most strongly differentiated from the six AcE classes and were correlated with an increased risk for risky adolescent health *** study supports a positive association between ACEs and risky adolescent health *** victimization,school adversity and associated contexts need to be considered in future ACEstudies.
