The rapid global spread of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has promoted concern over human pathogens and their significant threats to public health *** monitoring and control of human pathogens in public sanitation and health facilities are of great *** sludge is an inevitable byproduct of sewage that contains human and animal feces in wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs).It is an important sink of different pollutants and pathogens,and the proper treatment and disposal of sludge are important to minimize potential risks to the environment and public ***,there is a lack of comprehensive analysis of the diversity,exposure risks,assessment methods and inactivation techniques of pathogenic microorganisms in *** on this consideration,this review summarizes the control performance of pathogenic microorganisms such as enterovirus,Salmonella spp.,and Escherichia coli by different sludge treatment technologies,including composting,anaerobic digestion,aerobic digestion,and microwave irradiation,and the mechanisms of pathogenic microorganism inactivation in sludge treatment processes are ***,this study reviews the diversity,detection methods,and exposure risks of pathogenic microorganisms in *** review advances the quantitative assessment of pathogenic microorganism risks involved in sludge reuse and is practically valuable to optimize the treatment and disposal of sludge for pathogenic microorganism control.

The inactivation of bacteriophages MS2 and PhiX174 by nanoscale zero-valent iron:Resistance difference and mechanisms

pathogenic enteric viruses pose a significant risk to human *** zero-valent iron(nZVI),a novel material for environmental remediation,has been shown to be a promising tool for ***,the existing research has typically utilized MS2 or f2 bacteriophages to investigate the antimicrobial properties of nZVI,and the resistance difference between bacteriophages,which is important for the application of disinfection technologies,is not yet ***,MS2 and PhiX174 containing RNA and DNA,respectively,were used as model viruses to investigate the resistances to *** bacteriophage inactivation mechanisms were also discussed using TEM images,protein,and nucleic acid *** results showed that an initial concentration of 10^(6)PFU/mL of MS2 could be completely inactivated within 240 min by 40 mg/L nZVI at pH 7,whereas the complete inactivation of PhiX174 could not be achieved by extending the reaction time,increasing the nZVI dosage,or changing the dosing *** indicates that the resistance of phage PhiX174 to nZVI was much stronger than that of *** images indicated that the viral particle shape was distorted,and the capsid shell was ruptured by *** damage to viral surface proteins in both phages was examined by three-dimensional fluorescence spectrum and sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE).However,the nucleic acid analysis demonstrated that the nucleic acid of MS2,but not PhiX174,was *** indicated that bacteriophage inactivation was mainly attributed to the damage of nucleic acids.

Overexpression of AHL20 Negatively Regulates Defenses in Arabidopsis

Plants are equipped to recognize invading pathogenic microbes and activate innate immune responses by sensing pathogen-associated molecular patterns （PAMPs）. PAMP-triggered immunity （PTI） is critical for plant resistance to potential pathogens. Although the mechanism by which PTI is activated has been intensively studied, exactly how plants prevent unregulated immune responses is less well understood. Here we provide evidence that AHL20, an AT-hook containing DNA-binding protein, negatively regulates PTI. Overexpression of AHL20 as a stable transgene suppressed PAMP-induced NH01 and FRK1 expression in Arabidopsis plants. Similarly, transient expression of the closely related family members AHL19, AHL15, and AHL27 in protoplasts also blocked PAMP-induced gene expression. The AHL20 overexpression plants displayed greater susceptibility to virulent Pseudomonas syringae bacteria. These results indicate that AHL proteins play an important role in plant immunity.

Characterization of a Novel Plantain Asr Gene,MpAsr,that is Regulated in Response to Infection of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense and Abiotic Stresses

Asr （abscisic acid, stress, ripening induced） genes are typically upregulated by a wide range of factors, including drought, cold, salt, abscisic acid （ABA） and injury; in addition to plant responses to developmental and environmental signals. We isolated an Asr gene, MpAsr, from a suppression subtractive hybridization （SSH） cDNA library of cold induced plantain （Musa paradisiaca） leaves. MpAsr expression was upregulated in Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense infected plantain leaves, peels and roots, suggesting that MpAsr plays a role in plantain pathogen response. In addition, a 581-bp putative promoter region of MpAsr was isolated via genome walking and cis-elements involved in abioUc stress and pathogen-related responses were detected in this same region. Furthermore, the MpAsr promoter demonstrated positive activity and inducibility in tobacco under F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense infection and ABA, cold, dehydration and high salt concentration treatments. Interestingly, transgenic Arabidopsis plants overexpressing MpAsr exhibited higher drought tolerance, but showed no significant decreased sensitivity to F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense. These results suggest that MpAsr might be involved in plant responses to both abiotic stress and pathogen attack.
