In this study,three computational approaches for the optimization of a thermal conduction problem are critically *** include a Direct Method(DM),a Genetic Algorithm(GA),and a pattern search(PS)*** optimization aims to minimize the maximum temperature of a hot medium(a medium with uniform heat generation)using a constant amount of high conductivity materials(playing the role of fixed factor constraining the considered problem).The principal goal of this paper is to determine the most efficient and fastest option among the considered *** is shown that the examined three methods approximately lead to the same result in terms of maximum ***,when the number of optimization variables is low,the DM is the fastest *** increment in the complexity of the design and the number of degrees of freedom(DOF)can make the DM *** also show that the PS algorithm becomes faster than the GA as the number of variables for the optimization rises.

Determination of AVR System PID Controller Parameters Using Improved Variants of Reptile search Algorithm and a Novel Objective Function

Two novel improved variants of reptile search algorithm(RSA),RSA with opposition-based learning(ORSA)and hybrid ORSA with pattern search(ORSAPS),are proposed to determine the proportional,integral,and derivative(PID)controller parameters of an automatic voltage regulator(AVR)system using a novel objective function with augmented *** the proposed algorithms,the opposition-based learning technique improves the global search abilities of the original RSA algorithm,while the hybridization with the pattern search(PS)algorithm improves the local search *** algorithms are compared with the original RSA algorithm and have shown to be highly effective algorithms for tuning the PID controller parameters of an AVR system by getting superior *** analyses such as transient,stability,robustness,disturbance rejection,and trajectory tracking are conducted to test the performance of the proposed algorithms,which have validated the good promise of the proposed methods for controller *** performances of the proposed design approaches are also compared with the previously reported PID controller parameter tuning approaches to assess their *** is shown that both proposed approaches obtain excellent and robust results among all compared *** is,with the adjustment of the weight factorα,which is introduced by the proposed objective function,for a system with high bandwitdh(α=1),the proposed ORSAPS-PID system has 2.08%more bandwidth than the proposed ORSA-PID system and 5.1%faster than the fastest algorithm from the *** the other hand,for a system where high phase and gain margins are desired(α=10),the proposed ORSA-PID system has 0.53%more phase margin and 2.18%more gain margin than the proposed ORSAPS-PID system and has 0.71%more phase margin and 2.25%more gain margin than the best performing algorithm from the literature.

On the efficient search of punctured convolutional codes with simulated annealing algorithm

Punctured convolution codes （PCCs） have a lot of applications in modem communication system. The efficient way to search for best PCCs with longer constraint lengths is desired since the complexity of exhaustive search becomes unacceptable. An efficient search method to find PCCs is proposed and simulated. At first, PCCs＇ searching problem is turned into an optimization problem through analysis of PCCs＇ judging criteria, and the inefficiency to use pattern search （PS） for many local optimums is pointed out. The simulated annealing （SA） is adapted to the non-convex optimization problem to find best PCCs with low complexity. Simulation indicates that SA performs very well both in complexity and success ratio, and PCCs with memories varying from 9 to 12 and rates varying from 2/3 to 4/5 searched by SA are presented.

Intelligent Control on Three-Stage Inverted Pendulums

In this paper, a new intelligent control method is introduced, which combines stipulations, optimal control method with knowledge based control. Using nonlinear programming method and expert experience for the complicated nonlinear object, the good control result can be achieved. The effect of this method is shown by a simulation of three stage inverted pendulums.

Least Squares Support Vector Machine Based Real-Time Fault Diagnosis Model for Gas Path Parameters of Aero Engines

Least squares support vector machine （LS-SVM） is applied in gas path fault diagnosis for aero engines. Firstly, the deviation data of engine cruise are analyzed. Then, model selection is conducted using pattern search method. Finally, by decoding aircraft communication addressing and reporting system （ACARS） report, a real-time cruise data set is acquired, and the diagnosis model is adopted to process data. In contrast to the radial basis function （RBF） neutral network, LS-SVM is more suitable for real-time diagnosis of gas turbine engine.

This paper introduces a rail length-limited parallel-coupled cart-pendulums system which is one of the morphs from the inverted pendulum family. A swing-up control strategy based on optimization algorithm（pattern search） instead of manual tuning has been proposed for such kind of system to swing the pendulums up cooperating with the original stabilizing controller. The blockset-view of the system is presented in Matlab/Simulink. For a clearer demonstration of the feasibility of the strategy, a visual validation is implemented through the VRML 2.0 based 3D animation blocks supplied in Simulink. With the use of the optimization tool along with the dynamic simulation results obtained in Matlab/Simulink, proper swing-up signal parameters will be derived for the system. The proposed swing-up strategy is proved effective under the visual demonstration and the diagram analyses about the simulation results.
