For the moment, commercial parallel computer systems with distributed memory architecture are usually provided with parallel FORTRAN or parallel C compliers, which are just traditional sequential FORTRAN or C compilers expanded with communication statements. Programmers suffer from writing parallel programs with communication *** Shared Variable Oriented parallel Precompiler (SVOPP) proposed in this paper can automatically generate appropriate communication statements based on shared variables for SPMD (Single Program Multiple Data) computa-tion model and greatly ease the parallel programming with high communication efficiency. The core function of parallel C precompi1er has been successfully veri-fied on a transputer-based parallel computer. Its prominent performance shows that SVOPP is probably a break-through in parallel programming technique.

A parallel numerical model was established for solving the Navier-Stokesequations by using Sequential Regu-larization Method (SRM). The computational domain is decomposedinto P sub-domains in which the difference formulae were obtained from the governing equations. Thedata were exchannged at the virtual boundary of sub-domains in parallel computation. Theclose-channel cavity flow was solved by the implicit method. The driven square cavity flow wassolved by the explicit method. The results were compared well those given by Ghia.

We consider a distributed unicasting algorithm for hypercubes with faulty nodes (including disconnected hypercubes) using the safety level concept. The safety level of each node in an n-dimensional hypercube is an approximated measure of the number and distribution of faulty nodes in the neighborhood and it can be easily calculated through n - 1 rounds of information exchange among neighboring nodes. Optimal unicasting between two nodes is guaranteed if the safety level of the source node is no less than the Hamming distance between the source and the destination. The feasibility of an optimal or suboptimal unicasting can be easily determined at the source node by comparing its safety level, together with its neighbors' safety levels, with the Hamming distance between the source and the destination. The proposed scheme is also the first attempt to address the unicasting problem in disconnected hypercubes. The safety level concept is also extended to be used in hypercubes with both faulty nodes and links and in generalized hypercubes.

This paper first provides a brief introduction to a numerical reservoir simulation and a parallel numerical reservoir integrated simulation platform developed by RDCPS (Research & Development Center for parallel Software, Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences), which includes Pre-Processing, Simulator (for a Three-Dimensional & Three-Phase Black-Oil models), Post Processing, seamlessly integrated with parallel computers. We then present key technologies of the simulator, such as nonlinear and linear solvers, communications among processors, parallel I/O, etc., and corresponding content. Finally, some results of the platform to solve one million grid blocks cases from Chinese oil fields are given in the paper, which can show that the simulator has a very robust portability, high-speed for deadline and good scalability for the tested cases. As one of the application softwares, its objective is always focusing on satisfying deadlines of oil industry. Now, for one million grid blocks" casewith 20 ~ 30 year-production, its elapsed time with 16 processors is less than 12 hours on parallel computers based on Myrinet or QsNet, namely to submit a case just before off-duty and get its result just before on-duty . A decreasing line of elapsed time is given for a case with one million grid blocks. The developing trace of the simulator along with parallel computers can be also inferred from the line.

An object-oriented approach is taken to the problem of formulating portable, easy-to-modify PDE solvers for realistic problems in three space dimensions. The resulting software library, Cogito, contains tools for writing programs to be executed on MIMD computers with distributed memory. Difference methods on composite, structured grids are supported. Most of the Cogito classes have been implemented in Fortran 77, in such a way that the object-oriented design is visible. With respect to parallel performance, these tools yield code that is comparable to parallel solvers written in plain Fortran 77. The resulting programs are can be executed without modification on a large number of multicomputer platforms, and also on serial computers. The uppermost level of abstraction in Cogito concerns the problem of decoupling the numerical method from the PDE problem. The validity of these tools has been preliminarily demonstrated with a C++ implementation for one-dimensional problems.
